How do you think the Sonic Screwdriver works?

Re: Dr who Tech V2
huzzah finally another chance to write out a really long idea. lol
right well I think it uses audio modulated bursts of hypersonic sound-waves to oscillate the component or device in question to force it to do what the operator intends.

Re: Dr who Tech V2
I like the idea of compressed, high-frequency sound waves to manipulate mechanisms, but yet it also seems to be able to manipulate electricity, at least in the newest series. Can't explain that really.
Then when you bring in the idea of The Master's laser screwdriver, electricity manipulation seems more feasible, but then I'm not sure what a fantasy explanation would be for physical manipulation.

Re: Dr who Tech V2
if you adjust the resistance of a metal then you can guide electricity down a different path. well.... sort of. but perhaps by ionizing the gas near a electrical source you could create a current path.
Re: Dr who Tech V2
I think it's this imaginary thing that the scriptwriter used to fill plotholes, eg: "Ahaha! But I can use the sonic screwdriver to save us!"
But that's just a guess.

Re: Dr who Tech V2
I think that's the most correct guess so far.

Re: Dr who Tech V2
they do that all the time in trek, but they still have so many plot holes.
Anyways Jtull, explain how he travels backwards in time.

Re: Dr who Tech V2
ooh this is actualy very simple no different to going forwards.
lord rassilon made the web of time. this is kinda like a huge matrix of tunnels through time and space when the TARDIS is in there I think it uses magnetic engines to push it self through the vortex. really backwards and forwards are the same. the difference is in the relative time to galifray when traveling backwards the vortex looks blue and forwards it looks red.
