Flooding
My city has just experienced flooding and I have had to be evacuated then drove to my sister's friend's house. It's not that bad but my neighborhood is flooded and some houses are under water. I had to go to a different section by boat. We rode school buses to a community center. Otherwise it's just another stressful day.

And that's why Dutch water management systems are infinitely superior.

Fine but this isn't supposed to happen more than 500 miles INLAND on a plateau. The only reason it flooded is that there was a river near by as well as a creek...I never realized how low my neighborhood is as compared to the rest of the community.

Re: Flooding
I'm sorry to hear that. How is your house?
And MNIM, if there wasn't better water management of Nederland, then the country would be constantly underwater.

Re: Flooding
Well yes, 2/3 of the country is below sea level. but even higherup it can flood very nicely. Most recent floods in the Netherlands have been caused by the Germans say "Oh what the fuck" and suddenly let twice the normal amount go through the Rijn. Besides that, we usually don't have any towns flooded even if the dikes go, because then there's a second dike which is meant to hold it, and no town for another couple of meters up.

Re: Flooding
Actually my house is dry, my parents called earlier today to say it didn't flood our house. Can't say the same though to almost all of the neighborhood...sadly a few people have died because of the flooding...
It's even flooding downtown in the city. Since it's on the Cumberland and that it was at 50.4 ft deep today I would say rain can do a lot of damage. If my house gets power back and we can drive in and out of our road we'll be home tomorrow. That way I can set up my computer again and play M2TW!
@DJ: I won't drown at all since my sister's friend's house is up high on a hill. It's so steep, when we had a snow storm my sister couldn't get down.

Re: Flooding
That's a very good question. If you were to live on the top of a hill, probably. If not, I couldn't say.
Re: Flooding
Darn... Our back yard is a hill, and our street is a hill. We're in the middle of the hill. I hope we have good soil.
Re: Flooding
I suppose it has to do with whether the house is on a good foundation or not.
(Hey! I actually remembered something my shop teacher told me! xD)

Re: Flooding
My house is about 200 years old, with a stone foundation. Our cellar floor is dirt, so what ever water seeps in gets soaked up.
