Re: DW's HP PC
yeah, i have an HP that is two years old and I just got it back from the repair shop cause it was having issues. Fortunately I didn't need a new HDD. BTW, JPB, a lot of my problems came from outdate or incompatible registries. do you know of a free program that corrects that? I found a pay program, it did the scan for free and found over 900 registry issues. The IT guy said I should reset to factory defaults, but I don't have those back up disks. Any ideas on where I could get for free the backup to the m8100n series?
Re: DW's HP PC
HP Recovery is supposed to be inside your computer, don't you've an Partition that says: "HP Recovery"?

it's there, but the keyboard and mouse is inorperative when the HP screen is on and all it says is system recovery, which i have tried, it doesn't have a back-up as far as 2 years ago
Re: DW's HP PC

Re: DW's HP PC
what? you've uTorrent, right? you just need to, when you download it in Firefox, select open with: uTorrent... than, you open the uTorrent item in the taskbar, right side, and there will appear with an windows, saying the content off your download, select ok, and you're making the download...
And btw, press all the time until the thing appears...

Re: DW's HP PC
that's ok, i'm ripping my PC apart ATM to find the HDD. It still doesn't work, shows you what a 300 dollar warranty gets you pfft! And I had to pay 40dollars for them to look at it AFTER i purchased the warranty two years ago (it is a 3 yr warranty). So now, I do things my way, rip out the HDD, most likely buy a new one, install the new one, download Vista (that's right, I said Download, I'm not paying for a faulty OS that I already own) download the drivers and install them on the new HDD and see if that works at all

Well, you could order those disk?
And instead of downloading an pirated one, why don't you install linux? After I tell you how to install windows programs on it...

I agree with JPB. Ubuntu would be a good choice for your computer, as it has high specs. And WINE is going to work for sure on ubuntu. However, I wouldn't download vista. The process would be nigh on impossible with something as bulky as that, even with the creation of a live disk. But if you insist on illegally downloading something Windows, then I'd say XP would be a safer bet.

Well, there is Registry Mechanic which should work with any computer, and it's completely free. It scans your registry for stuff that goes no where and will fix any problems.. you could also try Tune-Up Utilities

Or CCleaner... also works... and after cleaning the registry don't forget to defrag your harddrive...

Re: DW's HP PC
Tune-Up utilities adds a program called Tune-Up 1-Click Maintenance which will check to see if your harddrive needs a defrag

Hmmm... If I had windows in this computer now... NAAAH! Linux Mint! Btw, (yes I'm making propaganda here) did you know that with linux theres no need to defrag? The hdd is always flat!

Re: DW's HP PC
ok, to clear things up, cannot boot up into safe mode as i said THE KEYBOARD IS INOPERATIVE also my computer doesn't have a "restore to factory defaults" the only way is if I had the disks. When my PC did turn on, I ran a registry check and yes, there were a lot of registry errors, unfortunately I had to pay for the program to fix them, and my PC crashed shortly after so it looks like no registry cleaning is going to happen. now a new hardrive would fix that right as it's a fresh start? what I'm doing currently as well is i'm digging around (tomorrow) to find my HDD and see if the disk has been scratched or something. the warranty pc fixer dude said the startup issue was fixed but that he couldn't replicate some of the conditions I described (ie the white dots). I think he just got it through one of the times it did work and he just said "ok, looks good to me" and probably didn't even bother to check for any hardware issues. if i can get it to start back up, i'll look for that registry fixer program and see if I can't fix the 980 some odd registry errors there were

Yeah Lee, computers are cheap. You can get one for the price of a bottle of water.
Yes, you wouldn't have problems like that with a new HDD

If you find a £50 computer made in the last ten years that works, give me the seller's address.

Re: DW's HP PC
well, i'm currently on my Vista which appears to be working after cleaning about 1,000 registry problems. Um, I'll let you know how if the PC is really working in a week, cause by then I'll be able to assess if the PC really works.
Re: DW's HP PC
1000? Either your HDD has mysteriously effed up, or you had a serious viral infection.

Re: DW's HP PC
no, it wasn't viral. see my computer wasn't connected to the internet for about 2 years and the lack of being connected caused things not to be registered, updated etc
