Re: Ze Chat Foools!
Difference between forget and ignore And even still, the reason I;m going to university and spending in the rough vicinity of 30+ thousand dollars is to learn and get degree, I'm not gonna waste my money on socializing, the degree is primary, anything else, irrelevant.

No but I wouldn't spend 30,000 on a miserable three years either.

Re: Ze Chat Foools!
But if it bought you the rest of your life? See that's how I see it, by purchasing these "miserable" 4 years, I'm in actuality purchasing the rest of my life. Without these next few years, I would have very little chance at a career that makes more than minimum wage with acceptable work loads.

DW, don't forget mah letter.
I also got a "free" sony erricson xperia x8 aswell, yea not to bad.
I'm going to pay in excess of £29,000 for my university courses

Ouch, this year was the last intake of students at £3000 tuition fees, wasn't it? But if you have a low income, hopefully you'll pay less with grants and suchlike. Living in Wales or Scotland is better though

But by purchasing your "miserable" 4 years, you can also create a network of people who you'll be in contact with for the rest of your life. Don't know what kind of degree you're getting, but knowing the right people is a very important thing. Not even friends (though it's preferable,) just acquaintances with whom you might play golf every now and then and do business with.

Re: Ze Chat Foools!
Well yes obviously, I'm not discounting that or saying I won't by any means. Networking is extremely important. In my mind, socializing is a different thing. I fail to see how getting shitfaced once a week will better my life.
Re: Ze Chat Foools!
Did you guys apply for any scholarships? They help quite a bit. You don't have to be coming out of high school to get any either, so I'm sure anyone can get some money.
And about the whole friend situation that we talk a lot about: I find more reliable friends at work than at school. Plus you don't have to pay to go to work. Win/win

Yeah, I've got a scholarship, but they're not as common over here. The student loan is always very enticing - many who take one out will never have to pay anything back.

You know i hated school when i was there but now when i look back i ask myself why didn't i try harder why did i take every opportunity to miss classes or not do homework? I don't know wether it's to do with me actually doing education that i want to do and therefore i am more intrested in it or i have hit the level of maturity where you do look back and reflect hopefully even learn from the past and the value of education. There are millions of people in poorer 3rd world countries and even some in our own that would give anything to have the ability to go to school and learn. So please don't moan about it, it is what will decide the rest of your future. (apart from EMA and university fee's you can moan about them rabble rabble rabble)

Weird...it's almost the exact opposite here. Take a student loan and you will ultimately end up paying double the tuition simply due to interest as it will take years to pay back the loan.

Well if you get yourself a proper student loan I think the interest is really low less rhan1% in some cases

It is a proper student loan. I could take a bank loan and the interest would be even higher, but this is a proper, government funded, loan solely for students. The one difference between our two countries seems to be we actually have to pay the loan back and you guys don't (dunno how it's a loan if you don't pay it back)
Re: Ze Chat Foools!
England
You only begin to start paying back after you begin earning over a certain amount - currently 9% of everything earned above £15,000 a year.
Bear in mind the interest is only in line with inflation, so your debt won't increase as time goes on like a bank loan.
Anything outstanding after 25 years is dropped.
Oh, and it tends to be nicely reduced if you move overseas.
Next year, when Lee starts, everything gets tweaked. However, it's too complicated to be able to say he'll be worse or better off.

Re: Ze Chat Foools!
We have to start paying it back the moment we finish school. So I could continue taking university and whatnot for 10 years and wouldn't pay a cent until I finally finish

I personally see the labor you provide for the country (and by extension the government) as more than enough repayment for whatever money you may borrow from the government for uni. Cause, you know, college graduates are pretty valuable.

Well, y'know, like all retail giants, the government is trying to get s much money as it can

Re: Ze Chat Foools!
We will pay beyond £15,000 and you will pay beyond £21,000 (this for you will actually change. The threshold will be adjusted to always be the average income).
And despite the commotion, you could actually pay less, Lee. The higher threshold, and also lower repayments, mean you could well do better, depending upon your personal circumstances. (This page is quite a useful resource)

Yeah. Have a look at the link I put, at least you'll be able to understand it in principle then.
Next year, you should apply as early as possible because they usually have huge backlogs.

Well I might be going to college this year...maybe next. Either on an 4 year game design course, or an 3 year Uniformed service course.

Don't do games design at college you'll get nowhere your better off doing a genreal it/coding course then specialising once your at uni at least then you have your A-levels to fall back on as the games industry is hard to get into although people think it's simple.
