Logic vs Fear
One of the bigger issues I think we as a race have to deal with is this problem of logic vs fear. What I mean by that is determining how much is logically reasoned out and how much is based on fear. We tend to be very fearful creatures, always promising that we'll take some leap of faith, or risk or just try something new, but we usually fail. What happens? Well, we tend to start reasoning out why we didn't just do it and part of the problem is that most of the time, the logic behind it is sound. It's usually based on some very good reasons, however, were those reasons thought of beforehand or were they thought of after the fact, to cover up for the fact that you simply chickened out? Almost everyone does it so denying it would be basically a lie. We always talk ourselves into not doing things and somehow we become content or apathetic to it so much so that we get to the point where we don't even think of changing something anymore, we just get used to the usual disappointment of life and trudge on. Probably, in most cases, had the risk or change occurred, the person would have benefited from it (not always) but you never know and most never will. Then we get so used to life as it is, that we tell others not to bother, but why do we do that? Is it out of fear that they will ruin their life even though it has no real effect on you, or is it because as a race, we hate to see people (especially people close to us) get ahead in life? I know it seems backwards and everyone has this tendency to jump on the bandwagon of "we can do anything we want, we're good people, we'd never try to bring someone else down," but really think about it. Think about how many times you told someone "Don't bother doing that, it's a waste of time" or "well, maybe you should wait to a more opportune time." Are we really looking out for them, or are we simply afraid to let go and face up to the fact that we didn't do anything out of the ordinary, that we didn't make that leap and that letting someone else close to you do so, in your heart makes you feel like they beat you and that you are a failure, so to avoid it, we bring those arund us down, trying to keep them on our level?

heh heh, I'm just trying to get some good discussions going. We're not going very far anymore with these "what's your favourite TV show" type threads so now it's time for more substantial and meaningful discussions, make us seem like more than hormonal teenagers at least

Uuh, I'll leave this one for a bit. Please put paragraph structure into your next tomes as the TL;DR button is really appealing.

Re: Logic vs Fear
Hmm, well. I am definitely one of those people whose view is to say "don't bother" quite often.
