Re: Population
The Japanese have the reverse problem -- their population has actually begun to decline, as a function of women pursuing careers and married couples not pulling in enough money to sustain a family.
Population growth is the cause of all the world's problems. There would be no world hunger if there weren't so many people wanting food placing a strain on sources that cannot catch up. There would be no global warming if so many people did not want electricity and other norms of industrial life. The list goes on. Sometimes the connections are a bit weak, because we ought to be able to catch up as a technological world to larger population growth. A lot of the problem is that this technology just doesn't extend to less developed countries. If it did, then the population growth argument might be moot, or close to it. I had a teacher a few years ago who was a big proponent of ZPG, or zero population growth. He thinks any family having more than two children is "vile, inhuman, and malicious." Said with a smile, of course.

Re: Population
Well I don't believe it's malicious to have more than two children, but I do believe there should be international restrictions of population growth. Thankfully the Chinese adopted a one-child policy, or now there would be well over a billion more population on the earth.
However, I can see some people's arguments that the developing countries are going through what the (now developed) world went through a couple of centuries ago, and that how can we deny them what we have (highpopulation, CO2 overusing metropolises)? Not my view, but some people's.

Re: Population
Anyway... for me... the best option is... send a few bilion people to space... in large ships... then have them find their new solar sistem... or Mars... or a nice black hole...
Re: Population
oh, how very friendly and humane of you, JBP. And how are we going to choose them? Do we just rip them right out of their communities and lifes, put them on some huge ship and blast them into a random direction in space? The best way to deal with it isnt only colonization (because colonizing another planet wont be possible for a veeeery long time), also, we dont have anything near the technology needed for a huge ship.
The best and least nuke related way to solve it is do like this guy said, family planning. The excess kids will become old and die, leaving the next generation with a well planned and healthy society. But i really dont care much, i'm never having kids, and i'll only live for 80 years max. So it wont affect me.

Nope. Just saying. Cause governments hate people who don't have kids. If they decide to go with JPB's idea, you'll be one of the first to go.

Re: Population
Not really, people who want kids would be the first to go. If they sent people off to reduce population, they'd send the ones who are planning to increase the population, not the ones that arent planning to change the population.

Re: Population
You're missing the point. The governments would send off people who decide not to have kids.
You're used to them doing silly/borderline stupid/idiotic things. Why not in the case of population control as well?
It would get rid of those girls that have an abortion every time something goes wrong though.

Re: Population
In fact... I think tha all around the developed world, there are beneces to large families... and the ones who don't want to build a family... they recieve little or none...
But that was only one of the ideas... We could always nuke them, as someone sugested...
What we need is a 3rd World War without being between the nuclear powers... just between, for example... the developed world and the underdeveloped world... and hope they don't have as many nukes as we think...
Other... would make ecological human habitats (cities), were the fuel consuption was low, and so the CO2 emiting... with vaste green spaces and several non poluting public transport means... And offer this way of life to all other countries...

Re: Population
hmm, it seems better than what the government plans to do. they plan to tax the hell out of people that are using CO2, so much that you can only use CO2 once a week if you dont want a serious dent in your money. thwe middle class will be withered away.

Sigh.... Is the american's hate for taxes genetical or something? They want to put a tax on CO2 so the industries are forced to reduce it, not to destroy all industry.

and about being taxed for no real reason at all. humans are contributing to less than 1% of global warming.

Re: Population
ACtually.... Humans... alone... are contributing with around 60% of global warming... the other 40% are natural (vulcanos, gas pockets that let their gas go away... animal breathing... and the Sun itself...)

Indeed... I was a bit mad with a colleague of mine because he was saying I can't commit compromises... Talk the one who hasn't done anything the hole year, but... now I'm ok... I decompressed with Tennis...
Re: Population
My friends, why don't you try and be open-minded like myself?
I have defined opinions about global warming and overpopulation, etc, but still, I keep my mind open to new discoveries, ad if the theories I believe are proved wrong, then I'll change my beliefs...
Now, we should most of all respect each other's opinions...

Re: Population
i still think its a problem. and the only way to stop it is to educate the third world countries, like someone said before.
but the U.S isnt completely under control. the sad truth is you should only have 2 kids to replace the parents when they die. the U.S. is just above that limit. educate some of us as well, like that girl who had 18 something kids... and there wasnt even a father! shes bringing the world down!

And as for population, I'm not concerened, there is still loads of room. And if we run out, we should just nuke africa, what are they going to do about it anyway?

Re: Population
Yes... Jtull went on a boat trip, his enemies launched a nuke, he was able to escape, the nuke sank, and when it reached the bottom of the ocean, the explosion caused a fissure in the tectonic plaque that leaked lava and a huge island formed...
(Note: Jtull lives in New Zealand, that's why I said it)

Raffitz wait! I am going with you! xD
BTW ED... The American way of entering in a country exits at many, but many time... During the Colonization of Africa by the Portuguese andthe discovery of Asia/Oceania, there where in both place local people, which we messed up with their cultures and forced them to join us (or they would die)... Even Vasco da Gama, after reaching India, started conquering (yes, I said conquering) everything that would put in their ways... at the way of a Cannon...
