For you... don't think of it as a need, think of it as an experience to better your understanding of other individuals in order to further your interests....Darkwing wrote:pfft, sociable. I don't need socialising
Same here, but I usually try to mess with people by cracking odd conversation starters. And/or just forcing people out of their comfort zone. Every once in a while I'll find another weirdo I can bounce sly remarks off of, and we have a ball. (I am capable of doing the whole completely polite and attentive gentleman thing, but I get tired of it after a few hours)Philly Homer wrote:I'm an extremely personal kind of person (wow ain't that redundant.) I can basically talk hours on end with complete strangers, but I choke up when speaking in front of a cold, emotionless crowd. Music is different, I got adrenaline when I perform.

I like that...
Ok, but we're going to need a ton of cheese whiz and bucket of jello.....Philly Homer wrote:Someone wanna help me breed dolphins? It'll be fun, I promise
Well, since Shemuel does this kind of stuff all of the time, he'll probably be able to supply at least some of that.
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Nah, I get all I want by sitting back here and observing people, or observing them when I'm at work
Re: You Would be Proud :P
That's just lazy. You can't reap as much information about a person by just observing them. When you interact with them, you can ask the right questions and get the information you really need.Darkwing wrote:Nah, I get all I want by sitting back here and observing people, or observing them when I'm at work
Being able to function in a relationship is a life skill. If you don't develop that function, you won't ever reach your true potential.
Note: I believe that you choose not to enter relationships because you've been hurt in the past, and you can't handle one (also could also be attributed to a mental predisposition). When approached by failure, you break apart like a china dish. Your coping mechanisms are primitive. Part of you wants to shear off this social facade you've draped upon yourself, but the other part of you is terrified of the unknown. And of course, without self-motivation, your survival instincts will forever ride you like a whore on a park bench. (sorry, I couldn't help being vulgar. It was just too tempting.)
Re: You Would be Proud :P
That's OK, I'm not insulted. Though there's something incorrect about that. I enjoy the challenges of failure more so than the successes. I dunno how I could've been hurt in the past, I've never been in a relationship and I quite literally have no desire for one, especially after this week, it's not worth it in my opinion. I interact with people fine, I just never become involved with them
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Everything pertaining to the psyche has a cause, even if it's a chemical imbalance. All humans have the same basic needs, you are no exception.
Perhaps you just enjoy this public persona. The attention is quite good, isn't it? After all, the way you interact with all of us here could be defined as friendship. You claim you don't like commitment, but yet you've ran a forum for 3 years. LOL Well, I guess that could be defined as indirect friendship, but still.... I think all of us are satisfied with that lol.
Note: BTW, I like the fact that you aren't easily offended. I think that's why we have so much fun in conversations/debates like this. We don't take it too personally. Yes, that's ironic sounding in this case, but you know what I mean.

Yeah, we'll just leave it at that cause otherwise he'll get indignant and he'll insist that he's doing it cause he has nothing better to do.
But judging by the way he describes his life, that's kinda true

Re: You Would be Proud :P
I am familiar with Maslow's Hierarchy of needs but do remember, very few ever achieve the complete pyramid. There for, the only essential need is the first, food shelter, water.
And I've been waiting all night for someone to bring up the forum. I have one word: Control. The forum offers a way for me to control an environment, I mean, every human craves some form of control over something, of that we are no exception. In fact, it's the lack of control that fuels most people's insecurities and fears.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
Bull bull bull.
Sure, the forum does give you control, but it also gives you friends. You're lonely, and that's why you read and post. Friendship is your underlying motive.
I know you wont accept that, but it's true. And truth is not based upon perspective, it's concrete.
Goodnight...
I'm glad you had fun screwing with me. LOL

DJ, do remember, I took Media Studies and it isn't me who came up with that. We studied the hierarchy a fair bit. Self Actualization is rarely achieved by the majority of mankind. It's not bull, it's truth, concrete I believe is how you put it.
And if it makes you feel better on the inside to think it's because of friendship, than that's your dream, not mine. Just sayin.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
Aren't these discussions always so amusing? I find it funny how people will try so hard to convince me that I'm wrong, that I need people, you guys aren't the only ones who do it. I'm beginning to think that I'm so different in this sense that people are intimidated by me and can't exactly, I dunno, cope or something with the knowledge, so they try and change it. If you wanted to convince me otherwise, last Wednesday was the day to do it, after Friday though, I'm more stuck in my ways than ever cause now I have physical and legitimate reasons as to why I am who i am. I didn't have that before, just observations and theories, but now it's fact for me and good luck changing that!
Re: You Would be Proud :P
It may be ok for you now, you have friends here and you have family, but what about in a few years time when most of us will have proberlly left here, and later on in life when family pass on and stuff, without friends you'll just start to go mad, like will smith in i am legend, human interaction is a good thing and every person needs it, it's sorta programmed into us. without many friends you could start to suffer from depressions and other stress and lonelyness, you'd become like old people at homes sitting not doing anything all day. I love my little rant things and i actually researched some of this before posting

I'll be doing stuff, I always have stuff to keep me busy. And people always leave, it's a force of nature, it doesn't bother me, I've seen tons of people leave in my life and it doesn't really bother me
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Oh, I'm not saying Maslow's Hierarchy of needs is bull; just your philosophy.Darkwing wrote:DJ, do remember, I took Media Studies and it isn't me who came up with that. But, we can just both stay in our own little worlds, and everything will be fine. LOL
And I agree, these arguments are fun. I just have to go off and deflate my ego every once in a while because of them.

