Episode IV

Message posted...: May 24th, 2011, 5:59 pm

Three pillars had fallen. Most of existence
destroyed. Hope..lost. Strength..lost. Courage..lost. All that
remained was despair. Despair and the wish, the wish that it could all
just end now, so that the pain might go away, that the suffering, the
struggle, could all wash away. Sitting there, alone. The emptiness,
the only companion. What did it all matter anyways? They were done
for, everything was done for. This was the end. The end of light, the
end of dark. Such emptiness, a void, crying out, longing to be heard,
to be loved and most of all... to love.
--------------
The ship
lay drifting in space. No power, no life. It's once gleaming and shiny
hull, scarred, burnt. The Darkwing appeared to be in a graveyard of
sorts. Wrecked hulls, debris, asteroids, all floating, gathered in one
central location, as if to remind everyone that life was lost, that the
Solari were coming.

The interior wasn't much better. The once
lit halls were now dark and foreboding, the odd shower of sparks falling
from conduits. Cables and metal were split open creating a hazardous
environment for the survivors. Jean and Breeana lay unconscious in one
of the darkened corridors, debris having fallen everywhere but where
they lay.
The bridge wasn't much better. Dark scorches lined the
walls from a massive explosion near the tactical section. Rose's body
lay twisted and bloody on the floor, a thick metal beam laying next to
him, having narrowly missed him in its fall. Skeeve and Rivers were no
where to be seen, neither was Melly.
A console was beeping
monotonously, spewing out a warning in engineering. Critical warp core
failure eminent. It's warning however unnoticed by the unconscious
Johnson, thrown against the ground, engineering in a complete mess.
------------
Rivers'
eyes slowly cracked open. He quickly closed them, his eyes not having
adjusted to the light. Opening them again, this time more slowly, he
manged to adapt. Sitting up he looked around. He was on some sort of
planet, one that was apparently once inhabited. Around him was a
desolate looking landscape though. Buildings, twisted and destroyed, as
if thrown there carelessly populated the majority of the scene. There
appeared to be no plant life and the ground was grey and flat. The sky
lacked colour and all that he could see where the stars. And it was
cold, very very cold. Struggling to his feet he looked at the scene,
taking it all in. Quickly deciding on a plan of action, he set out,
heading for the building that appeared the most intact.
--------------
Simon
simply sat there, the waves washing around him, holding Melanie in his
arms. So much sacrifice and for what gain? He was tired, of
everything. He had seen too much...lost too much. The little one just
sat there, watching him, not saying anything, at least not aloud, her
eyes said enough.
Finally, Simon mustered the courage and the heart to speak. "Why?" he asked.

The child sat trembling. A voice broke into her reverie, and steel grey eyes focused sharply in response.

It
was not so difficult to see this Simon for who he was. His posture, his
care, the fullness of his voice. This was the Simon she had come to
know. The tears nearly fell then, but she fought them back with all her
strength. The image of his and the woman's appearance just as she
thought all hope was lost flashed before her, impressing her emotions
further across her little face.

She had felt the pull,
recognized it - had nearly leapt for joy as the scenes changed.
Salvation had come in the form of the two people she knew best. And her
skelter feelings against the Simon that had near-accosted her had been
justified.

Materializing on this forsaken beach had proved a new
reality for the young one, however. She would not wake up for several
excruciating minutes, would not respond to the tiny fingers that tried
to help. Simon had been no where in sight to call to for help - not
right away. And when the woman had finally stirred, young heart had
dropped below the wet sand she sat on. The motion was weak, the end so
inevitably clear in the aged eyes. Water washed over the women
unnoticed, leaving dangerous chills in their wake nonetheless.

Then
he had appeared, once again the comforting beacon. But even Simon could
not relieve the grief in her heart, even as she saw it echoed on his
face. For a moment, this had confused her, but her inward thoughts did
not allow her to dwell on the obvious.

