I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Will a machine beat out the greatest Jeopardy champions? We'll have to see this Wednesday.

I saw the special on Nova. Man, it was good! They even explained how some of the "machine learning" algorithms work. I highly suggest you watch it. (If you get that show. Here in the states it's on PBS)
This is really a milestone in software engineering!

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
I think most Nova programs are hosted online on the Nova website, but I'm not sure, it at least used to be that way
Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Watson, yeah, not as impressive as i thought it was going to be, i saw that jepardy episode earlyer, but its still pritty cool
Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Update:
Yep, Watson won!
Now it's predicted that Watson's technology will probably be used in hospitals for use in medical diagnostics within 2 years.
Dang, hello star trek computers!
----------------------------------------------
Oh, and DW is right about Nova episodes being online, here's the link if you want to see the episode:

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
I was dissapointed it recived the question through a text instead of having to take the voice recognition, that would have been nice to see it have to listen to him before answering the question, though sometimes Watson slipped up and put a compleatly wierd answer, it still had hundreds of gigs of data to back its decisions, i think it was alittle unfair, but its still cool, i cant want to have the watson computer system incorperated into the regular computers, alot faster searches.
Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Humanity just got dominated.
I hope they'll continue developing Watson. He's still got a few rough edges.

Ok, who the hell keeps giving EP negative rep for no reason? It's like, he gets negative rep anywhere he posts, no matter what he says.

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
OK, I'm gonna spend the time to learn how to remove the negative rep button, allowing users to only give positive rep or no rep at all

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Yes and unfortunately here as well. It would be nice to think we're a small community of the good people, but guess even that is just too much hope
Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Well, even good people can be rough around the edges. Or just immature, in this case.

IDK, I've only given him a negative once, or maybe twice.
Here, I gave him a plus on that post. Why did someone neg him there? It was a good post.
Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Who the hell would do that thing...
there! from the first time I used the rep system! I made him go from -5 to -2

-5 to -2? Does that mean 5 people disliked him?

It means 5 of his posts got negative rep. Some were for a good reason, some were just trolling.

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Well, not necessarily, see it's an overall thing, like this:
I get +3 for a post let's say, then on another post I get -1 that brings me to 2, say I get +5 for a really good post, that brings me up to 7 and so on and so forth. So that doesn't mean he's had 5 negative posts, it means between the + an - he's at -5

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
Fixed it at expense of JPB losing a point in rep in the Where are you thread But yeah, you can now only vote positively for people.
Apparently I might be able to change it to a graphic too instead of the +

Re: I.B.M.'s "Watson"
