Why is there a desktop icon on your desktop? Does it create a black hole?

Mah Ubuntu! A lot of people dislike the 11.04 interface, but I like its minimalism. I haven't tweaked it much

Re: What's Your Desktop?
So you use seamonkey ay? How's that working out for ya?
@ Shem
If they killed that top bar, and fixed the inconsistencies and instability, then Unity would be pretty good.
As for now, it's too infantile for me to use. I'm thinking about just installing Arch, and getting used to Openbox as a window manager. But I've made a deal with myself to finish my Gnome and XFCE themes before I get to distro hop again. LOL
------------------------
Wabbo!
Using Linux Mint Debian Edition XFCE. It's pretty nice for a Debian based distro. Feels kinda bloated and slapped together though. I hate it when they take XFCE and make it run with a Gnome base! (Yes, Xubuntu does that too. But to a much larger degree than Mint.)
I'll probably stick with Arch when I make the leap.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
I don't mind the Unity interface as I prefer my setup to be as minimalist as possible. It took a while to get used to, mind you.
Openbox? You might as well go a step further and only work from command line! Ah well, it'll be faster than XFCE, which never has seemed to be significantly faster than more fleshed-out window managers.
Still sticking to Firefox over Chromium?

@DJ
I was just playing around with it, wanted to see what some of its web editing capabilities were like. I'm currently using FF5 beta

Re: What's Your Desktop?
FF5? So, is it worth the download? Or is it too unstable?
Well, openbox is lightweight enough. I use Kupfer for launching applications, so it's not like I need much of a traditional WM. Plus, I'm screwing around in at least 3 terminals when I'm not online. Fun fun fun!
Oh, and FF is still my king. Chrome just doesn't have the extensions that I need. And it's not customizable enough.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
Honestly, I don't notice a difference between FF5 and FF4. Of course I don't really go exploring it for add-ons and whatnot, but yeah, I've not noticed a difference at all. I imagine there's a lot of incompatible skins and whatnot, but stability wise, it still works. Also the same sites that didn't work on FF4, don't work on FF5 (like the site that shows me my paystub, I have to use Chrome to view that)
Re: What's Your Desktop?
Well, I'm just glad that my bank's website finally works with Firefox. (Idiots and their IE)
Re: What's Your Desktop?
Do you not find that alot of people are now starting to use chrome rather than firefox? I mean i still use firefox i also have no problems wiht it either.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
I haven't found that, the problem I face is that it's the newer versions of FF that don't work with this older app that my paystubs use. FF3 worked fine with it, but FF4 and 5 are no go's
Re: What's Your Desktop?
Here it is my new desktop... I formated my pc recently to put Windows 7 again, got sick of Vista really quick IMO xD

Re: What's Your Desktop?
I mainly use chrome now, although I have no qualms about flitting between it and FF. The interface layout is the weakest point on FF, I find.
Newer FF versions have better compatibility than older, especially for HTML5 stuff.
DW, your paycheque site is probably designed for IE (probably for version 6, knowing how reluctant some companies are to have someone update their stuff. Note - filehippo will have an installer for any older version of FF.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
Well, the interface of FF4 is rather nice, I'd say. And because of it's advanced customizability , I'd call it better than Chrome's.
Just one example:
'Hey Chrome, why, could I just add a new tab button, and put it next to my home button? Wait, what? WHAT!!! You can't do that???!!!? WHY!!!!!!? WTF???!!!!'

Yeah you can. I did it.
Re: What's Your Desktop?
Where did you get the button to put it there? I can't see one under the 'customise' right-click options.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
You have to click and drag the already existing new tab button (the one that is located next to your tablist) next to your home button.
Bad thing is that now you don't have a new tab button next to your tablist. But, I don't really care about that anyways.

Re: What's Your Desktop?
Well that was fast. Was there even a point? Like I mean FF4 isn't even a month old yet methinks and the beta for FF5 didn't even last a week and now it's out in full? Sounds like an Apple product
