Is it just me?
Or is half my generation fucked up in the head beyond the point of fucking recovery? Seriously, like half the school seems to be racist, the racist party (Swedish Democrats as they call themselves, but i just call them nazis in poor disguise (NIPD)) came in like 2nd place in the school elections (not serious elections, they just want to get a feel of what the kids were thinking these days, and it seems to be ''Let's kick out everyone with a different hair color! Yay!). And it's the same in my class, i recently overheard a discussion between a bunch of idiots in my class who were talking about stopping immigration so ''we'd be rid of all these immigrant cunts''. Sure, they're kind of the stupid kids in my class, who are quite likely to end up working as plumbers, but still. It's fucking sickening.
I'm at the point where i'm even considering moving to Canada (Hey, DW, make some space for me in the basement will ya? ) to avoid the wave of idiocy that's sweeping over Europe (though Europeans do have a history of xenophobia... So it's definitely not the first time, and not the worst either)
How is it where you live? And do you agree?

British people are becoming more xenophobic by the day, if it wasn't for the racism i think the BNP would have ALOT of support.

Sigh... Yeah, i've heard... Guess the amount of white trash is increasing, or maybe racism is increasing and common fucking sense is decreasing... I don't know.

I think it's a rational fear of something they can't control. However, if you got them to properly communicate with someone of a different race - properly, not just talked, but properly got to understand- the vast majority would change their mind. It's just a pity that it's such a life-impacting subject as race.

Re: Is it just me?
Well, I'm actually quite stunned. I sorta just took the Canadians point of view for granted, but for the most part, we seem to be better than most with regards to humanitarian beliefs. Don't get me wrong, there's still some bad places in Canada, but it's not overly hard to avoid them. Of course I don't get out much, I'd be interested to travel Canada just to see how different each province is or isn't. But yeah, I'd recommend living in Canada any day of the week

The Portuguese Political Parties seem to share the same opinion... And btw, how are the news about the NATO meeting on your side?

Not only that... They hear of all these foreigners who commit crimes, start riots and so on, but they very rarely hear of the ones that got a great education and are now working well paying, important jobs or have their own businesses. So they think ''Hey! This must be something in their blood! We have to kick them out before they make life worse for us!''. And sure, because the government prefers to dump all the foreigners in one, convenient place (read: a shitty overpopulated hole in the ground called Rinkeby in the case of Stockholm, or Rosengården for Malmö) where they have kind of crappy living conditions, little support from the government other than money, don't get properly immersed in Swedish culture and so on, immigrants are more prone to criminality... But come on, assuming all the immigrants are criminals because a few thousand are? A few thousand who by the way are criminals because the government can't be arsed to arrange proper placement for said immigrants?
I mean, i was lucky, we decided to come here, and had a good amount of money and support from home when we came here, so we live in a ''normal'' Swedish area. I've been properly immersed in Swedish culture, and i speak fluent Swedish without an accent, but not everyone is that lucky. In fact, most aren't. Maybe the media should put a little more attention on that instead of going ''OH MAH GAWDS, THOSE FUCKERS ARE RIOTING AGAIN! AND FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER! KICK THEM ALL OUT!'' every time something happens in an area mostly populated by immigrants. If people got to see the good immigrants and the reason the badly adjusted ones are just that, they might actually stop being racists.
Also, i think i've made up my mind, i'm getting my high school education in Canada if possible. Might not have family or friends there (and i'd be leaving a few friends behind), but at least Canada's future is looking brighter than Europe's... Let's just hope Canada's next generation isn't as fucked up as Sweden's.

Re: Is it just me?
Im not racist or anything, but im gonna share my opinion on this.
I dont mind people from Africa, or Haiti, or those countries like that coming here because there countris (no offence to them) are crap and i honestly dont blame them for wanting to come to a new country, but places like mexico and all that, if they would try to fix there country (Because we all know they can), then we wouldent have the problem of of having to fix it for them, and instead of concentraiting on our own country, we have to focus on all these smaller countries, wich again brings me to how screwed up the American Government is. I mean ok fix Haiti, Fix Iraq, how about lets fix the people who are still suffering from Hurricane Katrina, lets spend our buget on fixing america, because the UK, Canada, United Nations, they usualy help to and America usually makes it worse....come on. (I cont compleatly off track here)
Im not racist, i just think people who have the power to fix there country and go back to it, should do that instead of screwing up other countries, im not saying they all do, in fact only a small fraction do that, but still, if your life isent gonna change at all by moving to another country, DONT.

Re: Is it just me?
Thing is, no country that is screwed up can be so easily fixed as you say. You're oversimplifying things, again. The entire people won't go ''Hey! This place is screwed up! Let's fix it right in an instant!'' And whoop, it's all peaceful and shiny and everyone's happy. There's a shitload of conflicting interests, and the strongest are often the ones which leaders are doing everything for themselves and their family, or just the ones that use unethical tactics to gain the advantage. Eh... Never mind.
Most people that are moving to the better countries are moving there because they don't have the power to fix things in their home country, and things are looking like they're not getting fixed any time soon. Most countries that are screwed up are going to take a long long time to get anywhere near ''fixed'', some of them are going to take entire generations and support from the rest of the world.
Also, the US should help. Your own people might need a little bit of help (or just a shitload in the medical field, but it seems half the US doesn't agree... Bet they haven't been in a situation where they need a medicine to live/keep an incredibly important ability like sight, but didn't have the money to pay the exorbitant price all those assholes in the US medicine industry have set so they can stay as incredibly freaking rich as they are), but the people of haiti need alot more help than you do. They're the ones living in rubbles, eating whatever they can find and sometimes drinking dirty water. I think that's a little worse than living in a small home and not affording luxury items.

Re: Is it just me?
Though I will argue in that case that homelessness which is essentially the equivalent of that, runs quite rampant in the states. Mind you, Canada has quite a bit of that going on too and it's the type of thing people try to ignore and pretend it's not there.
It's an interesting balance because in comparison to some countries, we're much better off, or the states is. On a comparison of first world countries, the states is pretty low

Re: Is it just me?
That's true, but, like you said, the states is pretty low compared to the poorer countries. And in the case of the states, it's probably mostly drug/alcohol addicts that are homeless. Still, i doubt the americans would actually accept the government paying for providing homes for the homeless... They went on a fucking rampage when Obama presented the medical reform. Which by the way is really basic compared to countries like Sweden if what i heard is correct...
Still, first world countries are in a much bigger need than the US.

Re: Is it just me?
It's funny how everything in life seems to be a matter of perspectives and balances. There's never any true equal or greater than or worse than. I guess it comes down to the picking the lesser of two evils really, finding a compromise that suits the individual
Re: Is it just me?
Well, seeing as humanity is (very) imperfect, most decisions like this are about choosing whatever you think is the lesser evil.

Re: Is it just me?
Yep. I wonder what it would be like though to be perfect. Be without corruption, greed, selfishness etc
Re: Is it just me?
A world without at least a little conflict, choice, strife and chaos just sounds incredibly boring... There'd be nothing big to strive for, nothing to improve...

Re: Is it just me?
Well... it's people greed that actually make this world go ahaed... Military advancements are made because they want to be able to beat their oponents for taking the resources... Scientific advancement nowadays is mainly prepeled by the greed of big companies that want to sell products better than the oposition, and so on...
This world is still based a lot on competition...
