Re: 2010 greatest hits
Depends if you are talking about the importance of sound engeneering logically or if you are talking about it as in it's your favourate thing.
Darkwing you do have a point but we do all love recorded music aswell as live (:

Re: 2010 greatest hits
Oh yes, I'm just arguing the point that a sound techy isn't always needed to make good sound.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Definatly but they can improve the quality of the sound. It's simply to take distractions away so that people can focus on how good the music is.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
DW I hope you realize that a building can make or break any sound scape that is why having a sound guy is useful

Say one doesn't play in a building
Re: 2010 greatest hits
then it is a whole new acoustic arena, there are huge number of factors to take into account. The idea of a sound system is not just to make it loud but to enhance and spread the sound evenly. for example in a orchestra a double bass will only have a short range while a violin with a dominant high mid range will have a long range thus a hot spot/dead spot occurs in some areas. by adding a sound system not only can you negate the dead spots but you can also start to remove hot spots by balancing things out.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
But that's not what we're debating. You said basically, nothing good can come sound wise, namely musically, without a sound guy. I said you're wrong, good sound/music can be had even if there is no sound guy or sound tech involved.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Ah, so let's discuss a better year, 1938. Benny Goodman Carnegie Hall Concert FTW
Re: 2010 greatest hits
I break my anti-pirate/free music (though this wasn't pirated)
For those so inclined, this is the concert (the most famous in Jazz history I do believe) It is very much incredible and I'll see if I can find a typed out version of the history of the concert and it's transition to CD, it's a pretty cool history
Disc 1
Disc 2

Re: 2010 greatest hits
No best song of 2010? I disagree. Heartily.

I'll listen to it when it's done buffering......
Now there is a song I hate soooo much (and I hear it 3 times a day at least at work), lemme see if I can find it so I can make your ears bleed too

I prefer:
I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar
Much more poetic and from an awesome movie

You'll probably like their most recent album, What Separates Me From You. They had a huge shift in musical direction for some reason. Still great though

Re: 2010 greatest hits
@ the debate a few pages back
I think it's obvious that Jtull is a sound guy...
I've been playing the piano since I was 5, and I love it. I would like to move on to the guitar soon. Time is becoming a constraint though.
It's just that you can get so much more out of a note with a guitar. It's such a versatile instrument.
Just downloaded it, thanks. Will give it a listen.

Indeed, the human instrument is the best. When you sing, you can channel emotion straight from your heart. It just feels natural. (If only I could do that... lol)jls1233 wrote:Darkjedi wrote:It never gets old because it appeals to the fleshly desires of the masses. When something sells, the music industry keeps producing it. Oh, and you're forming a band? Splendid! (I love that word)
What instrument do you play?
I play guitar and piano but i mainly sing (:
