Re: Microhoo!
well tbh in my opinion atm windows 7 is ahnds down the best operating system and you guys are welcome to use linux but im just saying that for everyday use and windows is the best, sure linux is great if you want to mixthings up and fiddle around with your os but for those who want to use a computer everyday tasks windows is the best
Re: Microhoo!
Yup, indeed... It's the only one who doesn't get limited by software limitations... I hate corporate companies so much
But yeah, for work and for gaming, Windows is the best... And if it wasn't for Dx11, I continued to think XP was better than 7

Re: Microhoo!
Windows 7 is actually pretty darn good!
Eye candy isn't as good as Linux, but hey, it's windows. Everything is made for it.

Re: Microhoo!
isn't linux for those who want to do programming, but offers none of the features everyday users would want. i think our digital projector at work is some crude form of linux, or is based on the concept due to the functions required by the projector
Re: Microhoo!
I have never herd of a Linux based projector, but i suppose it could be. And i have yet to find an everyday function that i couldn't do in Ubuntu.

Re: Microhoo!
linux was originally made as something people could use and change to their own specifications basically something ready made and leagally changeable and cheap/free i think these days people genarally use linux for study work and anything similar, i use linux for the internet cause i dont trust windows with it

Re: Microhoo!
Good child, but Linux was created (by a collage student) out of pure curiosity to create a more powerful "engine" than MINX (a UNIX based system).

Re: Microhoo!
You can do all of your "office" work stuff on Linux with Open office. (Heck, I use that on windows too)Darkwing wrote:isn't linux for those who want to do programming, but offers none of the features everyday users would want. i think our digital projector at work is some crude form of linux, or is based on the concept due to the functions required by the projector
And you've got web browsers, chat software, the whole shebang.
It's just the gaming that sucks.

True... and not true... Linux can be for anyone, but it's the most recomended for programing, because of the in-built features that allow for a better experience... as that OS has several parts of it's code that needs a python (or perl, or C) decompiler to install, those are already installed in the setup of the OS...
Also, it would be normal to be that... Most basic cellphones also seem to use some crude version of UNIX... Most digital appliances in the market use something similar to a Linux distro...

True, true & False...
You know... the gaming doesn't sucks... for example back in some time, Quake IV was one of the highest level games existent... And they worked perfectly with Linux... The problem is more compatibility... Of course that the versions planed for windows wont run very well on Linux, even with Wine or Cadega... Now games made for linux do play very well...
Re: Microhoo!
Unfortunately, games made for linux are few and far between since linux isnt exactly a big market for gaming.

Of course not... Think the following:
You're the director of a big game producer, and you think: "I wanna make a new game with a new engine and an unbelivable history"... You want to make it to all platforms (Windows, Unix, XBox, PS, Wii, etc)... You then notice: Oh my god, this is far more expensive that I thought... Is someone stealing me?
The Answer: No... There's a big cost in porting programs (this includes pc games) to other platforms beyond the one were it was made... So, you take out the UNIX system and Wii System... "Well those don't have much hardcore gamers, so, they don't need it..." After another while, you still see that the XBox owners aren't interested in that game, so what do you say? "F'ck off ungratefull people..." And there you end up having only two platforms...
See the reason?
In fact, in Ubuntu Synaptics there are 20600 packages containing games... Try out Warzone 2100... It's a nice "fake 3d" game, strategy kind... But it has graphics similar to Starcraft, so...
Re: Microhoo!
Sorry, i meant the good unix games are few and far between. Most good, well known games are on windows. In fact, some of them are windows exclusive (games for windows).

Re: Microhoo!
Actually, there was one... I think it was called America's Army, made exclusively for Linux by the US Army Propaganda Cabinet...
Re: Microhoo!
Hmmm... how many linux users would join the army?

Well... most of those guys that have linux are IT pros or programers that need a Linux distro to work... And those guys usually have kids, that know Linux their whole lifes (although they're not experts of it), that do use the pc for fun...

Re: Microhoo!
Why? If you have the time then do it... If you don't, then stick around with your actual OS (If it works, of course)...
It's always nice to learn how to install an OS, and nowadays, it's so easy to install an OS on your pc that no longuer is a job for advanced IT's... Not like what happened with the earlier versions of windows...

Re: Microhoo!
It's that easy... Except if you have an OS that configures the BIOS to check the HDD before the CD/DVD player... Then you must navigate in the universe of how to modify a bios... Windows is usually an OS that does that... They claim it is to reduce time from Start up...
Re: Microhoo!
Meh, I got better things to spend my money/discs on. I'll stick with Windows 7.

Re: Microhoo!
Not a bad idea, unless you want to become l33t, or if you're poor and can't afford windows.
And that's exactly why Linux gaming sucks.Thingy wrote:Unfortunately, games made for linux are few and far between since linux isnt exactly a big market for gaming.
Re: Microhoo!
If an ordinary person asked me what OS to use, I would suggest Windows to them unless they had an interest in all things nerdy. There seems to me to be no tangible benefit to non-tecchies.
Apart from not buying Windows - I would assume windows to come pre-installed.