The child could not see
the depths of the question presented. Her voice carried a thickness, a
weight, something beyond her years.

"I do not know." A shaky sigh
was let out slowly. She reached out and fingered a silver curl in her
hand, eyes on the face of the lifeless woman he held. A little bit of
the depth to the question reached through the fog and stirred small mind
slightly. "She... I was... to wait for you. And you came, just as I was
told. You are not as the others believe - she did not believe the same
as they."

A trembling bottom lip was bit down on to still it.
Steel grey eyes looked into his, deeper than ordinary for a child of six
or seven years.

"You should not call me Melly anymore. I am
Dawn. I did not tell you before because... because it sounded like
Melanie, and I liked that."

Jean begun to wake up… Her sight was blurred,
but she could distinguish the body of Breanna a few meters away from
her… The lights flickering a lot, and a strong noise on her hears was
perturbing her… She recovered a little…

“Breanna! Can you hear me?” She yelled, but with no response.

Jean grabbed Breanna and slowly took her to the sick bay… Or at least what was remained of it…

“You’re safe here… Now to the bridge…”

Johnson awoke some time later to see a scarred
Engineering. What in the world happened? The last thing Johnson
remembered was engaging the Reality Drive, and heading for the bridge.
So how did he get back in engineering? Well, there was nothing of use in
Engineering, and it would probably take months to get it back in order,
so he decided to go to the bridge to see if anyone remembered what
happened. He headed for the turbolift...

"Aw crap, turbolift is down. Now i gotta get there on foot"

This was not expected in the least. Rivers had
somehow managed to misplace himself on this barren, post-apocalyptic
rock. There was a wind to stir up dust occasionally, but it was
otherwise still. The eeriness of it was getting to Rivers a little as
he headed for the buildings.
Finally arriving at the most intact
building within eyesight, Rivers climbed over some of the fallen rocks.
There were metal spires and screws twisted and poking out in menacing
ways. One could easily kill themselves in this debris and no one would
ever know. This planet had obviously not seen power in a long time and
Rivers could find no source of creating power. Making his way up a
level in the slanted building, Rivers walked to a massive hole in the
wall. Taking in a deep breath, he gazed out at the destroyed landscape.
This place seemed more like a junk yard than a former city, with
buildings and things just dropped from the sky. It truly was a lonely
sight.

Skeeve found himself falling. He fell into
space, and then he fell through it, past planets, past stars and with
out oxygen. He even fell through planets, but never hit the ground and
couldn't grab anything. He had to find his focus and as soon as he did
with the task of stopping. As he did he was falling through a tall
building. He could tell he was coming into reality and if he was too
late he would die. It had to be quick and suddenly it was. He came
through just inches above the floor of the 8th story. Where ever it was,
it was a weak spot and Skeeve crashed threw and landed on the 7th
floor. Skeeve spoke "damn it" with some pain.

He stood up to look around.

Rivers had been lost in his own musings when a
crashing sound in the distance caught his attention. Craning his neck
out as far as it would go, Rivers looked around at the surrounding
buildings. He was about to give up when a plume of dust caught his eye.
It came from the top of one of the nearby buildings, something had
obviously just crashed there and he didn't exactly remember seeing
anything fall.
Jumping over some debris, Rivers quickly made his way
out of the building and took off running for the one with the now
dissipated plume of dust.

Rivers skidded to a stop. It was hard to make
out who or what was there, but Rivers knew, knew of only one person that
could hide so easily in plain site. Standing there, he watched Skeeve,
knowing that Skeeve knew who he was.

"Assassin," Rivers yelled out, his voice covering the large gap between them, "where are you from?!"

Rivers
knew where this was going to lead, there was only one possible place
this could go. But he needed an answer first. People didn't just fall
from no where in the middle of a desolate and apocalyptic world.

Rivers watched Skeeve, distrust in his eye.

"You
didn't answer my question," Rivers said, finding a large shard of
metal. Wrapping his fingers around it, he gave it a good pull, tearing
it from the concrete it had previously been stuck in.

