All music sucked this year. Though wait...did that new Collective Soul album come out this year or last year? I can't remember
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Wait what? Collective Soul came out with a new album? Googling....Darkwing wrote:All music sucked this year. Though wait...did that new Collective Soul album come out this year or last year? I can't remember
Oh, and since when did you like them? Why didn't you tell me? I love Collective Soul!
And yes, music sucked this year. Literally, the only song I liked this past year was Secrets by One Republic.
That's all! And that song gets old fast too. Pop, bleh.
I declare 2010 the suckiest music year of this decade so far! GRRRRRRRR!!
Re: 2010 greatest hits
I love Collective Soul, I just don't remember when the "Rabbit" album came out, if it was 2010, or 2009
Re: 2010 greatest hits
It was 09.
Oh, and they played in Halifax?
BTW, best song ever:

Reminds me of my father. Going to the park, camping, the ocean, girlfriends. Just about everything good in life. The ultimate nostalgia for me.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
I have to say only two good albums came out this year
Hillsong Live 2010 a Beautiful exchange
Planetshakers - Even Greater
other than that crap year.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
Was good year for writing my own music. But there weren't any memorable songs from this year. Most songs on the radio or "popular" music promotes bad living habits. BORING.

Yeah, the top 40 or suchlike is never great. However, there is good stuff to your own tastes just below the surface.

Oh yes Shine, great song. I actually have the album for their Home concert and Shine is the last piece they play, very cool, the concert was one done with an orchestra so it sounds very cool IMO
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Indeed. All it's about is sex and partyin. Same old same old.jls1233 wrote:Was good year for writing my own music. But there weren't any memorable songs from this year. Most songs on the radio or "popular" music promotes bad living habits. BORING.
And you write your own music?
Re: 2010 greatest hits
My top 5 is all indie shit that apparently no one here likes anyways. And I don't listen to the radio :/

sex and partys *yawn* That is boring why sing about it. Its stupid
Re: 2010 greatest hits
To Darkjedi,
Yes it is all about sex and partying, i just wonder why it never gets old?? It doesn't involve much common sence or proper choice making does it! >>>>>
And yes i do write my own music. Music for a purpose and clean fun. (: pulling a band together at the moment. Music is the best!

Re: 2010 greatest hits
It never gets old because it appeals to the fleshly desires of the masses. When something sells, the music industry keeps producing it. Self-control has become obsolete to modern worldly culture.
Oh, and you're forming a band? Splendid! (I love that word)
What instrument do you play?

Re: 2010 greatest hits
I'm quite tired of hearing songs about love, like geez, there must surely be something to write about other than love or anything similar (ie liking, lack of love, sex etc)

Re: 2010 greatest hits
Not necessarily, emo music is just self destructive music which is just anti-love music, therefore essentially categorized as the same thing. Why not sing about, I dunno, a trip you took, or an interesting object you saw one day? Like why love?
Re: 2010 greatest hits
And again, wrong.
Most of the time I like emo. It's genuine heartfelt stuff. Only within the pop punk and hardcore scenes though, cause screamo sucks chode.
Wikipedia wrote:Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics.

Sorry, thought it was a slang term for emo + music

Gosh, this is why I love you DW.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
And I think I figured out what category of music that would be. Children's music.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Love cause most everyone's been in a bad relationship at one point or another. It's a topic people can identify with.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
Sure! Why not?
This actually makes sense now. The people who most likely are going to become 40-year old virgins like Rush, jazz, instrumental stuff and any music that has lyrics about stuff normal people don't give a crap about (government, society, etc.) and the normal people like music about love, sex, and parties! Woo!
Eh.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
It would seem the former resonates through history better for the most part as well
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Definitely. The latter is far more transient unless it's truly exceptional. Though a few examples really stand out in support of the opposite, like Michael Jackson. He's the big one.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
Yeah and there always will be the exceptions, but it just goes to show that they were the masters of their trade. They stood out above the rest which were the same for lack of a better term
Re: 2010 greatest hits
The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Annette Hanshaw, Green Day, Blink 182... There's a lot more examples. Thing is, what "stands out" is what catches on at the time and then manages to make a long, successful career out of it. Whatever, I'm too tired to argue about this right now. Maybe in the morning...

Wait, you're arguing with me? You are tired, I was agreeing with you and you think I'm trying to have a debate
Re: 2010 greatest hits
See? I'm really out of it. I'm thinking there's debate when there is none. I'm all paranoid at this time of night when I have homework. Heh

But we're having so much conversation! This doesn't happen often anymore where we get a few conversations going almost in RT. Oh the good ol days

I love that song ^ I think they sing that in Elementary schools now.
Normal people? You mean the common people. LOL Though, they do claim to be normal.Philly Homer wrote:Sure! Why not?

Re: 2010 greatest hits
mixing is the best you get zero credit but without a sound tech nothing goes well

I played clarinet and used to sing some a few years ago, wasn't really my thing though, the singing that is. The clarinet on the other hand...well...I truly miss my clarinet
I could argue with thatJtull wrote:mixing is the best you get zero credit but without a sound tech nothing goes well

It's like argueing over who has the best taste in girls, it doesnt work coz we like different things, it's not a fair test.

Re: 2010 greatest hits
in that case I have the best taste in girls. the point is without a sound guy not much is gonna happen you cant just put someone untrained in and get them to do it.
Re: 2010 greatest hits
I've played concerts with no sound tech and where the sound relied on your ability to play well
Re: 2010 greatest hits
Also, what about like the 1700s, when sound gear didn't exist. That's the time era of some of the greatest composers and musicians and they wouldn't have had a sound guy. Yet they're the masters of music essentially