Like I said, it's not my philosophy, it's fact. Very few ever complete the entire hierarchy, I didn't make that up, I have no reason to
Re: You Would be Proud :P
So wait, you're saying it's ok not to reach self-actualization.
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Well, I wonder if anyone here thinks they have reached it....
To be honest, I believe I am on the brink. I just still have a few things to get past. One of them being moving away from home.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
Self-Actualization is a weird one, cause it can never happen to some people, some people think it has happened when it hasn't, others know it's happened and it has and some don't know it's happened when it has. And it can be at any age too which is interesting to note, you don't have to be like 80 years old to realize who you are
Re: You Would be Proud :P
I have achieved self actulization, and i've had someone confirm that i have.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
i wish i knew anything about who i am. Thats most of what i think about. i have arrived at the conclusion that i am my actions. And by that, im not much. i have no hobby's, passions, and a lack of socialization. I am my computer, and i am the homework i do. i am the text i write. Nothing is lasting and all of those things will fade away.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
I would argue that you are more your ideas and thoughts than your actions, because your actions are all based on things that you think, feel and believe. Your actions are just the physical representation of who you are. They're a good starting point, but actions can be misleading.
Re: You Would be Proud :P
That's pretty accurate actually.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
As i 100% agree with you both, i must tell you that i both do and dont agree with what i write. I am writing purely from one perspective i had. This piece does not represent all of what i think on the subject and is the very first part of my next writing peice. It is also probably not going to make it to the final draft.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
I think you will like the final. Its online relese may be delayed beacuse i will be submitting it for publication. if they do an online search to make sure its not plagerism i dont want to have to deal with claiming ownership.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
Though I have a question for you. How do you view your observation abilities? Gift or curse or both?
Re: You Would be Proud :P
A gift. A curse. It depresses me to see the hatred among people but it makes me very happy when i write about it. Which inst often. I only have something to write every once in a while. Usually a couple of months.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
For me it's a curse I think. I have all these observations on human nature and they're definitely used as fuel for the way I see the world and it makes me depressing and depressed. I can get along in the world just fine, yet at the same time I can't. It's an odd problem I know, but I know my observations are definitely making me such that I can't interact with people on anything more than a professional and objective level
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Write about what you see. You dont need to be able to write well (dont worry about spelling, punctuation or anything else). You can get better at writing over time. The next step is to publish the writings on the web. (i would never use one of those author sites where 100's of people post). When you write dont wory about being "deep", just write. "Deepness" comes from emotion (and dont tell me your apathetic. you just said it makes you depressed). Depression is the best thing to write through. All of my work is fueled by depression.
The final and big thing is that you shouldn't care if the world hates your work. Its YOUR work do it anyways. Most of the time people will dislike a piece for no reason other then they like it better then their own. Other times when they say they dont like it when you ask them why they dont have a reason. (much like how people will argue without any facts to back them up)

I don't care about the world and I don't care for the world to see my views, just you guys And I'm always writing Leach, I write tons of shit, scripts, stories, well, not stories so much, but a lot of scripts. Sure, none of them is directly about my views, but they are sorta.
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Then publish them online. I would love to read some of your stuff. (I really love essays about a persons veiw of the world)

Re: You Would be Proud :P
Well I don't write essays, like I said, scripts mostly, generally sci-fi, di try a romance-ish Christmas piece last year, didn't turn out so good, though come to think of it, I have some new content that could go into it should I ever want to resurrect it. And as for publishing, I generally focus more on producing them into films and stuff. Like I said, I never write directly about my views except on here once in a while and you know how cynical and harsh they are.
Re: You Would be Proud :P
Well, either way i love to read about stuff (and fantasy). If you do write an essay type thing directly about your view on a certain subject or the world i want to read it.

Re: You Would be Proud :P
*Sigh* I can see why you don't want any friends, DW. Most people i've met are fucking assholes. Like, for an example, we have this teacher. She's 56 years old, and the entire older generation of her family are falling like flies. She's had the mobile by her side since the first lesson this year so the doctors can call and tell her when someone dies (a whole bunch of them are in the hospital i've heard). She snapped yesterday because no one had the fucking common sense, respect or empathy to listen to what she says and put away their mobiles. She kicked some people out and said some badly chosen words, and now, they're all raging about her. The entire swedish lesson today was basicly them being arseholes about it. The only person with the intelligence and empathy to actually understand that she's going through some rough times, and that she's actually an OK teacher otherwise is the only girl in the class.
God my class are arseholes... There are only 3 people i have respect for in the entire class now, the girl and two friends. Said 2 friends are neutral in the whole situation by the way.

Yeah, our generation really does lack respect, empathy, sympathy and a bunch of other things. It's kinda sad to have to talk down about our own generation of people, but it is the truth

OT: today in history class my teacher started talking about government and crap and to make a long story short, at the end of the class everyone was saying "NUKE SWEDEN!!"
back on topic: maybe it has something to do with those shitty mainstream fps's that everybody in my high school except me is addicted to.
