IE9
Okay, so yesterday Windows Internet Explorer 9 beta came out and I had to try it out. Pseudo-review coming:
I installed it (on a 64bit Windows 7 with 4GB of RAM) and rebooted the PC. We started off badly. Its opening time was longer than Chrome 6.0.472.59's, mainly because of add-ons. The browser has an add-on manager that specifies the amount of time each add-on needs to load. Google Toolbar (included) needs around 8 seconds to load (and that's an eternity). After I disabled it, IE opened very quickly (I compared it with Chrome's timing - very similar. I don't think the human brain can tell the difference). Pages load faster with IE9 than with Chrome. The browser's design takes less space than Chrome's due to the lack of a Bookmarks bar and the positioning of the tabs side by side with the address bar. That makes it uncomfortable to browse with a lot of pages opened at the same time.
It shows download requests and other messages on a bottom bar that doesn't take much space and doesn't stop browsing (a unique feature, I believe; I tried to get a screenshot of it by downloading something, but it crashed - it's still a beta, after all). I had to install Adobe Flash Player "Square" Preview Release as there still isn't a proper Release compatible with IE9 64bit.
It's Acid3 score is 95/100 against Chrome's 100/100

I understand you perfectly. The same with Vista, although I have to admit they did a nice job with 7.Vedic wrote:Nice review, but IE 8 made me hate IE for ever

Re: IE9
Just wondering, Raffitz, are some of those icons on your browser from a game called Flyff?
(A poor man's warcraft kinda game if any of you are wondering what Flyff is, its free.....but its only fun for about 10 min, then you have to log off and wait 4 hours before it gets interesting again, lol.)

Indeed.... Windows 7 actually is pretty good. I've had some compatibility issues with some programs, but other than that, it's been as smooth as a baby's bottom.
I still prefer a Linux OS though, it's just so much more flexible.
Oh, and meh... Crackersoft won't ever update IE fast enough to be as secure as Firefox or Chrome. And the addons will never be as good either. Just give up IE! You have lost.

Nope, not quite. The icons visible through aero on the second pic are My Documents, The Sims 2 Apartment Life & DivX Plus converter...
I don't hate it, but I don't like it either, I just wanted to try it out...Darkwing wrote:Firefox made me hate IE forever

Re: IE9
Well, the major turn off for to chrome, for me at least, is the fact that it doesn't have 2 things:
1. Quickfox Notes
- that extension practically manages my life, nothing else quite like it.
2. A new tab button next to the home button.
- When I'm actually using the mouse for opening new tabs, instead of the ctrl + tab combo, It's just gay having to locate the regular new tab button in the bar of open tabs. It could be in a million different places depending on how many tabs you have open. I should be able to put a new tab button wherever the heck I want! Lack of Customization = Lack of Productivity (for me at least)
