I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
Ok since earlier this morning i found out that i can actually model in blender(will make a thread for it later), I decided to look around some 3d sites for some inspiration, when i came across an thread that had a guy who's Computer capped out at 50k polies, mine will likely cap at 2k. So after an hour of arguing and bartering with my mam, we decided that in June (my birthday) i can have an High End Computer, but i don't know jack for Computers, so i need some recommendation on what to actually buy.

NO. Just no. You are NOT buying a pre built rig. Get the components and build it yourself, or have the nerd squad build it for you.

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
Pre-builts generally aren't meant to handle the type of workload something like 3d modeling and animation has. Even the expensive ones with great stats have a way of suddenly becoming useless after a couple months of usage. That being said, most people can only get pre-builts (though custom made ones can actually be cheaper) it's all a matter of the hardware you put into it. So whether you get a pre-built or a custom, here's some things to look for that would be suitable for 3D modeling and animation:
OS: Windows (64bit is preferable)
Bare minimum of a dual core processor, if you can do more, definitely do it! I would recommend the minimum as a quad core (though most animators like to have something in the 24 core range)
RAM: If doing 64 bit, hit up 8GB at least, but the more the merrier
HDD: 1TB (Animation is quite large)
Processing Speed: no less than 2.13 GHZ per core
DVD-R/RW Drive (Bonus if you can get a second drive that's BD-R, if you do, go Sony)
Graphics Card: Thingy probably has a better idea of this, but basically, anything that will run an intense modern game smoothely is something you want to look for. nVidia or DirectX are the most compatible with animation software I do believe.

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
Half the price is picking components and having some chinese dude assemble it. Non prebuilt is a crapload cheaper and higher quality. But if you have a fetish for paying twice the price for something, i could charge you 500 quid for making the list and giving you incredibly shitty support for a month, after which i will sarcasticly say ''Sir... You had one month.

I'll assemble a list for you on play.com. Or amazon if it's cheaper.

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
I believe most people Say if you can play a Seamless game of Crysis on High GFX, then your computer is pretty high end. I'm only looking for a Comp that can handle 1 million polies at best. I highly doubt i will be going into the multi million range till my 20s (in about 5 years).
The joy of getting the computer assembled is i live across the street from a Comp shop, (a none corporation one)

Build it yourself, i sadly use pre built rigs as i cant afford to buy components, it is cheaper to build it yourself, plus you know your gonna get what you need!

1. Cheaper since you're going high end.
2. Customizing hardware is so much fun! (You can have an overclocking party in your pants)
3. The satisfaction of building your own PC is insurmountable.
Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
I would also build my own computer. (I have the knowledge to do it since I have done it before like 7 years ago) In terms of modern processors the intel i7 has virtual multi threading and that will definitely be a bonus for you ( I do not want to explain that) I have heard good things about multi core graphics cards lately however not sure if they are worth it.
anyways for storage since you are working with stuff you do not want to lose go for a RAID 1 storage system though they are rather expensive though some say performance wise and security of data they are better. 1Tb is the sweet spot in there now.

Or...you could really think hard about whether you need all that, think whether you will still be doing 3D stuff in five years' time.
It sounds great, but from personal experience £1000 would be more useful to me as spending money later in life - you want a decent car once you pass your test, right?
It's your choice and I'm sure you'll be happy either way, so enjoy!

Yes, if you're a shutin introverted misanthrope.
But if you like going places, get your wheels. (or you could build a jetpack)
note: no offense DW

Well... If you have to go to far away places, I'd pick a car... But If I only walk around in the city and suburbs, then I would buy the pc, since I would only need public transports and similars...

Or you could walk.
And I don't take offense to facts...usually...sometimes....

LOL
Hey wait, what if he got a motorcycle instead?
1. It's Badass
2. Chicks dig it - Badass
3. Better on gas - Ecofriendly
4. If you get something awesome, you can outrun cops - Badass
Downside....
1. Safety - Even with a helmet and armor, you're still screwed.
2. The cold - You will freeze your bum off!
3. Ice/Snow - Doesn't go well with a two wheeler. No traction = Tip-over
4. Only max of 1 passenger, unless you want to get creative - 1 is all you need though, right?

If Vedic could drive I'm sure he'd be convinced by your argument, DJ.
And DW, don't tell me you aren't reliant on others with cars to go anywhere from your house. Wouldn't they get tired of dropping you off and picking you up if you had social/entertainment/miscellaneous activities at awkward times for them? Say, if your work was in the other direction to theirs?

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
You can still walk, take the bus, take a taxi, bike, scooter, skateboard, rollerblade, (am I missing anything?)
Cars are a luxury and I lived most of my life without one, so I am quite used to walking to where I want to get to (of course then we had to go and move away from everything against my wishes which puts me an hour's walk away from everything like work, though I still walk sometimes)
But anyways, walking everywhere, or at least most everywhere is an option. Sure we'd have to borrow our grandparents car when Mom had her surgery and appointments in the city, but for day to day usage, walking sufficed quite well

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
Indeed. I know that if I ever got one, my mommy would hunt me down and bash my head open. I've been lectured so many times.. Welp, she's gonna be pissed in two weeks when I go on a "hiking" trip with guns....
Nom nom nom!!!

Re: I'm gonna get anew rig Soon
I prefer to keep death of the roads, so i won't be getting a car, plus it will be 3 year before I'm legal to drive, so getting a new Comp would't stop me from getting a car in the future.
