Simple question, will a wireless connection be slower than a normal connection using a long LAN cable?

yep, unlike wireless, it doesnt matter how far away you are if you are connected through cables. unless you have a mile long ethernet cable, which im guessing you dont.
like he said it wouldn't really be noticable if you are just surfing the net, but gaming it does make a difference.

it also depends on how fast your internet is from your provider.

Depends ... If you have only a laptop, you will feel only a minimal reduction ... If you have several computers, then the network would be divided between these various computers, thereby reducing the available bandwidth for each computer (while with a Cat5 cable, you would have any connection to a PC) ...

depends on the router and your distance from it I find. Internet is actually faster on my laptop which is wireless and the desktop upstairs is slowest in the house (it's furthest away from the router though). If you get a good router, you can have almost that same speeds as being directly connected. Just depends on how much moneys you are willing to fork out

it will always be slower unless you have a wireless card that exceeds the power of your internet card

Then it's down to the PC, not the connection it receives.

But even on Online Gaming, it will be hard using all the 54 MBPS... Unless you're playing 3 MMO's like EVE, Aion, and any other heavy weight at the same time...
