Re: HELP ME!!!
well, it's a good thing I can run Ubuntu from my flash stick because this will hopefully fix this Grub issue
Re: HELP ME!!!
ok, fixed that problem but now have another. Ubuntu won't fully install. It gets to like 104% on the installation then this very long warning message comes up. I say close or continue or whatever the option was so it finishes. The I hit restart. It starts the usual shut down procedure but then suddenly like a million errors list themselves on the shut down screen. So I physically turn off the PC and reboot it. I boot into Ubuntu but it says:
There is a problem with the configuration server.
(user/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)
So I hit close and it returns me to the Ubuntu log in screen but a new warning appears in the top right corner saying
Install Problem
The configuration defaults for Gnome power manager something or other. It goes away fairly quickly so I can't copy it all down.

Re: HELP ME!!!
on the bright side, I got to use Ubuntu a little when I was running it from my flash stick and it ran like 5 times faster than Vista I would just like to have it work full time there on the HDD itself
Re: HELP ME!!!
i'm trying Wubi now to install it. Only thing is that it's more or less installed with Grub and apparently getting rid of gub is very tricky
Re: HELP ME!!!
i installed it from the usb. i wanna use Wubi for it now, but I need to remove what is already installed for Ubuntu and Grub and from what I've been reading, Grub can only be removed by having the Vista disk which my PC did not come from. I have back-up system disks, but I don't wanna reset everything (ie files and things)
Re: HELP ME!!!
dammit. even using wubi i gt that gnome power manager error and that other one i posted a couple posts back.
Re: HELP ME!!!
aw crap, now I've done something bad. So on the Vista side I deleted all the partitions that I had created leaving the original one. Now I can't boot up because when I do, all I get is the No Partition Grub thing and booting up the ubuntu on the flash stick I can't seem to find anyway of creating partitions on the HDD to install Ubuntu again to have grub installed again. Please help meee!!!!

Re: HELP ME!!!
but I no has install disks. All I has are these backup disks that the PC gets you to make when you turn the PC on for the first time. And from what I've read, to remove Gnome, you have to insert the Vista disk into the drive and set it as the primary boot source, so windows will boot and recognize Vista as the primary bootleg and not Gnome, and the next time you boot up, you won't need the Vista disk. It's just, I don't know what's on these back-up disks, like will that reset the entire PC, I hope not because all those system prefs and things will be lost. I have back-ups of the files so it's not like it's a big loss, just a major inconvenience
Re: HELP ME!!!
I'd go ahead and use the backup disks. You'd probably spend more time figuring out how to fix this than you would if you just used the disks.

Re: HELP ME!!!
yeah, you're probably right. If I'd only have left one partition on the PC I could've re-installed the glitchy version of Ubuntu just to get Gnome working again. Now the question is, is Ubuntu worth all of this trouble that I've been going through?
Re: HELP ME!!!
Probably not, what's wrong with vista?

Re: HELP ME!!!
Wait i re read the problem. Re insert the live cd versoin of Ubuntu and boot up off of the cd DONT INSTALL. then open up the terminal (top left aplication menue) (under accesories) then type in this code
"sudo apt-update grub2"
that should work and restor you vists. nothing should be deleted. Grub doesnt auto detect vista beacuse MS is dumb.

"sudo apt-get update grub 2"
that didn't work. now trying Toa's dad's suggestion of just using the PC's back-up disks. I has no idea what those will do, but here it goes
Re: HELP ME!!!
Toa's Dad gets free cake and blck man gets free cookies. The back-up disks did the trick
Re: HELP ME!!!
There, now everything works. Ubuntu is now installed alongside Vista. Seems my problem was that my HDD was partitioned. I didn't partition it this time and now everything works
