Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
we were actually discussing this in media studies one day, about the re-use of plots and plot elements, such as star wars and harry potter being almost the same (that got a lot of people upset) and star wars was a rip-off of something older, i forget what, but it just goes back and back and back
Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
Actually it's more like SW was a rip of ST and ST being a rip off of something old...
Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
No, but when Star Wars was made, Star Trek wasn't like this, so Star Trek was a rip of Star Wars, JPB...
Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
Yes, I know what he meant, but that line of thought is wrong, I believe, because the plot in Star Wars has nothing to do with the TOS plot (or any other Star Trek plot except for Star Trek XI).
Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
I ment to say that George Lucas got inspired on Star Trek! And I remember seeing that both Star Wars trilogies where almost inspired one another... and I think it was in this forum... and I think it was you, raffitz...
Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
well, if you break it down into plot elements/characters (and I'm talking TOS here)
Han Solo = Kirk: They're both independent and make the decisions on the fly. Both are Captain of their own ships and each get the girls
Obi-Wan = Spock: Wise and thoughtful, though one has mystical abilities to move things and stuff, the other can read minds, incapacitate somebody with a pinch. Both are relatively older characters in each's show
Luke = McCoy: Though one is a trained physician, both are the human element to the plots. Each one caring about what happens to the people screw the logic. Though Luke is more adventurous then McCoy, some could argue Luke as Kirk to a degree
Darth Vader = Khan: Both are equally angry though costuming is different both are in some sense modified ie Khan is an augment and Vader a robot
Now Trek itself is more a rip-off of an old fifties movie called forbidden planet, it is very similar in character, plot and atmosphere

Everything is derivative. It's all cowboys and Indians in space anyway.

Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
Which one was that? The episode name? I might watch it.
As for SW ripping ST, yeah, Lucas did. And its worse in my opinion.

Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
how the hell did he do that? last time i checked there werent any space stations, force powers or light sabers in ST. Also, ST was about exploration, SW was about a civil war between good and evil.

Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
1st - There was SpaceStations in TOS...
2nd - I think it was like... the idea of making a space film was after seeing a ST episode, something like that...

Re: Star Trek = Star Wars
Yes, but not the size of small moons and capable of destroying planets, also there's tons of space stations in other sci fi's. And yes, but that's still not enough to be considered a rip off.
