Skeeve was in his head. Deep. his senses were
high tend a huge amount more then usual but he was unable to respond to
them. The amount of information was too much too fast for his brain to
analyse. He knew where he was, there were legends and stories told of a
place called "The O.Z.". A place so far away that it was said you could
go there with two choices. Death or never return back. (((ugh, work
calls, more on this later)))

It was suddenly like a dream and he was lost.
He wandered through the lush green forest for hours it seemed. What
Skeeve didn't know was that hours in the O.Z. could mean mere seconds
outside. He wandered until he came upon a small township. Any estimate
he would say no more then 160 people. As he walked through town no one
gave him any attation like this was a common occurrence. He saw many
people gathering to hear a man speak. They were bringing him gifts of
un-imaginable value. So Skeeve decided to stop and see what the bustle
was about.

"...ubmerge their little petty differences and agree on one thing: That though one... You, how long have you been walking?"
Skeeve was perplexed as everyone turned toward him.

"I... It's been..." Skeeve was unsure of what to say, he was never nervous but in this instance he had no clue. "hours"

"I see" said the man, he addressed the crowed again "You all must go, i have to speak with the visitor"

I walked into the hut that was heavily guarded but once inside i was sure that we were totally alone.

"The
last visitor came 157 full moons ago. I told him what I will tell you.
You are in the O.Z. The people you see came from either the same realm
as you or one of the others like it. Tell me your name Master Assassin."

"How did you know?" I said

"I know much, but i do not know your name.:

"Its Skeeve. I am a Librian assassin of the 677th degree."

"Yes, and the top rank of 1000nd is still unreached by all but one"

"Yes. Tell me about the OZ"

"Yes,
" He began "The O.Z. is a place outside of reality but not of time. But
time here is much longer. You have only been here for a matter of
moments in your time. The O.Z. could in one way be called the stitches
of everything. It can not fall. To ensure this there are 12 protectors
including myself. A 13th but non natural, meaning not born of the O.Z.
exists and in time i will tell you about him. In the beginning there
were great wars to destroy the O.Z. We 12 raised up armies of people
born in the O.Z. to protect this place, we were successful but at the
cost of many lives. Very few members of the army still exist and some of
them guard this palace with there lives."

"If they are so old why are they not dead?"

"You
do not die of natural causes here. Let me continue. We have vowed to
never again raise such a powerful army. Your race is special in their
aptitude to focus and come here. Never before has such ability existed.
Of course others can come bit you are especially equipped. We believe
you are the only people who are still alive that can return from the
O.Z."

"We are taught it is impossible. that we should be careful to not come here because we will die or never return. "

"in time you will learn the truth. Now you must-" He began saying

"Master Ajax, another has arrived. She is in the village." A guard said

"Bring her to me at once!" Ajax demanded.

The woman pushed aside the curtain to enter and
immediately Master Ajax stood for her. Skeeve quickly followed. She was
the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and she was Librian. To
Skeeve it seemed that time had frozen to a fraction of the normal speed.
She began turning her head and her eyes met Skeeve. The both stood
looking at each other.

"Please, come in." Skeeve found him self saying. She walked toward him and took his hands in hers and spoke

"Hello"

It
was true love at first sight. With her beautiful grey eyes in his and
his hands in hers the stood just completely absorbed by one another. It
was like forever passed when Master Ajax spoke up.

"Please be seated, both of you. Please tell me your name." He said.

"Tanda." and she sat with skeeve

"Skeeve, You must focus on me now. You should
be on your way but i know this may not be the last time we meet. YOu
must seek out the assassin Ahaz-"

"I cant , he died years ago"

"No,
he did in your world. He lives here in the O.Z. The only person to ever
cross in and out and achieve the master degree of 1000. He will train
you to leave this place. Seek him out in the woods where you came. As
for you Tanda-"

"She will come with me." Skeeve quickly said

"I fear she cannot for she lacks the focus to return to your world."

"If he can, then I must try." She piped up. Clearly not settling for less.

"Very well. You will leave in the morning" Ajax said.

As they were leaving. Ajax stoped skeeve "You must seek out and protect Simon Rivers at any cost"

"But-" I began

"You must!" Ajax exclaimed. And Skeeve left.

They made there way through the woods until
they found a camp sight. Skeeve and Tanda entered the sight. The fire
was going and there was hot food set upon a plate. "Something isn't
right here." Skeeve said and immediately he was attacked. The fight was
quick but for the first time Skeeve had lost. "Please, I mean not to
harm you only to seek your help"

Ahaz replied with one simple question "Name?" to which Skeeve properly replied. "I will help you, what do you seek"

"To train under you to return to my prime universe."

"It is not possible" Ahaz said.

"I will try anyway."

"Very well, first get yourself something to eat, and fix her a plate too."

Skeeve did as he was told and made himself and Tanda each a plate.

Many
days had passed, Skeeve and Tanda were becoming closer and closer but
Ahaz did not approve. Daily they meditated and Skeeve was sick of it.
"Why are we doing this, we have not done anything!"

"Patience, you have learned much."

"I have learned nothing!"

"Tell me what is far to the east."

"I can not tell you, i have not gone there"

"Then look."

And Skeeve did, there was a beautiful and huge maple tree. One that could not be missed for miles it seemed.

"You see it. Was it their before."

"No"

"And you can see it now. Come"

And they took a long run to find the tree but they could not find it, Skeeve was frustrated.
"Where is it, stop playing games" he asked

"I do not know, only you do"

"I saw it right here, surely you must have scene it." Skeeve stated

"I did not, and I may never. What was it you saw?"

"A maple tree"

"And it was here. Why cant you see it now." Ahaz said

"I do not know!"

"Because you have not planted it yet."

