Ditched Norton, Went Open Source Empty Ditched Norton, Went Open Source

Well, my Norton Anti-Virus subscription expired, so I thought about shelling out the dough to reactivate it. Then, I suddenly thought about getting open source security! Well, I did some research, and the following programs caught my attention:

1. Avast! antivirus

2. Antivir antivirus

3. Clamwin antivirus

4. Spyware Blaster!

5. Ad-Aware

6. COMODO firewall Pro

To start off, I wiped Norton Antivirus from my hard drive. (That takes about 10-20 minutes)

Then, I decided upon an antivirus program. I chose Avast! antivirus, mostly because user reviews were usually 5 out of 5 star ratings.

I now needed some good spyware protection, so I did some more research, and installed two programs: Ad-Aware, which is just good for scanning your computer, and removing spyware, and Spyware Blaster!, which just pretty much prevents spyware from even getting on your computer.

Last, I installed COMODO firewall Pro. This is the BEST open source firewall I have ever seen! It does take it a while to learn your system though. I just keep the defense level on Clean PC mode. It's not as annoying that way. (That's the default setting anyways.)

After I installed all of the programs, and configured them, I noticed that my computer was running much faster....

I even restarted my computer, and my startup was about 2 times faster then before!

I then came to the conclusion that Norton sucks balls, and slows down your computer. I will never pay for antivirus software again!!!!!
Twisted Evil

I HIGHLY suggest getting, and running these programs together. I haven't had ANY problems with my system since I changed

my security software. cheers

Of course Norton sucks!

By the way, have you defragged your computer recently?

I have about 1 1/2 years ago. Norton Internet Security 2006 sucked. It didn't clean up everything like it claimed to. It took up way too many computer resources as well. In fact, my computer was probably better off speed-wise without it. >_>

anyway, Ad-aware is okay, but I can't get it to update lately, and it doesn't catch totally everything. Neutral

That's why I have Spyware blaster to go with it.

@ Alkanosis

So, what antivirus software do you have now?
