"Tropa de Elite 2" Review

Portuguese title: “Tropa de Elite 2 – Agora o Inimigo é outro”

English title: “Elite Squad 2”

This movie taken to the bottom is about the corruption on the Brazilian government. Using the story of BOPE, a special police corps (equivalent to the American SWAT), and it’s commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Roberto Nascimento (Wagner Moura), this story goes down to the bottom of corruption, where drug dealers and militias/mafia fight to control the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Seeing that the corruption had taken power of the National Security Department, and goes up to the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto has no other choice but to imitate the footsteps of his dead second in command, Captain André Matias (André Ramiro), and to clash head-on with the government. With the help of a popular human right activist in the government, deputy Diogo Fraga (Irandhir Santos), Colonel Nascimento fights the corruption and faces a plot to end his life and everyone related to him.

This movie possesses a great story, which shows the reality of Brazil, mixed up with fictional elements. The actors had a great performance and it revealed in the quality of the movie. The movie itself showed the terrible reality and often pointed to well known facts to weapons fanactics, but not so well known by regular people, like the entry and exit hole of the 7.62 mm NATO round, while at the same time, showing some of the known tactics used by drug dealers, militias and corrupt polititians.

All in all, I would give this movie 9 out of 10.
