Influential Inventions

So without resorting to the obvious two of Computers and the Printing Press, what are some inventions that have impacted your life in a significant-ish way?

I've never been on a train before, but for some reason I was liked them, I like their look

pretty much anything that you can think of has made in impact in some way.

Ive always had an interest in cars.

Electricity. That one pretty much paved the way for the golden-ish age of technology we're in today. Well, in the west at least...

Paper, Telescopes, Calculators (Computers are advanced calculators, so...) and better yet, the airplane!

Telephones/Cellphones... though I hate this whole "texting" age...

Yeah, I can't text worth crap, yet I pretty much have to cause it's how my whole generation communicates

Txt tlk can jump off a cliff.. especially when this generation likes to speak it..

Yeah, it's disappointing how it's become a sub-culture in that people actually use it in their day to day language

These... "scene" kids..

I'm beginning to find even people older than the youth are using these terms in everyday language too

Yeah. My mum has started to put bits of txtspeek into emails. She's 55(ish).

I can put up with e-mails, it's when people use it as verbal speech, that's when it drives me nuts

True... and I even know people who used those languages in Portuguese and English Exams...

So text speak has broken the language barrier, that truly is sad

It does make me wonder what's next for the english language though

If I see a dictionary come with txtspeak, I'm going to hide in the woods and live out my days as a hermit

Yeah, the Dictionary has adapted many modern terms, but if it does start adapting text speak as legit language, then yeah, we're doomed.
