Takin Things To Seriously
For kicks I looked through the trash can and the old general chat to try and identify what it was that made those days better back in 2008 and I think I got it. It's pretty simple and it's simply that we take things too seriously now. There's tension, minor grudges of sorts. We just used to have good ol fun on here chattin about things and not worrying about opinions or snapping at someone or getting angry cause they didn't have the same opinion. We had the people we made fun of, but it was all in good stride and for the most part not hurtful and everybody found it funny.
Now we take things too seriously and too personally (and I'm not the only one). We used to post a whack of nonsensical topics or things that had no real relevance and wouldn't worry about being judged for it or something.
Personally, I just hope it isn't too late to go back. That we haven't ruined our relations with each other because of things over the last year.

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
Ruin things? I think not, and if ever I ruined my relationship with someone was probably my fault or the presumption that it is not convinced and want to hear the opinions of others.
To be honest I hope that nobody has much care, but if they cared, i apologize.
More people were probably guilty of this, but I'll let them speak for themselves ...

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
Really? I honestly don't see any of this, minus the opinions part (which, regretfully, I have taken part in.) Everything seems fine to me, but then again I did disappear for a good half year or so. Maybe I'm just out of it or something.

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
It just seems that people are a bit more at people's throats then they used to be (and this is more than just me). I mean we even tolerated and were fairly polite to the annoying members of the forum back then, now we seem almost boderline flaming IMO
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
yeh i see what you mean with the flaming thing but i think that's just one of those things thatcan be meant in a light hearted way but can seem rather harsh due to it being text rather than verbal
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
well, like i said, we could do it before and it be understood as a joke, but now arguments form and whatnot
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
I agree. Before we did not want to know the opinions of others, but now, can you see in a while, either ask your opinion about what others think, another one makes occasional tantrum (guilty), that others are to enjoy these actions with whom makes and the moderator just let the thing go, without trying to stop and prevent other people from getting hurt ... It is well that sometimes they take action, but most times they do not know what to do ... And also that the other most often do not arrive on time because they have their personal life (which I encourage to continue and not stopped because of a website) ...
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
i dont see much of this either, when most of the threads we make go OT i dont think we are being "too serious."
and at least we can voice our opinions without them getting modded to death

To be honest, everything was pretty boring back then... Now we can freely talk about shit like dolphin sex and not have swears filtered out. It's the freedom of speech (HAH!) that's so liberating and it's made this place all the better for it.

I'm not talking about that so much. I mean ya, we're allowed to be loser, it's just members seem more hostile towards each other now. And for being pretty boring back then, our activity was really good, like really good, so people must have been interested in something back then

You never really appreciate things until they are gone. I, being the optimist, say there's still a chance that the forum can become what it once was again, in time. You never know.
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
that's because you're only privvy to certain knowledge. You can't see what's happening behind the scenes

You see, you're talking as if you've been here when we had MT and all those little characters. I certainly don't long for the days that we had to put up with people like that douchenozzle. I don't want he forum to go back to the way it was because we had to rely on BM3 to draw people to come here. 100 times out of 10, they ultimately didn't stay because they were just here for that and showed no interest in the community. Now we don't have anything like that and we're avoiding the extremely angsty, self-important kids that think they're the shit.
TLDR, the past was good but you're avoiding the little annoyances that were there too. Yeah we're all more hard-headed and opinionatd, but in the long run can you really say that's a bad thing?

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
....yes.
and yeah, before we were getting all the FT weirdos, now we just don't have anybody and one by one we're losing our active members.

Maybe I should just leave again since you don't like opinions. This time I won't be coming back either!

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
might as well.
i'm kidding, just my humour isn't very funny and is usually depressing. that's probably because i'm depressing in general.

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
that is disappointing about BM3 though. 3 years of work which resulted in nothing
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
it might not im mean you can always go back and finish it if the situation ever arises
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
that most likely won't happen for a very long time. Me having the Adobe programs is a long way off
Re: Takin Things To Seriously
Well, you could always pirate them or-
Oh wait, never mind.

Re: Takin Things To Seriously
actually, I almost did to photoshop, but between morals, lack of knowledge in the torrent system and difficulty in finding mac versions, I didn't

Hrrm... Sure as hell didn't see any appreciation for that in the election between me and DW... *Goes off mumbling*
But you know what? It's much better like this. We've filtered all the jackasses, and we only have the good regulars and a few good newbies left. If people weren't leaving, things would be great. But unfortunately, we completely failed to keep the last batch of newbies that argent brought here, including argent. And activity will probably hit rock bottom when the summer holidays end because people will have so much to do... Like shem going to university.
