Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
it looks complicated but its really very easy to use. It takes skill to make things sound good though.
By the way the one in the picture is a smaller version I think.

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Yeah, Leach does sound mixing. I don't but I've done some minor playing around with soundboards before in school for plays and whatnot
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Sound Engineering is something that experience is everything. I have 5 years Experience and 2 years on the Soundcraft GB8. I am still learning, live band mixing there are soo many tricks involved.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Yeah, I can see live being somewhat complicated. Like I said, what I did was simple, nothing fancy, I don't even know the tech involved, I just moved the appropriate sliders at the appropriate times (there was even a lighting board which was cool)
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
yea Lighting is also fun. I designed the lighting rig for my old school and also was head of lighting production for a conference this year. I shall admit it I am a production technician. That is my major skill, if only I could use it in your projects Darkwing.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I need software for that. I am sure I can find stuff to do that. I usually mix stereo, Live sound is not given in the surround number system. since the systems are very complex. the one I use is a 3 cluster Center, Left, Right mix with Subs. but mixing something into 5.1 shouldn't be to hard to do.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Yeah, just as a quick briefer:
Center: Dialogue
Front Left/Right: Primary Sound effects (music is included here I believe)
Back Left/Right: Background/ambient sounds (music is also included here)
Subwoofer: Pretty obvious...

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Yea very possible with digital mixing. two stereo channels and a 3rd mono channel and then put them together and encode them.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I have a video editing program that does it, however, I never could and I think it won't work on that program unless I have 5.1 on my PC. Besides, it wasn't a very good sound mixing program to begin with
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I know how I would generate it in a Live sound scenario but that is not that helpful. I shall look for a mixing program to build a sound track in 5.1 if you want.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
That'd be cool. This would also mean I have to get to a point where sound becomes needed (meaning post and I'm still stuck on pre...yeah, back to work I know)
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Well when you need it I shall get it and work on it. Sound is one of my favorite things to do.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Yeah, hopefully in the next few months there will be something and having a legit sound mixer would be cool. Even if I don't go 5.1, having someone to play with proper balances and whatnot would be cool
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
yea well I love doing that kinda thing. so will definitely be happy to help.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I looked for mixing programs and the best one is for mac! damn you apple!

Macs are a waste of money the os costs £30 but the computer with basic components costs £1,700 why not but a better computer and install the os?

rrps700 wrote:Macs are a waste of money the os costs £30 but the computer with basic components costs £1,700 why not but a better computer and install the os?
Actually, macs aren't exactly a waste of money...
As in... would you like more some Nike shoes are those shoes from a gypsy? Or Berg boots? Or would you like to buy some ugly, cheap painting, or a good looking one?
Macs are for people who appreciate more the Looks than anything else... Macs are above everything else in aesthetics...
Of course, the lightweight system, and the high end art related programs make it more attractive to designers, movie editors and website designers...
And there is off course, a Mac culture, cause the ones who buy apple stuff are usually faithful to them in a way that non-Mac pc's don't have...
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
But you still could Hackintosh or use a Mac skin for linux. It's all about everyone having their own choice. if they choose Macs without knowing the alternatives, fine.
@rrps: £1,700 is not the basic model...

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
The basic model is 700€... But that's a MacMini...
But again... Macs are for graphic design and stuff like that... and those stuff usually happen to appear on companies were they can't use hacks and similar, or they can get large fines...

Does linux also have a skin for the physical appearance of the computer itself?
And I could go and talk about the benefits of a Mac and defend it. But I'm tired of this shitty discussion. I'm going to put OS debates in the same topic as religion cause I'm tired of some retard coming along bitching about Macs when they probably have not had any extensive use with them and most of them lie when they retaliate and say they did and hated them and blah blah blah. So I will sum it up.
Windows: For losers and average day folk who do word processing and video games
Linux: For people more tech savvy and care more about the operation of stuff and don't care that there isn't much compatibility with anything, cause they make their own software
Mac: For people of more eclectic/artsy tastes. Massively good at multi-tasking and handling heavyweight programs without using much of the resources. For designers, film makers and animators and media oriented people
The OS discussion is now over

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I use windows mainly for the reason that for me compatibility is very important.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I don't know how many times we've summed up the OS debate. I agree with DW. This is done. Update the notice sticky.

Two things:
First, if people claim that they tried a Mac and didn't liked they're dumb***es! Or probably liars... And if they use that as an argument because some OS is better than other they're even more dumb! Also, it's a question of opinnion, so, not open to debate... It's only open to share, nothing more... It's like asking which programing language is better... The best is the one you work in better...
Second, I believe you're wrong about the losers part and right about the average day folks... But you're also forgetting corporate businesses that need a platform that doesn't complicate much and does come with heavy support if you're a company...
And this is mine opinion about this...
@DJ... More times than hours of the year...

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
And don't forget the gamers who have absolutely no use for mac, and can just as well use Windows 7, which is stable and supports almost every single game out there. You don't have to be a dumbass to not like mac, or find it useless.

Actually, Steam disagrees... And there are a lot of quality hardware in the newer macs, expecially the iMacs... I checked their equipment, it's good enough for most games...
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
its more a problem with code. Also unfortunately PC gamers are being held back by consoles.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Apple never got much into the high-end gaming thing... Maybe from now on Macs will be able to have better ability into that... But I know examples of good games like EVE Online and StarCraft 2 that have great performance on iMacs and MacBooks with a decent graphic card...
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
TBH there is no debate macs are good for something while windows is good for others, windows is better as an average day/business platform, while mac well i dont use mac much so i dont know what its for apart from ipods there awsome

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Lets face it... Windows is only "better" because of games... Cause you can have Microsoft Office for Macs for the same price as a Windows version (roughly), cause almost all OSes, except focused service ones, are good for everyday stuff...
Macs are, as DW said up there... For people who love its looks, or for artists, since the best tools are made for Machintosh...

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
yea. I am one who will always be tinkering with my hardware. (kinda comes with being a techy and a electronics tech) so non apple hardware is what I use.

Amen to that, Lee. Some computers are good for some things, other computers are good for others.
And on that note...I FINALLY have a laptop!!!!!
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Out of curiosity, what part of no more OS discussion did people not get? I'm going to issue a formal warning to the next person who brings it up. You can talk about computers and stuff, but as I said, no more OS discussions
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I was talking about the hardware. I have found apple gear to be impossible to tinker with.

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
I know but its pretty sad. you could up the power on them so easy.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Well, you can replace and upgrade Mac parts, it's just that they utilize very small pieces allowing for their compact design.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
yea and there is the problem I have, they are too restrictive in their design for my taste.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
It's like upgrading a laptop
I've always been fine (for the most part) with the Macs as they are...however, come to think of it, the industry version (the tower macs) are probably upgradeable thus why they're industry versions.

Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
yea the towers are nice, my laptop is big enough to easily upgrade and that is why I like it.
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
If I had the money to blow, I'd build a custom PC that could handle my video and animation stuff easily
Re: New General Chat Mark Infinity
Jtull wrote:yea you could spend 10K easy on that.
Well, nowadays, with 1000 € you can build a decent computer that could handle anything, but games from 2016 fairly easilly. But I still believe that, due to this thing of more powerful processors and more RAM, programers are starting to being sloppy with their codes.