"I asked
where you were from and this time, I want the real answer!" Rivers said
menacingly, pacing slowly in large circle, Skeeve doing the same on the
other side, each one ready to strike at the other.

"If you must know, I came from the OZ. A place
where you will never be able to go. Unfortunately, I must not hurt you,
im on a mission. Its too complex to explain." Skeeve said calmly. He
proceeded to turn away from Rivers.

Re: Episode IV

Rivers paused at Skeeve's response, somewhat
surprised. The OZ, was it possible? If it was, then Rivers was in
danger, much danger. Skeeve turned away from Rivers. Taking his
chance, Rivers hurled the metal object at Skeeve's back. Skeeve was
quick and was able to stop the object (with considerable discomfort)
before it embedded itself into him, but it was still to late. Rivers
lunged at Skeeve, making short the distance very rapidly and Skeeve
could not evade his next attack.

"I cannot have the OZ
interfering in this Librian!" Rivers grabbed Skeeve's forehead.
Staring deep down into Skeeve's eyes, Rivers peered into his soul, into
his existence. Smiling as if enjoying this, Rivers spoke, "goodbye
Librian."

With that, white energy seemed to form around Rivers'
hand as Skeeve yelled out in agony. As the energy accumulated, there
was a sudden pulse as Skeeve's body collapsed in itself, being thrown
back into non-existence. Rivers lowered his hand as all that remained
was little swirling dust and the emptiness of this apocalyptic world.
The power, at his own fingertips, it was good.

Looking up at the sky, Rivers grinned again, "I'm coming," he said aloud.

Simon
sat and watched as Dawn played in the sand a little, trying to keep
herself occupied. Yet he knew, it wasn't working. There were bigger
things at stake and they were trapped here, on a beach. Simon rubbed
his temples, trying to clear his thoughts, but to no avail. The water
seemed so mesmerizing, so enticing, as if he should walk out into it and
let it take him away.
Simon was suddenly jolted from his daydream as Dawn came and sat down next to him, wet and full of sand.
((Take that whichever way you want BTW))

-----------

"Hello....?
Can....read....this.....riv.....come in.... is.... si...." the
message was garbled and full of static, yet it was coming through the
speakers on the entire ship. The Darkwing was still dark, damaged and
the crew disoriented, yet the message snapped them back to life.

Still unnoticed, the computer was counting down, critical warp core failure in three minutes.

Johnson was still trying to get to the bridge.
He was about halfway between the bridge and engineering when he heard
this message:

"Hello....? Can....read....this.....riv.....come in.... is.... si...."

Johnson ran to the nearest computer, hoping it was online. It somehow was, playing this message.

"Computer! trace that signal!"
"Unable to trace. Out of range."

Out
of range? but then how would the message come in? Bleh, this computer
was worthless. Might as well phaser it and fix it with the rest of the
ship. Plus, it would give him something to take his anger out on. He
drew his phaser and was just about to fire when he saw that the computer
was counting down to something. Intrigued, he looked closer.

"critical warp core failure in 2 minutes 30 seconds..."

Suddenly the computer switched off, apparently dead. Johnson took out his communicator...

"Can
anyone hear me? This is Tim Johnson. A computer just said critical warp
core failure in 2 and a half minutes. I'm too far from engineering to
do anything, if someone is near, please try to solve this... or else
abandon ship!! Can anyone hear me? If so, respond..."

When Simon had failed to respond to her words,
Dawn had become downcast. She understood, probably more than a typical
seven year old should. But his silence felt cold to her.

Biting
her lip, she turned away. She could no longer bear to see the woman in
his arms. Silent tears wet her face as she moved off to stand in the
ankle deep water. The pull of the tide amazed her. It's song was oddly
soothing, it's dancing light captivating. The strength that pulled on
small feet, taking inches of sand out from under them, more inviting
with each lap.

