Well, it's almost over here in sweden. Now's the recovery. And yes, they could have used that money to improve their military, considering that they have neighbors from hell who want to nuke them to oblivion.

But why spend money on military when the US will never abandon you?

still, why waste money on a giant robot statue when there are better things to spend it on. The recession aint that bad for the moment, france and germany are no longer in recession and the australia is slowly climbimg back up, in fact the Aussie dollar is becoming pretty strong its buying 86US cents which is pretty good compared to last year. As for the US, they've got their own problems for the moment, after all they're moving into autum and winter and we haven't seen the full effects of swine flu there at the moment, olus im pretty sure coutries are worried that hendra virus might spread from australia cause 4 people have already died from it and it's estimated that finding and making a vaccine could take years.
