Ununti or w/e it's called
Ok So i'm been thinking for a while of changing my OS to Ununtu(I've no idea what's it's name is so i can't spell it right)
But I need a no BS answer to whether this is better for my computer, and how do i install it, if i don't have an DVD-R drive.
Here's my sepcs
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3
CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.4 GHz
RAM: 479 MB
Video Card: SiS 661FX/GX Mirage Graphics
(got the specs of Game Booster, From Iobit)

Depends, what do you primarily use your PC for? Are you a gamer? Are you someone who does a lot of graphical things? Are you just an internet surfer and text document user?
Re: Ununti or w/e it's called
Well more GFX/Text Doc/Internet.
PC gaming doesn't do it for me.

Your CPU is very high compared to your RAM. Unless it's been refurbished, I advise checking again on its specs.
With no CD sot, is it a netbook/sma aptop, or (presumably) just very old?
I advise trying it out a bit first on a live CD/ live USB. It'll be a little bit slower than when fully installed, but there''s no hassle to undo anything if you change your mind.
If you do GFX, then check out what alternatives there are (if any) on linux (ubuntu). Honestly, my advice is that it's not worth your while switching over unless tinkering with computers for hours on end genuinely interests you.
You may get some speed increase with linux, but the consequence is a steep learning curve and no going back unless someone takes you through the steps of dual-booting. I've done this stuff without help, but I can't recommend it.

Yeah, I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows ages ago and I've used it maybe 5 times. It's actually not that hard to use, but you gotta actually have a use for it. You have to be willing to basically use second grade freeware software for the most part and all in all, my Mac still gets my attention.
Re: Ununti or w/e it's called
Most stuff was there for me, but I don't use iTunes, Photoshop or any video editing software. There are always letdowns in terms of hardware support though.
To be honest, I restrict my linux use to stop myself from going down the slippery slope of geekdom.