Dawn watched the waves grow, unmoving from her
spot. They seemed to respond to something as the pull on her feet
strengthened, the waves reaching higher with each pass. The child looked
back to where Simon sat absently, watching the waves with unseeing
eyes.

And then she understood, as a wave caught her about the
waste. As she turned back to the ocean, the waves suddenly could not
come any closer. They reared with personified rage, gaining in height,
the pull strengthening. But the way of this universe could not be broken
- the choice that was to be made would be just that, a choice. Even the
magnificence of the ocean could not break the rules.

But they
could be mischievous, as nature can be. As though to have the last word,
a nicely sized, perfectly curved crest washed over Dawn, knocking her
flat and leaving her in the wet sand.

Miffed and no less
miserable, the child returned to Simon's side. She watched him,
deliberately keeping young steel eyes off the body he still held. She
watched him blink at her. A small flame of satisfaction lit in her eye,
albeit dulled by the circumstances.

"What is on your mind?" She asked quietly, voice still trembling.

Rivers
threw down the transmitter. Between the lack of power, the chances of
anybody being nearby and something interfering with the damned signal,
he was very unlikely to be heard. He sat there a moment, thinking.
This was her fault. Somehow in her last moments, she had managed to
bump him here, to this forsaken land. Solari, ever so pesky, especially
rogue ones who think they knew everything about everything.
That's
when his eye caught movement on the ground. Most of this planet was
dark enough as it was, but he was sure he saw something move. Peering
out of the hole in the wall, Rivers watched from several stories up as
someone came walking, aimlessly towards the ruined buildings.
((Cue Vadek))
--------
Simon
finally stood, his musings coming to an end. Dawn looked up at him,
startled by his sudden movement. Ignoring Dawn's question, he took a
breath, he watched, inspected the two clashing scenes. Sand on one
side, water on the other. This had to mean something.
"Did you know her well?" Simon finally asked Dawn, breaking his long silence.

((Right,

Tim
heard Jean's voice over the crackling comm unit on the Darkwing.
Breathing a sigh of relief he had to quickly snap back into gear.

"Get
into engineering now and go to the primary computer, it should be the
one right in the center of the room! And be quick about it!" Tim
replied, his body tense with anxiety.
------
Breanna sat up
suddenly, coughing violently. She appeared to be injured, but no where
nearly as badly as she had been before. Checking herself over, it
appeared to only be cuts and bruises for the most part. It took her
eyes a moment to adjust to the dim lighting of the damaged ship that she
now found herself in.
------
Temple felt as if he'd been
wandering for years and when his mind had finally and completely drifted
off, he heard a sudden noise in the distance. The sound of rocks or
debris falling from a height. Becoming alert all of a sudden, he slowed
his pace, taking some cover in the larger pieces of debris, not wanting
to give away his position to whatever was there.
-------
Simon
listened to Dawn's response, mulling it over carefully in his head. For
some reason, things suddenly felt different. More of a realization
that he was different perhaps. Watching the water intently for a few
moments, a thought started to formulate in his head. Spinning around,
he looked at the sand which seemed to stretch as far and endlessly as
the water did on the other side.
"Why does this feel so familiar?" he mumbled to himself, trying to figure something out.
------
Rivers
wished he had a good old fashioned plasma pistol right about now. This
barren landscape had definitely gotten the better of him and with the
movement in the distance, he was most certainly feeling paranoid.
Glancing around the room, he looked for anything he could use as a
weapon. Seeing some twisted metal in the corner of the room, Rivers
quickly ran over and picked it up. So much had just gone wrong that he
couldn't afford any more mistakes. Making his way cautiously again to
the hole in the wall that overlooked the landscape, his foot
accidentally kicked a few pieces of rubble which fell to the ground, the
noise resonating within Rivers' soul. There was no way whatever was
out there didn't hear that.

"I am not sure. I have never been here, though Mother often spoke of it."

