Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
Simple question, will a wireless connection be slower than a normal connection using a long LAN cable?

yes most wireless runs at about 48mbps and ethernet runs at about 108mbps i believe but its not really noticeable
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
yep, unlike wireless, it doesnt matter how far away you are if you are connected through cables. unless you have a mile long ethernet cable, which im guessing you dont.
like he said it wouldn't really be noticable if you are just surfing the net, but gaming it does make a difference.
it also depends on how fast your internet is from your provider.

Depends ... If you have only a laptop, you will feel only a minimal reduction ... If you have several computers, then the network would be divided between these various computers, thereby reducing the available bandwidth for each computer (while with a Cat5 cable, you would have any connection to a PC) ...

I infer that he did not expect to connect to your home network from the philippines ....

Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
depends on the router and your distance from it I find. Internet is actually faster on my laptop which is wireless and the desktop upstairs is slowest in the house (it's furthest away from the router though). If you get a good router, you can have almost that same speeds as being directly connected. Just depends on how much moneys you are willing to fork out
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
it will always be slower unless you have a wireless card that exceeds the power of your internet card
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
not for me, like I said,it's faster for me. The hardwired PC runs at max like 80MBPS and my laptop goes at about 100
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
Then it's down to the PC, not the connection it receives.

Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
yes and no some router only send out 54mbps max and that wont matter if your lattops router goes upto say 70mbps you'll still only get 54mbps
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
But even on Online Gaming, it will be hard using all the 54 MBPS... Unless you're playing 3 MMO's like EVE, Aion, and any other heavy weight at the same time...
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
if the trasfer rate is higher than the router speed it should be the same

Actually, my router can go up to 100 MBPS...
Re: Me Thingy, me ask question a stone age man would know, ugh
really mine only goes upto 54 mbps but in the uk we have crappy internet speeds so it doesnt really matter
