Evolution
Well, in the long time I've been on this forum, I've seen lots of things, people, and even this forum itself change.
Especially the rpgs. Back when I joined, in the Dreadnought era, we pretty much did it like the old TOS era trek: no backstory for /anyone/, one ship, one crew, and every episode a single adventure, which would be done within 15 pages. Now we have RPs which only start to pic up speed at 15 pages.
Maybe we should have another rpg like that. It would at least be a lot easier accessible to newbies, and it would provide a distraction when the 'big guy's' rp is giving people headaches again.

Re: Evolution
Hee hee, we do have a tendency of making utterly confusing RPs, though I still hold to the fact the DW rp was the most confusing. I've been toying with the idea of super-heroes in some capacity, but am still figuring out details, however, it probably wouldn't be a simple RP cause we have a tendency to get really deep into what's happening
Re: Evolution
I suppose you mean Darkwing II, with Terra? Yes, that's when it got really complicating.
But that's what I mean, there would be a rule stating strictly "no backstories", end of.
As i said, TOS concept, new planet, new problem, couple of pages, problem solved, next planet!

Re: Evolution
problem is, I think most of us wouldn't find that interesting anymore. No offense, but the noobs aren't really dedicated players and most drop out anyways after a few pages, so to make a whole RP for them is a bit of a waste. The people who play are you, me, terra, ed, shem etc and we're more accustomed to the more "intelligent" story
Re: Evolution
That's true, although sometimes we're still like, augh, wish it was less complicated. True, or not?

Re: Evolution
Yeah, and Shemuel usually plays less when it gets more complicated, I've noticed.
Back in the days of the dreadnought, when Alka and Shem would play... Aaah, good times.

Re: Evolution
I enjoy it more when there aren't glory hoggers. I don't think I play less when it gets complicated, I just play less generally. I have to be kicked hard to do anything.
I don't think the Dreadnought days were that much better. There was the uncertainty of who was running it (between the founder JTull and the more capable DW), huge irregularities in plot, and people like Meganew. Have read of it in the archives.

Re: Evolution
well, with this superhero idea, i think i would limit it only to the experienced players
Re: Evolution
Well, I think it was more because of some of the people than because of the concept. Also, we were all so much younger then. (lol) Hell, I reread some of my posts and seriously considered going back in time and kick my younger self in the ass. I was such a noobie back then.Shemuel wrote:I don't think the Dreadnought days were that much better. Anyway, i'm not so sure of the superhero idea. I've never been the kind of guy for superheroes.

Re: Evolution
Too bad, they're both good films, I wish there were more of that style. Heroes sort of tried, but ultimately failed. But ones like Hancock are about a real person that has abilities. It's much more believable because they don't go around with tights and a cape and it's usually darker, though Hancock was a little more comedic in a way, but still very very good

Yes, we were definitely different. I made my