Dawn
could not stand it any more. The small child moved to the woman's side,
plopping down hard and nabbing the chance to just touch the body. She
didn't look at Simon as the weight of everything she had kept at bay
pressed on her small soul dangerously. She shook the shoulders absently,
pleading for a response with only her eyes, but her demeanor showing
she knew the truth.

Finally she looked up to Simon.

"What am I to do, Simon? Where will I go?"

"It just seems so familiar," Rivers muttered
under his breath. Looking down to Dawn, he saw the pain in her eyes.
Somehow he had managed to neglect her in all of this. What had gotten
into him? Since when had he been so... emotional? Kneeling down so
that he was the same approximate height of Dawn, he looked into her
eyes.

"We will get back, I promise you. And when we do, you will
always have a place to go," Simon had the utmost sincerity in his eyes
as he spoke.

Standing back up, Simon looked at the ocean and then back at the sand.
"This,
this means something," Simon said being slightly annoyed that he
couldn't figure out what. "I have been here before, I know it...but
when, why?"

---------
The dim, flickering light in the medical
bay was somewhat entrancing as Bree simply sat on her bed, not sure of
what to do or even where she was. There was a sudden chill though as
something dark seemed to whoosh past her. The room seemed darker now
for some reason too.

him she did not know. For a long moment, she had nothing to add, so she
said nothing.

But she was thinking - thinking hard. It was obvious Simon had been here before.

Perhaps
if they walked a little. She gave his hand a tug, trying to get him to
follow her down the length of the beach, face stone as she steeled
herself to leave her mother for the last time.

Simon followed Dawn's subtle suggestion and
started walking. After walking a while, Simon couldn't help but feel as
if this had been done before. Finally stopping, Simon looked in both
directions at the endless sea of sand.

"It doesn't matter, we could walk for eternity, this beach doesn't end, of that I am sure."

--------
Rivers
had managed to silently slither his way out of the building without
being noticed by whoever else was on the planet with him. Running with a
quick and stealthy stride, Rivers put a few buildings between him and
the mystery person. With his back against a wall, Rivers stopped a
moment, regrouping with himself. It then dawned on him that he hadn't
spent any amount of time thinking about how he got here and more
importantly, who sent him here. It must have been her, at that last
moment when he left the beach, she must have knocked him off course.
She had always been a clever one.
His gaze fell upon the ground when a
surreal sight caught his eye. It seemed impossible, but there, in the
middle of the concrete and rubble, the dry earth and crusty roads, was a
single plant. Just sitting there, as if it was completely unaware of
all the destruction.

"Hello there," Rivers muttered, intrigued by
the sight. Kneeling down, Rivers inspected it further. There seemed
to be no reason, no possible way that a single plant could possibly have
survived whatever had happened all those eons ago.

"Interesting,"
Rivers murmured. There was a quick flash of light as Rivers' eye
caught the reflection of something. Looking up, he saw it. It appeared
to be a downed shuttle craft of some sort. It looked quite old, yet it
might just still be flyable. Standing up, Rivers headed off towards
the ship.

Simon bent down, hoisting her up onto his shoulders.
"Because,
I've been here before! I've done this before...I just can't remember
when...or why." Simon simply stopped, angrily looking out at the ocean.
For some reason it seemed extraordinarily seductive, as if it was
calling him. Absent minded, he began to wander closer to the crashing
waves, his toes finally touching water.

----------
Rivers
grinned as the ship climbed higher and higher. This had all been a
minor set back and that annoying Solari girl had once again lost. And
now she was dead and could no longer interfere with his plans. As the
planet finally seemed to move behind him, Rivers set his sights on the
stars...or the lacking of them. There were a few mind you, scattered
here and there, but not a universe full. And the gash in the heaven's
seemed to be gone and all that remained...debris, pieces of floating
junk, all over the planet as if it were a post apocalyptic graveyard on
both the planet and in space. And then he saw it, drifting in the
debris. The Darkwing, darkened and unlit, powerless and hopeless in
space.

