I know most of us here already know about this, but I still found this to be interesting.

ah, gotta love good old unrealistic, ludicrously expensive, unnecessary and ridiculous projects of the US Army.

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
I heard they once spent like a half million dollars to fund an arctic expedition to find out if they needed to defend Earth against alien invaders. It was cancelled because the pilot got sick.

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
It can save millions of lives but the guy is right... i do alot of things in games that i would never do in real life, like kill people. Not seeing the captive from up close could make it alot easier to kill him

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
this will just make wars more and more like "I have more money so I win" not like old warfare that was actualy about skill and tactics.
Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
Well, you may say that, but from their standpoint, they're shaping the future of warfare.me naam is m wrote:ah, gotta love good old unrealistic, ludicrously expensive, unnecessary and ridiculous projects of the US Army.
Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
Essentially they are. They're trying to enhance stealth, defense, and robotic automation to make everything deadlier and more effective whilst lowering the casualty rates.

on one side that is.
Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
Well, yeah. If you have a vast technological superiority over the other side, I think you would rain death upon them and not the other way around...

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
this is why I prefure the napolionic battles. they were more about the people doing the work rather than the tech. ( navy battles were about tactics and fire power thats why I love sailing)
Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
Exactly! those wars that took millions of people in only a year or so! werent those lovely days... muuuuch worse than the free world (which is the richest at the time) having the technological edge over the rest of the world (china, north korea iran and other wanna be superpower dictatorships) and keeping the world safe.
But seriously, non sentient things blowing eachother up wont hurt anyone. Unlike thousands of people fighting eachother to the death.
And napoleonic battles werent about tactics, it was just put the ships in a battle row and see which one doesnt get blown to pieces. Today's battles are all about tactics and stealth, they're more sophisticated and alot less bloody.

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
umm. you are thinking about the big battles like trafalgar. I am talking about the little un recorded skirmishes.
yes the new warfare is complex and "steathy" but I think its slightly cowardly

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
cowardly, maybe but cowardice and such in war is just stupid. It'll get more people killed. It's useful for soldiers that fight on foot but sending several hundred people at eachother is just dumb. It's better to be able t osend a drone to kill those terrorists or whatever

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
well anyway no matyter how advanced the military robots get i garantee humans will still be fighting on the frontline.
and dont forget about the people the hundreds of millions of people that will loose jobs and even worse due to bigger more powerfull weapons thanks to robots millions of people wil loose livees

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
Not really. In a few more decades, scientists could actually produce logic centers for their robots. They could fight on their own. Also, If you can direct a large group of robots to do one thing, you only need one man. If war was like a video game, with controllers safely at home, than yes. You would need at least one person for each robotic soldier.

Re: Military Robots - The Future of War
@ Jtull if you like napoleonic battles and have a good computer or can stand bad graphics, you should get empire: total war. It's set in the napoleonic era
