Flash Trek
Dunno why, maybe the weather, but I suddenly felt nostalgic, felt like going back and reviewing Flash Trek a little. It's kinda weird really because FT was the rage of internet flash games and for some reason seemed to die when BM3 died. I mean there's been people attempt to make the plethora of bad mods known as sequels but they don't get much attention.
It's just weird because there used to be so much interest. I actually just looked up Broken Mirror 3 on Google (never did that before). I never knew there was a wiki questions thread about the game
But it is hard to believe, it's been 2 years since BM3 came to a halt and like I said, maybe it's the weather, but I got this strange urge to try and make an FT game again, except the same problem still exists and it's that I don't have Flash and probably by the time I do, I'll be in university with no time to make anything.

Re: Flash Trek
Ha ha, love it! Though assuming I did have flash suddenly, I kinda have to re-learn everything, I can't even remember how to properly write an onClipEvent action
Re: Flash Trek
That happened to me about a week ago when the newbies posted in the archives section(Where did these newbies go, anyway? they come for 2 days and never come back? NOT GOOD!)and i saw all the old FT stuff. I even played a game of the original BM and of When Universes Collide. It would be pretty sweet if you could work on BM3 again, not to mention the activity boost that will definitely happen. Also, if there's a backup/source out there, you wouldn't have to re-start it, you could modify a few things and continue from where you left off all those years ago...

The game is the original reason i came to the site! But your right, it would be a pain to code.

Would be even more awesome, if he used updated Sprites, so it actually looks good.

Re: Flash Trek
@Vedic, oh yeah, I actually have a design style in mind for everything, but it would get a major graphical overhaul.
@Shem I don't think so yet, or at least nothing as complex as a BM game.
Also, I think I'd really toy with the notion of coding this game from scratch, perhaps expand upon ideas from Flash Trek Galaxies

Re: Flash Trek
See, the thing I would do would be different than everyone else. In retrospect, what everyone does when they mod or make a flash trek game is they go for adding more ships, more stuff. I think this time round, I'd go for less, but done well. For instance, limiting the player to only a couple types of ships so that you could have things like properly firing weapons that don't just come from the center, upgrades to your ship, things of that nature.
Re: Flash Trek
Proper Firing Arcs...Nice [EDIT] ok didn't read your post properly there....
and i agree there were way to many Ships in BM.

Re: Flash Trek
I think it would be better to have only a few ships that were well done with things like proper firing arcs, maybe even the option for a Bridge Commander-esque style where you can control your ship from the "bridge" so your view is actually out of a viewscreen
Re: Flash Trek
That would require some hardcore Coding.

Re: Flash Trek
It would, but I also don't think it would be as hard as it seems as long as the ships were the right size. See that's why you'd limit it to only a few ships, simply because the weapons don't all line up
Re: Flash Trek
So i guess your going for an "Realistic" feel to the game...no Borg Rape Weapons for any more.

I think you are approaching the border of Flash and then more powerful languages... (Java, C#, C++, etc...)

Re: Flash Trek
I actually asked my friend of mine a few weeks ago if he was willing to make some kind of ST based game. He's 12 and he knows full Java and HTML o.o but yeah good to see BM3 might be coming back!

Re: Flash Trek
As long as you get the hype up on the interwebs, we'll get a load of new people here. But it's good to hear that you're thinking about starting it up again. You could always screw college payments, and get flash, because its not like you'll be paying them off for a decade anyway.

well if it does get started keep at it. I never finish anything usually because I lose interest in it.

Re: Flash Trek
Yeah, I guess it shows people still want to see new along the lines of Flash Trek, it's just nobody is doing new!
Thing is, even if I did have access to Flash now, it would still take years to make a game like this, especially with me starting university in the fall. Of course I do intend to buy an academic version of Production Suite (CS5) once I have a student ID, but that may not be until the fall

Yeah. And i would learn flash coding if i had the time but/ im already busy as it is. Ill stick to Java next year.

Re: Flash Trek
Of course the question is, even if I took Vedic's route to obtaining Flash, do I really have the time to embark on such a project which does include re-learning Flash to a degree

Re: Flash Trek
Yeah ratings will defiantly climb. Plus this will be the final end to the series and maybe even an end to the endless people wanting to make another BM. I had someone the other day talking about a BM8.

Re: Flash Trek
The thing is it's not that popular in some ways. Like a brand new Broken Mirror that is that, new, that would be popular, but these mods have people utterly tired with BM and Flash Trek in general
Re: Flash Trek
Galaxy-Scarface wrote:BM8!? BLOL! where's BM 5, BM6, and BM7?
BM5 was been made by a guy called Skembri as was BM6 both destined for failiure. I heard a guy called Federation01 from vex's forum was making BM7.
Re: Flash Trek
Tbh I doubt he even got anything ready. Like most new BM's after Bm3 there ideas that barley or don't take off. I consider there to be two BM's 1 and 2 and 3 if/when it's finished.
Re: Flash Trek
Well considering every successful flashtrek game has had the support of Lord Vex BM3 should come up thumbs.
Re: Flash Trek
Well, one would hope
Though I definitely learned some lessons from the old BM3 and one of them is if I tackled BM3 again, I would have everything planned out, storyline, characters, ships, stats, all of it planned before any coding even begins

Re: Flash Trek
Good idea That's one of the main reasons I never finish any of my projects. No actual plan I just make it as it comes.

It also is a great way for people to become involved in the project, regardless of whether or not they have flash or know coding or any of thatGamerang wrote:Good idea That's one of the main reasons I never finish any of my projects. No actual plan I just make it as it comes.
