M was sort of the one that got people talking, even if some of his posts were more oriented to insulting someone's intelliegence.. but I haven't seen him in a long time.. Alkanosis.. he was another good person to have around.. He kept the peace sometimes.. And DJ... worse? okay keep him away.. xD

I really doubt an SAS officer would act like that. A normal officer has to be something more than a human, and that's for the normal army. Imagine how an SAS officer would have to be. It's not like a 13 year old, that's for sure.

More than human?

You mean, less, right?

SAS officers kill people for a living.

Our consciences are what makes us human. When we bypass them, we're putting aside everything that we are deep down inside, and therefore becoming less humane.

Justified murder > Ignorance of morals > lack of humanity

Our consciences are one of those things that bashes evolution in the face.
If survival of the fittest is truly an unbreakable rule of nature, than we would all be self-important psychopaths with no emotional instincts. (Except pain and continuation of the human race of course)
It's funny though, because many people in this world do act like self-important psychopaths! If I didn't believe in God, I'd probably believe in reverse evolution. LOL!

Dang, I got off topic.... Anyways.....

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'd have to agree with both you and DW about his behavior. It's not typical of an officer at all.

Well, if i can pass the initial tests, i'm becoming an officer. So i guess that makes me less of a human.

There's a difference between killing innocent civilians and a bunch of extremists who have spent a little too much time inhaling the thin mountain air for the good of their brains. The difference is, the civilians have no intent to harm anyone. The extremists on the other hand want to kill as many of those they dont think deserve living (which happens to be pretty much everyone except them and the less extremist followers of their religion)

I think it's noble to want to risk your life to save a crapload of others. Also, i was saying they're more than human psychologicly. I mean, can you stay calm under fire? Or even harder, remember a bunch of numbers under fire?

@ JBp i doubt your father has killed a man. Or 10. Or 100. Or been shot at. Or been through the training required to join the special forces. Or seen what most SAS officers who have been to afghanistan or iraq have seen.

That guy was definitely not an officer. Or a soldier at all. He was probably just a screwed up kid.

I see your point, when it comes to the morals.

But the bible says that murder is wrong, so I can't say that murder can be justified.

But as far as becoming more than human....

I get what you're saying, but "becoming more than a man" is simply a phrase used to make the idea of becoming a solider sort of like a romantic storybookish fantasy. (You can have halo and COD, and all of the war movies you've ever seen to thank for that. Oh, and Ernest Hemmingway.) All it is is training.

The military will teach you that you are a higher form of human being.
This is made evident in how they refer to non-military humans as civilians.

(Yes, this is done for security purposes, but it does help to reinforce the superiority complex.)

But you are still just a man.

But you are still just a man.

That's a very simple moral system... So, if the bible says something is wrong, it's wrong no matter the circumstances?

Let's say your family were hit hard by the financial crisis. You are kicked out on the street, you have litterally 0 income and no food. There is also no one to give you food or money. The logical thing to do here would be to steal some food so you dont starve to death, but the bible says stealing is wrong. Do you just lay down on the ground and wait for death? Or do you go and steal something to eat?

Or let's say a psycho breaks into your house and clearly wants to kill someone. In this case, you and your family. You are holding a gun/sword/ whatever effective weapon you can find. Do you kill him before he kills you or do you just lay down and pretend it's raining because the bible told you it's wrong to kill someone?

You know, morals are a little more advanced than ''kill a thousand orphaned kittens with a flamethrower then pis´s on their bodies or build a kitten orphanage for said kittens.''

And yes. The military acts as if they're superior to the civilians at times, but are they not partly right? The average soldier is definitely stronger than the average civilian both psychologicly and physicly. And they are the ones tasked with defending us. But that's not to say they're better than us in every way, we have different skills to compensate for that, and to be honest, most civilians arent as morally dead as the average experienced soldier.

If i join up, it wont be because of a (poorly made) game or because i've had too many war movies. Or because i want to be ''better'' than the average civilian. To understand why i want to join up, you would need to know more about me than anyone here does.

I believe that the bible is very reasonable.

But as far as stealing for food...

If it happens, God would probably understand, but as a Christian, I know that he would provide for me in such dire circumstances.

And if he doesn't, I know that death isn't a permanent state.

I have faith in a resurrection, and I know that Jehovah can take away all memories of suffering.

(Rev. 21:4)

Hey, if you want to join the military, that's your decision.

I just know that the nations that are in place in the world today will be destroyed, and my allegiances only go to my God.

We all can only do what we know to be right.