Swerving on the controls, Rivers set the ship to fly
towards the Darkwing. Finding some sort of comm unit, he flipped the
switch, power coming to it and bringing the comm to life.

"Darkwing, this is Rivers, if anybody's still there, please respond!"

------
Breeana
could hear the voice of Rivers, fairly clear now as it was projected
through the internal speakers. She simply sat on her bed with bated
breath, watching the shadow as it seemed to probe the room, unaware of
her presence for some reason. That's when she slipped up. Moving
slightly, her elbow knocked the table next to her, rattling the tools
that were on it. Suddenly, the shadow stopped. Bree couldn't tell if
there was a front or a back, but she could tell it had suddenly looked
in her direction...especially as it lunged at her.

Tim ran
into the doors of engineering, panting. Jean simply stood there in
front of the central computer console as the countdown had been subsided
by Jean's quick actions. They both looked at each other, relieved yet
stressed.

"The water seems angry."

Dawn rested her
chin on top of Simon's head. Somehow, it's motion moved her in a
strange way. It seemed to reflect something of her emotional state. She
watched it, intrigued - and oddly scared.

"Rivers, I do not like being so close."

Simon stood there, pondering it and absorbing Dawn's words.

"No..."
Simon finally said, having made a decision, "nor do I...yet I
feel..this is important." Simon kept staring at the water as it seemed
to connect with him, the water swelling around his legs... pulling.

"It seems to want me!" Simon said suddenly.

--------

"Darkwing
do you read?" Rivers said once more into the comm. This had seemed to
have been the billionth time he called it in, but it was to be expected.
The ship looked to be a mess on the outside, so he couldn't imagine it
being much better on the inside. It was quite possible that whatever
happened during the reality shift, had bumped the crew off of the
ship...perhaps even killed them!

Finally in range, Rivers swung the small craft around to face the shuttlebay doors of the Darkwing.

"Now this poses a problem," he muttered to himself as he studied the closed doors, trying to figure a way to get inside.

Jean Castor picked a communication device that
appeared to have fall out of nowhere... She could hear Rivers voice
calling... She placed it in her ear and called...

"Simon, this is
Jean! The ship has been powered down to prevent what I think to be a
core overload... I've lost contact with the remaining crew, but I think
they're all alive!"

Rivers breathed a sigh of relief as Jean's
voice came over the comm unit. Perhaps this would prevent him from
ramming his way through the shuttlebay doors.

"Jean, is there any way you can get the shuttle bay doors to open?" Rivers inquired, crossing his fingers.

"I don't know... With no power we can only do
this manually, I guess..." Said Jean... "This ship has any manual
overwritte or I must turn the power back on?"

Breanna stifled a squeak when the Shadow came
at her in a sudden jerky movement. When it passed through her, the fear
was overwritten by puzzlement.

And then the fear came back in
full when her body stood up from the bed, without Breanna telling it to
do so. The fear turned to flat out terror when her body kept going, even
when Breanna was trying to go back.To say she didn't like this would be
putting it mildly.

Rivers paused a moment, thinking.

"Yeah,"
he finally responded, "there should be a physical manual override, it
should be on its own power system so in theory, it should still work.
You have to get to the primary shuttlebay though and operate it from
there!"

Something started beeping inside his little ship. Looking around to find the problem, he finally saw it.

"Great,"
he muttered. "Jean, better make it snappy, I have a pressure leak and
in less then two minutes, I'll be out of air!" Rivers said, his voice
elevated somewhat with anxiety.

That's when something caught his
eye. Craning his neck to see out as far as he could around the side of
the ship through the single viewport it had, he saw it. A flash which
whisked by in the distance and only visible out of the corner of his
eye. Things were about to get worse around here. A Solari was present.

"Your luck I'm almost there!" Said Jean to
Rivers... She entered the room and there it was: a bit "override doors"
lever... She pulled it and the doors started opening... "Hurry inside!"

