Whether you believe it's altruism or people just giving away money they won't miss, the fact remains that that is a lot of money. Hell, Warren Buffett is planning to give away 99% of his fortune. Good on Bill Gates and Warren Buffett convincing a bunch of other rich folk to do this.

Hopefully all this money is well-focused and goes toward actually improving things around the world. I'm going to be pissed if, say, all of it goes toward feeding people in the middle of nowhere. They're probably giving enough to basically buy all the 3rd world countries 10 times over, so I expect actual results.

I'm lost for words, i know many of theese will not miss the money and will earn it back, but that is extremly generous and if it is used properly it would do alot of good.

I really have no idea what this could be used to do... The reason third world countries are, well, third world countries probably has more to do with social problems than it has to do with something that can be fixed with money... But i guess building some infrastructure and hoping the people don't blow it up is always good.

I'm thinking more about having everybody switch to renewable energy and removing dependency on oil. Unties everybody's hands in regard to the Middle East and help sustain the planet. THAT would be a good focus for the money right?

I really, freaking, hope so. The US has been shitting out pollution, i hope they'll replace all that coal shit you have with something less likely to rape mother nature in the bum... Or even better, why not invest all that money in hydrogen fuel resarch? Might give the planet a little more time. If the oil industry doesn't step in and sabotage everything that is.

That's the only problem. The oil companies have all the power. But yeah, just imagine. Induction charging based cars that sip off cables you install in the middle of the road? Awesome.

yeah, when we studied third world countries in global history, one of the largest problems that arise from using money to fix these countries is that the money never gets to the hands of people but to the governments in control who then use the money to buy themselves nice cars and drugs. The governments usually won't allow the money to be given to the people directly for these reasons as well.

Do you want to know why these people are giving away there money, they want america's government to stop complaning its poor,i am sick of it to, i would give away my money if it ment the government would shut up and lower taxes.

Do you understand how high taxes are here, america doesent understand that the more money they print, the less the valuse of the dollar is....

How many percent? We've got an income tax set at 30%, and buying a small basket of food essentials costs about as much as running the infrastructure of a small nation for a year or two (not really... but they're high, like, 400 SEK for a basket of essentials high).

i dont really know our income tax rate here, but our general tax is 15% on every dollar

I really doubt living in the US is nearly as expensive as living here, and it just keeps getting more and more expensive. Food is expensive as freaking hell, and taxes are incredibly high. Losing 30% of all income isn't especially fun.

Besides, your gov needs the money to keep the weight of that massive blob of guns and high tech equipment from crushing it. And, for some reason, to keep it expanding...

And don't forget... they pay gas at 1 dollar per gallon! We pay 1€/l for petrol, so...
