This is a topic for debates that are more contentious than for random chat.
So what do you think about the Iraq war?

its a waste of time.it all started because George bush wanted their oil, and he thought that all arabs are terrorists.

Re: Debate topic
well, you don't KNOW that for sure...
but anyway, to be serious. Bush was wrong.
A. no profitable oil in Iraq. most of it was burnt with operation desert storm
B. Osama Bin laden didn't like saddam, and has never been in the country.

Re: Debate topic
And that's the thing; Saddam was mainly pro-West, and we were the ones to install him into his position of power. Then we, being the self-righteous pompous capitalists that we are (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you!) came in to look for "weapons of mass destruction" which quickly changed to "liberating the Iraqi people." What God-given right is it to us that we interfere? Yes, America may be the most powerful country in the world (may change in about 10 years or more) but that is no excuse for us to police the world! [/end rant]
Anyways, just my views on the thing. But we've gotten so deep into this mess that we can't really pull out of Iraq without consequences, and all of the work done in Iraq will be undone, just like in South Vietnam which was taken over by the North after America left.
I feel talkative. Meh.

Re: Debate topic
and here's where my conservative views and my history lessons come in handy:
I agree whole heartedly about the oil thing. the WOMD was just an excuse, but in the case of Saddam, he had already lead terrorist attacks on the states that were ignored by Nixon. The unfortunate thing for bush's popularity, was that he was left with a world that had gone mildly ignored, and then suddenly, bma, there's 9/11. that really made us realize that sure, the cold war is over, but the rest of the world still hates our democratic views and wants to get rid of us. And that's what happens when you get extremist groups running a country, with dictators like Saddam running the show. Now I'm not 100 percent advocating this war, as it's having its repercussions (look what's happening to the stock market) but it needs to be done. and i don't even believe really in doing it for "national security" but more becasue in a lot of counrties, the reason extremist groups are running countries, is becasue we gave them weapons to fight out the soviets, then just left those countries in dishevveled states. it is the responsibility of all of organizations like NATO and the UN to try and change the situation like we're trying in afghanistan, and I hope we're there as long as it takes!

Re: Debate topic
Ok. Here is my veiws:
George Bush, being the stupid idiot he is, made up a reason to mess up our economy. He said he wanted to find "WMD's" which turned into "Freedom of Iraq". HOW DID WE GET HERE FROM BIN LADEN??? He should of just kept scouring the mountain range Bin Laden is hiding under and BLOW IT UP. I can understand retalliation from the Twin Towers bombing, which I was there for unfortunately, but going into a 4 year war??? What was going through his mind?

- Spoiler:
- I was visiting a cousin in New York City. I walked out of where he lived, and saw the first plane hit. I saw the primary explosion, then the second plane hit. I stood awe struck, and walked back into the apartment.

it's already changing. Bush, Iraq, Afghanistan, Oil, Capitalism going to far, they have taken their toll...Alkanosis wrote:Yes, America may be the most powerful country in the world (may change in about 10 years or more)[/end rant]
the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have only little influence on that. the economical crisis is caused by oil issues, bad leadership on Bush' part, and over-eager banks giving out loans at ludicrous risks are the axe that's felling the tree. and mind you, it will come down HARD.Darkwing wrote:Now I'm not 100 percent advocating this war, as it's having its repercussions (look what's happening to the stock market)
long live capitalism!
trust me. that Bin Laden guy is smart. he probably hasn't even EVER been there. you're a rich, much beloved Arabian man. WHY THE **** would you go sitting in a bunch of caves when almost every Islamic country would just love to have you as your guest?Dread151 wrote:He should of just kept scouring the mountain range Bin Laden is hiding under and BLOW IT UP.

Re: Debate topic
Bin Laden could be dead for all we know. he hasn't appeared on video for a long time, only a few tapes of bad quality.
And to be honest, I think Bush Snr. did a much better job of attacking Iraq-got almost everyone on his side and ready to fight with him before going in. The only downside was that they didn't keep going, smash through Iraq, and kick Saddam off. There's the UN guidelines for you.

I beg to differ. America still owns 30% of the total world economy. Less than the EU in its entirety, but still a respectable percentage.

Well, in China's case, there really wasn't anywhere to go except up. You have to thank Mao Zedong for making the early PRC economy so bad that Deng Xiaoping could reverse it by simply doing the opposite of whatever Mao was doing.