Rivers waited for the doors to be open wide
enough for the small ship to enter. It seemed to take an eternity as
Rivers nervously kept glancing out of the porthole. The Solari was no
where to be seen, at least not from his view. Finally, he hit the
thrusters and gently glided the vehicle into the dark bay.

Waiting
for the doors to come to a close, Rivers opened the hatch to his small
ship, stepping back onto the familiar deck of the Darkwing. The smell
of burnt conduits singed the air around him. Movement catching his
attention, he saw the familiar face of Jean Castor as she came down from
the central shuttle control room.

"This thing's in quite the mess," Rivers stated as Jean came to a stop in front of him.

"And, before you appeared, we where 2 seconds
away of being cleaned up..." Replied Jean. "I've lost contact with
everyone, and Breanna is unconscious on the MedBay..."

"Right," Rivers started, formulating a plan of
action in his head. "We need to re-establish contact with the crew and
then assess what state the ship actually is in. First stop, medical!"
Rivers briskly took off walking for the doors.

-------

The
doors sluggishly slid open in front of Rivers and Jean as they entered
medical. Rivers took one look around before looking over to Jean with
an eyebrow raised.

"Where is she?" Rivers asked.

Breanna's body continued moving towards the
engine room, with the terror rising higher in her with every step that
she took. Her body was moving normally, but if an observant person
looked at her eyes, they would realize that something was seriously
wrong.

"Dammit!" Rivers muttered under his breath
before looking over to Jean. "Now we have a stranger who's never been
on this ship, wandering around without the faintest clue where she's
going." Briskly walking into the medical bay, Rivers positioned himself
over a computer console. Trying to activate its comm unit, the
computer simply fizzled, barely enough power coming to it for it to even
light up.

"We need to get power back up!" Rivers stated before
turning around and heading for the door. "Come on," he said to Jean,
"let's get to engineering and see if we can get this ship alive again!"

Dawn had gone very still at the statement. She
sat on his shoulders, watching the waves, anxiety mounting. "And what if
you let it take you? What will happen, Simon? What if you do not come
back for me?"

Dawn's words seemed to strike a chord in
Simon's mind. Come back. Come back. Looking up at Dawn with a
compassionate look on his face, Simon spoke to her, almost solemnly,
"I'll always come back for you!"

With those words, he knew what
he had to do. Reaffirming his grip on the girl's legs, he spun about
and started walking into the sand, away from the water. It was time to
go back.

------

Rivers came to a stop before the pried
open doors of engineering. Raising an eyebrow as he looked back at
Jean, he stepped over some debris as he cautiously entered the darkened
engineering. Someone, or something had forced its way into this room.
Going over to the side wall, Rivers opened a cabinet, though his face
grimaced as neither plasma pistols or flashlights could be seen in the
cabinet. Taking a breath in, Rivers looked around engineering.

"Seems
we're not alone in here," he said with a lowered voice to Jean.
Motioning with his hand, Rivers instructed, "you take that side, I'll
take this one." Without waiting for any sort of acknowledgement from
Jean, Rivers started quietly climbing up a ladder onto one of the upper
levels of engineering.

((Have fun with this one Kati!))

--------

Unnoticed
by anyone on the ship, an almost fiery entity gracefully drifted
through the bulkheads of the Darkwing, finally taking an almost human
like form as it landed on one of the decks of the ship. Without
hesitating, the entity made its way towards the bridge of the ship.

Jean moved into position, covering Rivers climbing...

"Hurry up climbing that..." Said Jean... After Simon reached the top, she asked "So, what do you see?"

Breanna fought with herself, trying as hard as
she could to yell, or something. Instead, she was unable to stop herself
as her fingers squeezed the trigger to the plasma pistol.

Stop it, stop it, stop it, STOP IT!

A mocking laughter filled her head, but Breanna knew that no one else would be able to hear it.

"So what do you see?" Jean asked Rivers as he looked around.

