SETI@Home
SETI@Home is a project I put my foot over today while seeing a sciences magazin down here... It's a program which allows you to take part of the SETI program... Has the SETI supercomputers don't have enought power to scan all the signals, they only scan the strong one... but the weak one... who's gonna scan them? Then, here we enter! You make download of a program who makes download and re-uploads the data back to them... our pc is used to do the small job that the supercomputers don't do...
The data captured by the Arecibo radio-telescope is retransmited to the internet and then to thousands of smaller computers... You can create/join teams... and I'm still to understand what does credits means, but... anyway, I'm using my pc right now for that and it seems cool...
here's the link!: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/index.php

ouch... you need to buy a new pc (or at least expand it's harddrive)...
Other thing you might do is put all your data into an external drive and then format your pc, keeping files you don't acess often (pictures, for example) in the hdd, and files you use often (music, for example...) pass then into the pc...
Re: SETI@Home
Well that's the thing, i have external drives, all filled.I have too much important things, so I'm going to buy a Terabyte drive whenever I can.

The only downside is that if you do hear anything, the FBI will kill you..
