World in Conflict review
Well... I've kicked men of war off the review series and replaced it with world in conflict. And since i lack the motivation to finish the CIV4 review, i'm going to do this one instead.
To be finished by tomorrow.

World in conflict is an RTS (or more like RTT for Real Time Tactical) game for the PC. It was developed by the swedish studio Massive entertainment and published by Sierra (Now Ubisoft... RIP Sierra...). It tells the story of Lieutenant Parker (the player, who later becomes Captain Parker), Captain Mark Bannon, Captain Webb, Colonel Jeremiah Sawyer and the NATO forces during the invasion of the western world (and NATO's allies) by the soviet union and their allies.

Story
World in conflict raises a very good question... What if the diplomatic talks had failed, and the soviet union had decided to go all out instead of whimpering down and dying from within? What if the berlin wall had not fallen at the hands of berliners, but at the hands of the huge tank armies of the soviet union?
This has been explored on different levels in film, literature and some games (although these games are few and far between) since the late 1950's, so the story can feel a little cliched. But the story really shines when it comes to execution. Massive has managed to turn a cliched story into a jewel capable of competing with most similar movies and leaving all RTS games i've played (other than homeworld 1 and 2, of course...) far behind in the story department.
Unlike most media with the same story, world in conflict tries to show you the war on more than one level. You get to see it from a strategic level, a tactical level and a personal level. The strategic level is the things you learn from looking at the strategic map and through some things the narrator says. The personal level is shown during the cutscenes and sometimes

Or actually... Never mind. The review series has been cancelled, this has been cancelled and the CIV4 review has been cancelled. Or at the very least postponed indefinitely.