"Nothing..."
he started to say, when the engineering section suddenly erupted in a
flash of green, the energy bolt reflecting in the metal as it arced from
the pistol to its target. Rivers blinked a moment before looking down
at the smoking hole in his chest. Glancing back up at Jean, he only
muttered one word before crumpling to the ground. "Interesting."

As
the body of Rivers lay on the cold metal floor of engineering, it
slowly began to vaporize in a dark cloud, melting through the floor
until it was gone and nothing was left of Rivers.

-------

Simon
had been walking when there was a sudden, agonizing pain all throughout
his body. Collapsing to his knees in the sand, Dawn came tumbling off
of his shoulders at the sudden fall. Simon tried to take in a few
breaths and collect himself. He didn't need to look at Dawn to see her
inquisitive little face staring at him. But there was something
different now.

"I remember," he said, mumbling the words in his
sudden realization. Dawn began to back away as a dark cloud slowly
began to swirl around Simon's knees in the sand, it funneling upward
until Simon was completely enclosed in the dark cloud. A light began to
emanate from the center as the cloud swirled and swirled. The light
increased in intensity until it was too bright to look at. Finally, the
cloud exploded as the light pierced through it, enveloping it,
absorbing it.

As the light faded, all that remained was Simon Rivers still on his knees. Looking over to Dawn, he smiled a little.

"I know what has to be done now!"

"Rivers!" Jean yelled, watching him disappear. "Whoever is there, stand down!"

She
heard nothing in return... She decided to move in... Another blast was
fired, but failed for a few centimeters, forcing Jean to get to cover.

"I'm doing this nicely, but I can kill you when ever I want!"

Jean
peaked in... She could see Breanna... Her body was moving like if it
was voluntary, but she could feel the pure terror in her eyes...

"Breanna, can you hear me?"

Slowly, Steadily, Johnson awoke. His first
thought was: "I'm not dead! The ship must be intact!" He noticed that
the computer was back on and wasn't counting down, so the ship must be
safe for now. Either that or the computer was a lot weirder than Johnson
had previously thought when he had first been brought aboard the
Mk.III.

Suddenly, he heard an explosion in the direction of Engineering, and ran towards it, drawing his phaser.

She heard heavy footsteps behind her, like if
they were running... Johnson appeared, and when Jean saw it, it only had
time to yell:

"Get cover!" Right before a plasma bolt almost hit him... Johnson took some cover...

"Breanna I know you're there! Please stand down!"

The fiery human like form slid through the
jammed doors of the command center. The bridge was dark with the odd
flicker from a shower of sparks. Support beams were everywhere and the
dead body of Rose still lay slumped over a banister that had crumpled
partly under his weight.
As the form glided to the central command
console, it reached out with fiery arms and placed them on the panel.
Lights suddenly started flickering on and the ship began coming back to
life, even systems that were completely destroyed suddenly had power to
them. The engines began to pulsate, the core, stabilized, energizing,
becoming powerful, a deep rhythmic hum resonating through the hull as
the ship began to regain its power, it's strength.
The ship began to
right itself, establishing a proper orbit above the planet as it
re-energized itself. Suddenly, on the viewscreen, there was a brilliant
flash in the distance. A ship tumbled out of warp speed, Federation by
design and damaged, but still full of life.

Worry hung over Dawn like a heavy cloak. She
pushed up so that she could be on Simon's level - almost had to stand,
so small was she. But she took his face in both her little hands and
looked deep into his eyes. She hesitated a moment as she looked at him.

"... will it be safe?"

Episode IV Empty Re: Episode IV

Post by Darkwing 2011-07-20, 11:36

Simon cracked a weak smile at Dawn's caring for him. It was always as if the roles had been reversed. The little child had always been looking out for him instead of the other way around.

"I am afraid it won't be," Simon replied to her query, "but that is why it has to be done, otherwise, all life will be lost. You can stay here, where it is safe, if you wish of course," he offered to Dawn.
