What is a Life?

So I just said in the chat "I need a life," but that got me to thinking, what exactly is "having a life?"

Thats a damn good thought... Maybe the proper statement is "I need a Hobby, or something to take my mind off things."

no, i got a hobby, got a whole plethora of them

perhaps it's an abbreviation, perhaps the full sentence is actually "Social Life" but the social bit is dropped, because most people usually associate a life with going out with friends, partying, whatever

well yeh thats what people mean when they say get a life but your life really is whatever you want it to be whether you like going out partying or whatever. just because someone life as one thing does not mean everyone has to conform to that. i mean if they did we'd live in a pretty boring world

I second that. Everyone has different definitions on how they define what a life is.

I think it means to do something meaningful with your life. Meaningful, as in for the benefit of others.

I think it is most like... Be someone who does something meaningfull, while having fun in the process... Just be in someone's life, be its friend and so on... And having fun with your friends...

Actually, the fun part isn't really part of the definition. After all, treating people for cholera would be a noble life, but it wouldn't be fun.

Though, fun is necessary to function in life.

I'm just saying, for that having fun isn't technically necessary to do a noble deed.

Not everything is happy slappy and gratifying. But when you look back on it, you're glad you did that good deed.

it is interesting reading all your responses to this. This thread actually helped with a situation I've been in and that is deciding my future to the best of my ability. This thread helped realize that I'm a person who asks questions about things that most people don't think of and it's not so much that I want an answer, but rather, I want others to think of the question. Anyways, it has given me some direction such that I think I know what to do with myself now

well normally a person would find doing what he or she loves is fun, even though it may seem rather dull to others, it is what you love and its fun to him/her. if you love it and your having fun, then do it, it doesnt matter what others think.
