AVG does scan e-mails and if you really want it to, you could scan when you start up. I think that's dumb though since if you have a hard drive as big as mine, means it will take awhile.

It does scan emails, but Avast is more configurable.

For example, I can set the scanning level of files received via IMs to ‘low’ since I know the files I receive are from trusted people.

And I can set scanning of P2P files to ‘high’, and HTTP Web traffic scanning to ‘Normal’. I don’t think AVG does that.

Updating with Avast is better also.

Avast checks servers for updates every 4 hours, or even less than that if you want it to.

AVG, on the other hand, has a primitive updating system and checks for viruses only once a day.

If you happen to miss an update, you’ll have to wait till the next day to download new definitions.

Oh, I used it on my grandpa's computer.

And, he's still using it.

Why do you ask?

What, does the AVG free version scan for updates throughout the day now?

And, what about the security preferences? Are they different/better now?

I think that is good, but I prefer my self-created protection software over another person's because I'm self-centered. Razz
