The U.S just had a bill pass that helped provide healthcare to a lot of people that were unable at first to get it.

yet another time i realise how lucky i am to be in australia, here everyone gets free healthcare if the family's yearly pay is not enough to get private health insurance which is getting expensive over here, so horaay for australian healthcare! if the american one is for under 18s only there'd still be a lot of people that couldn't afford medicine, am i right?

Yes Obama is signing that bill right now. There is some internet debate over whether he should do it. I mean it's a lot of money...but is it worth it?

There's also talk about whether Obama is legit. I know he talks cool and says all these reasurring, diplomatic things but is he just talking or is he also going to put that talk to action?

He just signed one of the most historic bill since a few presidencies, and succeeded where 7 other presidents since 1920 have failed. I mean, come on, he's not santachrist. He can't just snap his fingers and make all his election promises come true in an instant.

And yes, i would say saving thousands of lives a year and improving the lives of a few million people is worth the money.

I hope the government doesn't cave in and censor the caricatures, and that lars vilks or some other artist makes another caricature, just to give them the middle finger and show them that we're not giving up our freedom any time soon.

On a happier note, the first LHC (Large Hadron Collider) collisions happened today. The LHC has had several setbacks and delays, but this should get the experiments running. This is a major event in the history of particle physics, and should be a leap forward for science. Nasa has discovered that one of saturn's moons was actually Pac-Man all along! A heat map of the moon Mimas has revealed that it's not the death star as they had feared, but it's actually pac man in disguise as the deathstar which in turn is disguised as a moon.

Mimas is also known for being the smallest known astronomical object known to man that is believed to be round in shape due to it's own gravitation.


You can clearly see here that it's actually pac man eating a dot, and not the death star

Vote Lib Dem and you'll be used as the cheaper alternative to trident.

Ugh trident. Fighting nukes with nukes doesn't exactly sound smart to me. That and it wont be up for around 4 years.

Hm thats a tough one. Either getting the people I know and others out of Iraq and eliminate the chances of me being sent in, or making the trident system be scrapped which could either make other countries decide to scrap their nukes at seeing our willingness or view us as weak and increase the chances if us being attacked.
I'd go for the first. Avoid a bigger war by quiting a smaller one.

hmm it's bit different in the Qur'an, it says the exact date is known only to god but there will be signs (like the ones i mentioned above) which signal that it is near, some people say the signs are already comeing to pass... like one about people fighting over a mountain of gold in the of babylon (iraq)

same with the bible. The Bible states that only God knows the time, but there are a bunch of signs outlined in the book of Revelation. Many say that like you the signs are here, except interestingly, these signs have always been around

The thing they fear most is death. Most of them will do almost anything to delay it. That's the root reason for the 2012 freakout.

I actually can't blame them because of that. It's actually quite understandable.

For example, a guy comes up to you and says that your house is going to blow up next week. Another guy comes up to you and says that it won't happen, and that the first guy has been wrong before. 2 days later a dozen other guys come to you and tell you the same thing. Yes, you feel better. But, part of you still believes that first guy, because of your instinctive fear of imminent death.

The same goes for the 2012 thing, but on a larger scale. Most people who take interest in it, from what I've been able to tell, are in that type of mind I illustrated. The real fanatics make up a very small minority. (Naturally in this case)

i was interested in the mayan history in the documentary i watched one time. I don't believe this 2012 crap for a moment and even if it were true, I don't think I'd care much. Life would be very much easier.

well they'll be proved wrong when the time comes... hey, has anyone else noticed that the closer we get to 2012 the 2012 themed things we are seeing? like the movie 2012 and the ending of assassin's creed 2 where desmond is indirectly told about a catastrophe happening on the december 21st of that year (which just so happens to be 2012)

actually, there's a lot of evidence to say that the end of the mayan calendar doesn't mean the end of earth, but a new epoch, perhaps a return to the golden age (in a couple hundred years that is)

To be honest, I thought the Mayans had stopped their calendar at 2012 because there was no point plotting the calendar more than 400 years in advance.

I believe it's the Mayans mapped out each epoch, but seeing as they aren't around anymore, they didn't do the next one