"What?!"

"It
is your tree and someday you will plant it here. You have some very
strong connection to it. One that can never be broken. My tree is the
pine in my camp. I planted it 117 years ago. It has a life force like
mine and forever i will be a part of it and it a part of me. In simple
terms, you are seeing the future, something that can only happen when
you feel very strongly about an object, person, or place. You may be
looking hundreds of years into the future and i will tell you now that
never again will you look so far. This tree is the farthest you will
ever be able to look."

"I'm not sure what this means for me leaving. "

"It
is where you will depart and where you will return. It is for you only,
and it is sacred. Never again will i come to this spot without you and
your permission. IN battle, if you feel strong enough about what you are
doing then for only a few seconds or more see what the future of the
combat is. It is this way that i was able to defeat you. May we sit some
more"

As i Skeeve was sitting in thought about all of this he decided to ask.

"Why don't you like me being with Tanda"

"Beacuse
i was you once and i was in love when i came to the OZ. Love is a
distraction and with it you can never leave, but you must. I know about
Simon Rivers."

"How did you leave?" Skeeve asked although he wished he hadn't.

"I gave up love forever, never again to feel it. I was able to come and go as i please. You will have to do the same."

"No, i will not. I will not lose love."

"You can not" And Ahaz stoop and left.

Hours
later when Skeeve came back to the camp his food had gone cold, Tanda
was their waiting for him. "Where were you? What did you do?"

To which, with much sadness, Skeeve gave no reply and went to sleep.

Skeeve and Ahaz went for a morning run then next day. After a while Skeeve asked "What happened to the woman you loved?"

"Follow
me" And they ran into a part of the woods that Skeeve had never visited
and they stood on a ridge and looked into a smaller camp sight. "There
she lives alone. " And the woman came out of her lodge and looked
directly at Skeeve and Skeeve walked down into her camp.

"You
remind me of him. In your eyes. Do not worry, I do not resent him, in
his time he carried a great burden and he choose to take it on himself.
He had to leave in order to do that he left me. But everyday i am proud
of his work even though he never visits." She spoke.

"And are you sad?" Skeeve asked

"How could I not be. Please stay through dinner and speak with me"

And
Skeeve did. She was an herbalist and a historian of the OZ. They talked
for many hours and Skeeve learned a lot about the OZ. By the time he
headed back to camp Ahaz had already left.

Skeeve headed back to camp and met Tanda. He
embraced her in his arms, apologizing for his actions the other day. "I
would never betray you" He spoke. Ahaz came in and spoke "Its time for
you to go"

"How can I be ready?"

"You were ready when i made you see your tree."

Skeeve turned to Tanda "Come with me, i have to show you something"

"She can not return with you Skeeve. She will not be in the same place on the other side and she may not survive the journey"

"Then I will stay.

Weeks
had passed. Skeeve had to go into town and Tanda went with him. They
spent many hours in the shops around town before finding them selves in
the square.

Ajax was sitting high on his chair and he immediately looked to Skeeve. "WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE!!" He boomed over the crowd.

"Because i am in love and will not leave"

Ajax
stepped down and came to him. Standing just an arms length away he said
"Then you have no choice". It looked as though he were going to hit
Skeeve but he stopped with his palm on skeeve's head and Skeeve fell to
the ground and his body disappeared like sand blown away in the wind.
Ajax told Tanda "Tell Ahaz what has happened here"

Skeeve had fallen. Like there was a hole in the
ground and he was falling with nothing to catch himself on. He saw
things as he fell, little things like plants and big things and although
he reached out he could not grab hold and stop. Someone was forcing him
down through the drain.

"No!
Wait!" Skeeve yelled out as soon as he woke up. He did not know where
he was. There were all of these people rushing onto him and he was in a
bed. He blacked out.

The next thing he could remember was sitting in a room in a place he sis not know. There was one man there.

"Welcome
back. You have been out for weeks, maybe longer. You were out when we
got you and we thought you would either die or never wake up."

"I must get out of here" Skeeve said "Where am i"

"In a hospital"

"No, WHERE what planet what system am i on... Your no good, i must leave and find Rivers."

Skeeve
was tearing sensors off. He had to leave and as he was running there
were all of these guards trying to stop him. Like he was a prisoner. he
made leaps and bounds over them. He kept running until he found himself
on a street and stole some clothes. He had to find rivers.

Skeeve burst into being on the ground, with a
quick gasp and his eyes shooting wide open he knew he made it back to
the OZ. He was by his yet to be planted maple tree. He knew he had to
talk to someone but with such great fear he lost all thought and ran to
one person. Ajax, in the small village outside of Ahaz's camp. But
Skeeve wasnt thinking about that, only the great fear his prime reality
left him as it was destroyed, with him still in it.

"Ajax!" Skeeve was telling as he burst into his
hut. "Ajax, everything is gone, all destroyed. I dont know what
happened to my universe or to Simon. You have to do something"

"I can not"

"How can you sit there while creation is destroyed!"

"Simon is not dead. Your task is not finished, you will return alive and well, and you must stand by Rivers."

"How can you know"

At
that statement Ajax stood and seemed 50 feet tall. The sky darkened and
everything vanished. It was a great and terrible power ajax called
forth. Skeeve had forgotten the history the Old Woman in the woods
taught him that night and Skeeve regretted forgetting.

"Because I am Ajax, A Master of the OZ and greater than the greatest things you know! DO NOT QUESTION ME!"

Skeeve
fell to the ground and feared for his life before the giant. "Master, I
apologize" and Skeeve tried to leave the OZ, return to his mission but
he could not something was holding him back.

"I control this domain with 12 others and I-" Ajax spoke but Skeeve had vanished, like sand.
