Sketches and Blender
Hello, I'm Pyrophage, I'm something of an artist, and I'll be exhibiting stuff here.
A gorilla. Wip. Sepia tone added digitally.
I've also been mucking around with blender, does anyone have any interest in seeing the results or advice?

Re: Sketches and Blender
Sorry, you'll have to wait until I finish getting it presentable, right now it's rather hideous. I didn't have many models (0) backed up when my desktop went down.

Who here remembers the flash stick incident?
Re: Sketches and Blender
Thanks destral.
Now can I upload the blend file? Or just a screenshot? I don't recall.
Anyway, a screenie. All shall cower before it's awful angularity!
Ugh. I thought I used to be better than that...
I started with the cube then used loop cuts, duplications and extractions to create it.

Re: Sketches and Blender
nice, but blender should be able to render images to your HDD, then you just upload the pic to here

A bit more realistic, going through a dust cloud. It actually looks almost professional like this. I'm shocked.

Re: Sketches and Blender
Yeah, i'm pretty happy with it. I just need to finish a bit more fur and shading. I do all my sketches free hand, some turn out better than others.

Yeah, but Destrals models suck. His animations are terrific, but models...
Re: Sketches and Blender
Yea, none of those models are mine. I usually get them from various websites, most notably this one: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/
I just do the animations and effects and stuff.
I just do the animations and effects and stuff.
Re: Sketches and Blender
I on the other hand do some modeling, but I'm not overly good at it. I'm getting better, but I don't put that much focus into it

nice work. like you say texturing is really what's bringing this one down, but the modeling is quite nice
Re: Sketches and Blender
A far grander wip.
Cruiser with a BSG-esque theme.
Blue is detail.
Edit- Destral, got any projects on the horizon? I was wondering if once I finished the model, if you could take it and animate it.

Mo' pics.
You'll have to take my word that the ships is perfectly symmetrical. I don't know why the ribs disappear towards the front.
Good view of the command center and helps establish scale.
Underside. Not much else to say.

Re: Sketches and Blender
What do I plan on doing with it?
I don't know. Finishing it, for starters. Maybe make a short game or animation with it?
Blender has a game engine bundled up in it, I'm not sure how to do any of that yet, though.
@Darkwing: Thanks. She's none too polished, but she'll do. Any suggestions for a name?
A few of the ones rolling around in my head: Tsiolkovsky? Raven? Revenant? Ifrit? Pyre? Arbiter? Ephor?

Re: Sketches and Blender
That was one of my favorites. The Revenant it is.
She's nearing launch, I've un-screwed all the problems I can and all I have to do left is create the engines, places them in the engine recesses, place more plating on the pylons and "wings", and then texture and render away.
Slightly out-of-date. I got sick of the yellow, did you notice. Besides, with the extra lamps, contrast wasn't an issue. A few newer features, including fixes for some "broken" panels, thicker armor and weapons on the pylons.
Underbelly, showing off some fixes and thicker armor. The recesses may end up being small bays, or weapons batteries, or maneuvering thrusters. I thought about exhaust ports, but really, who hasn't seen Star Wars?
Fore view, slightly tweaked weapons, nothing too noticeable, a few fixes.
Also, when I haven't felt up to (or had enough time) to devote to the Revenant, I've been working on a companion ship, a destroyer escort.
I have two models I;m working on in various variants, these are the two I have rendered so far:
A)
B)
I hope to have another rough "sketch" by tomorrow. Which reminds me, I need to upload some pencil art for you guys.
What do you think? Any feedback? Is there anything I could be doing better? Do you have any thoughts or concepts, I'm open to suggestions and always looking for more practice.

Re: Sketches and Blender
Hey, I was wondering what happened to you! Good to see you back! Interesting look you got going on there. Y'know, it vaguely reminds me of this fan SG design I saw on Sci-Fi meshes once, where it was similar that they had the long beam going through the middle, but it was actually caged, it's hard to describe and I dunno if I could find the thread there or not, but it might be cool if you attempt something similar

Re: Sketches and Blender
It's not all that hard. I'll try to post a tutorial sometime. I'm not really good enough to presume to judge others, but I hope I can help you start.
Though, I'd recommend whatever DW and Destral use, they've much more experience than I and will be huge assets if/once you actually start mucking around.

Re: Sketches and Blender
No, Destral using 3DS Max (which costs approx 3500 dollars) and he can't really model but can animate very well, I use Animation Master which is only 300 dollars (or 80 bucks for the one year subscription) and I can model but can't animate very well

You remember things in the shower too? So comforting.
@ Pyro
Nice models! How much time did those take you to do?
Re: Sketches and Blender
More than I'd like to admit.
I've sunk about 45min~an hour thirty in the turret. About twice that in the destroyer and 4-10 times that in the cruiser (now scrapped.)
Oh, the old pic and this kinda give you an idea of my work-flow, if anyone cares to examine it.

Re: Sketches and Blender
That I do!
Blender has a bit of a learning curve, but I managed alright on a cold start with no one to help me. But, it's free and open sourced. Can't complain about that.

Yeah the Gou'ould have a organic-ish look with there ships, and the Asgard are just good designs with good textures, i mean Over-advanced and better looking than Atlenaten ships
(I've no idea how to spell Atlantean, so it most likely slept wrong)

Re: Sketches and Blender
Yeah, to be honest I was a bit disappointed with the Atlantean ships. I kinda expected the ancients to continue with their elegant yet powerful look, but honestly, their ships (save maybe the puddle jumpers and Atlantis) are kinda ugly looking and don't really look like Ancients designed them
