Re: New Laptop
Thats nothing compaired to the cost i got mine.
(I just got it, so i dont know all of its specifications yet, as i really havent turned it on to look)
13 Inch Screen
Windows 7 Proffesional
300 GB Hard Drive
(I will put better stats for it up later, as i need to figure it out....)
New: $500 (Roughly)(I searched it on best buys for cost)
Refurbished: I have no idea
Got it for: Free
Reason: Its from my school, as i do school online, and it has internet blocks, and i cant put any games on it, or use it for any recreational stuff, and i have to give it back when i am done with it.
Other stuff i got:
A whole kit of stuff relating to school (Pencils, Paper, Compass, Folders, Protractor, everything)
Printer
Backpack (Laptop Backpack thing)
Touch Pad (One of those things that has a pen you can write on)
And some other stuff.

Re: New Laptop
By the way Leach, I've found that windows 7 has been better for my battery life than even the most lighweight of debian-based distros. Must be better driver and chip support.

Re: New Laptop
Thanks shem! And EP, you realize mine is close to 3 times more expensive and even with my amazing discount of 52.75% I still paid more for mine then yours is worth new. Plus if any school is handing out laptops that are 500 new then they're frickin crazy. Why don't you find the specs, or model and manufacturer.

Re: New Laptop
That is nice for the price leach, but the 2GB of ram is holding it back. Are there any slots you can upgrade it with?

Re: New Laptop
The low ram is the only downside, because of the limited stock of refurbished laptops i could not afford to get more. I assume that i can upgrade it.

Re: New Laptop
Well... I really hope you ain't gonna use your laptop for gaming, because... I've experience with that and I tell you: You wanna play, a desktop is better...
Re: New Laptop
That doesnt mean a laptop cant be used for gaming. Mine works very well, and can run most modern games on high settings.

Re: New Laptop
So can mine, did you see the processor? and a decent graphics card. I can use an external screen, and screen size isn't a big deal to me. Its an excellent laptop when you look at all the specs, and i have plenty of ram for me. My PC only has 1 gig and it ran LOTRO just fine.

Re: New Laptop
My computer's specs are great, can technicly run most -2007 games without a problem. But it's got some serious overheating issues, so i'm too scared playing something new will fry it, so i'm stuck with older games. Piece of crap can't even run Civ IV without sounding like it's having a very long death cry.

Re: New Laptop
I doubt that, that might be the zone with the HDD but the CPU contact temp should be much higher.v

Re: New Laptop
Well... It could fry? Anyway, playing SC2, even with medium graphics can be heavy for a laptop... I guess I will get a new tower before buying Legacy of the Void... (yes, I'm going to buy both expansions!^^)...
Re: New Laptop
I am so utterly confused right now. Apparently they're supposed to be in the vicinity of 60-70 degrees, yet you're all complaining that they could fry. This makes no sense to me, it's like an oxymoron, a contradiction.
Re: New Laptop
I fried mine at 126.5C usually it was around 90. i had an older processor, Intell Pentium 4, and it was famous for its high temperature. Most processors should be 60C-70C and fry at 100C-120C

Re: New Laptop
Well... Anything above 90º could be a risk... And games could make a pc go beserk... Go play a game like ME2, SC2 or anything like that... Even your mac would be above local temperature :S
Re: New Laptop
Actually, there are games for macs... In fact my new favourite game of all times runs on Macs also^^ :

Re: New Laptop
I know that. Though I didn't know SC2 could be played on Mac, but games like ME can't. FU can though

Re: New Laptop
My CPU temp is now 51 degrees celsius. I am using an apparently well-respected monitor thingy call Everest as well as what I already have on my system.
