JPB's absence
Hi, guys...
I'm here to tell you that JPB18 will be indefinitely absent from this forum due to some technical difficulties...
His computer is experiencing some viral activity, and so, while that viral activity is destroyed, JPB won't be able to access the web, and won't be able to post...
(Which means:
His computer has virus and he won't be able to come here...)

Re: JPB's absence
Do you know what antivirus software he has? What about the name of the virus? Can I help?
Re: JPB's absence
Yes, I know...
I have no idea, he just asked me to tell you that he would be gone for a while, and told me the reason...

Re: JPB's absence
hi, im writing in a work pc in my dad job. I've read the previous posts and I must say a few things:
1st i don't know what virus are but I know that the AVG 7.5 (which last update was 2 days before the ocurrence) detected 2 virus and 2 trojan horses and the ad-aware (which last update was about 250 days before the ocurrence) detected around120 ad-awares, but my pc still say that there is a virus.
2nd i will try to connect my pc to the net to update the ad-aware.
And thats all I got to say.

Re: JPB's absence
Shouldn't AVG have sorted that? Anyways, good luck.

Re: JPB's absence
maybe it's one of them ones where you actually have to go and delete it manually, i've had a few of those
Re: JPB's absence
Good. If you find out the name of the virus, I might be able to help.JPB18 wrote:in fact, I put them in quarentine.
Let's also think about prevention:
1. Do you use Firefox? Note: If you use IE, then that explains everything.
2. Do you scan your emails?
3. Attachments?
4. Downloads in general?
5. Do you visit naughty websites?
6. Do you have your firewall enabled?
7. Do you have something better than windows firewall? (I have comodo. It's the best, and it's free.)
Re: JPB's absence
now im writting on a psp, as i'm now at home.
1st, I use firefox.
2nd, my pc scans the mails automaticly.
3rd, I always save the attachments and then scan them.
4th, only from safe sources.
5th: NO
6th, I only have the windows firewall.
I changed the anti-virus from AVG to the one recomended by my service supplier which is called net-secure from a company called F-Secure.
And by the way DJ, do you work for a company related to the net?

Re: JPB's absence
I've already cleaned my pc but, it still acuses the existence of virus.
Also, some system parts are missing. Might the computer still thinking that the virus is still present duo to the lack of those parts?

Well, you said you quarantined the virus. I suggest you delete it, if you can. Man, I wish I was there to help in person.
If your computer turns into a piece of crap, tell me. DON'T take it to the so called "professionals" first. Most of the time, all they
do is erase your hard drive to fix the problem. YOU CAN DO THAT YOURSELF!
I case it does turn to jello, do you have a backup disk/s?
Re: JPB's absence
BACKUP DISKS?! no.
I already deleted the AVG's quarentine virus with the avg and my new antivirus deleted all virus, spywere and riskwere items.
But if i have a copy of XP, and in the instalation part select repair, it makes the same thing as a backup this, right?

Re: JPB's absence
If you have the installation CDs of all your programs, you should be okay. Remember to save all personal files somewhere else also

No, that's just a backup of your OS. I'm talking about a hard drive back disk/s.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE A HARD DRIVE BACKUP!!!!
Re: JPB's absence
No... Never did it. Never think I would have an virus on my pc.
And by the way, it's supposed that the "all programs" part on the "start" menu and the main memory (C drive) disapear?

Re: JPB's absence
Well only the shortcut is missing, as the antivirus still detect the C drive, and if I change the "start" menu to the classic one, I have acess to the "all programs" thing.
Re: JPB's absence
Wow, that was a pretty malicious virus! Do you have alot of important info. on your computer?

Re: JPB's absence
Not really, I'm only trying to save a few fotos, music and some schoolworks.
EDIT: As the virus and his friends did cut my net connection my antivirus programs can't get the updates, so, when I find the OS instalation CD, I am going to kill that virus once and for all!
