Re: Together or Separated
Ah but that's easily explained. See no matter how selfish or "corrupt" we become, there's always an inkling of conscious, the sense of right and wrong. Anyways, our subconscious occasionally needs to appease itself, make itself be able to live with itself, therefore, you'll occasionally do nice things, simply to balance the rest of you out.
Re: Together or Separated
And even then your actions can still be described as selfish. Even when you help other people, it's at least partly selfish. Kinda depressing to think about, but something you just gotta live with.

Re: Together or Separated
Yep, that's generally how it works, a selfish act to appease selfish acts. But ultimately, who else do we have other than ourselves? I mean I can't appease Philly's conscious, or anybody else and all in all, why would I want to? You're a separate person, a different entity, my survival is foremost to me as everyone's is to themselves
Re: Together or Separated
I find religious christians (those that go to church every sunday, say prays at meal time and all that stuff) to be quite selfish people. I know a few religious and non-religious christians and tbh non-religious christians are more willing to help me with things.
Re: Together or Separated
Most of that comes down to the fact that real hard doctrine isn't really being taught anymore, so Church has become a place for "uppity" people to go to feel good about themselves
Re: Together or Separated
which is why I think Christianity has strayed so far away from it's 'meaning' than any other religion only second to Jihad Muslims.
Re: Together or Separated
Well the fundamentalists yes. See there's two sides to every coin and the fundamentalists are one side, the reformists are essentially the other (though they have their problems too). But with the Reformists, the Doctrine is what's key and it's not so much about feel good stuff but we're all damned to eternal suffering unless God intervenes (which is more along the lines of the truth in a nutshell) whereas the fundamentalists are like "God's nice and if you're good you can go to heaven." Plus there's a lot of hypocrisy and double truths in the more fundamentalist churches if you ask me. But like I said, the reformists have their problems too (infant baptism for one)

Jihad simply means struggle. This can mean armed struggle, the meaning by which you likely have had your perceptions of Jihad colored unfairly. It also, in a religious sense, can simply mean the war within one's own soul to maintain faith.
And technically every Muslim should undergo Jihad. It's central to the faith, so basically all followers of Islam should be "Jihad Muslims," as you put it.

Re: Together or Separated
Lets think what do most wars have in common.. Religion. The Crusades were between Christians and Islamists/Arabs. World War 2 involved the Jewish and now we're back at Muslim-Christian wars been fought in Afghanistan. There's also the strain between Iran and Israel which is pointless considering Iran want the Israelis back where they came from which was Israel and there already there.
The bottom line is Religion is in some ways the creator of what we call 'evil'.

Re: Together or Separated
And here we go, this is why we don't have religious discussions, I had hope that it wouldn't turn into this, but it did.
I'll put it this way, even if we didn't have religion, we'd still have war and probably to the same capacity that we've always had it. Why? It's not religion, it's us, we;re the common denominator. Anybody can twist the words of somebody else and use it to start war, people do it for money, for religion, for oil etc. Religion is not the harbinger of war, humanity is. Always remember that or else you'll be no better then anyone.

Re: Together or Separated
All have evil and good aspects too them. Even God himself has evil within' him and the devil has some good inside him.
Views change depending on weather you believe in science or religion. Personally I believe science can explain religion.

I know I should really lock this thread now, but you have it wrong.
God has no evil, thus why he's holy and, well, God. If he had evil, even a little, then he couldn't have been the perfect sacrifice and he would be unable to save anybody from hell as he would be condemned to there as well.
