Thought-Provoking Music
Or in layman's terms, tasteful music with meaningful lyrics. Can be any sort; metal, rock, hip-hop, whatever. Try to link to the lyrics if you can.
My favorite band for thought-provoking music right now is Nevermore. Especially stuff on their Dead Heart in a Dead World album. Great stuff. One of the bands where every member is amazing, even the vocalist. I'm sure DJ will appreciate the lyrics.
Beautiful song. Lyrics and possible meanings are here.
Other rock/metal stuff that I may post includes Rush, Dream Theater, Cynic, maybe some Metallica, etc.

Nice lyrics too!

Ok, now your least favorite...
Well, not your least favorite, but still, you know what I mean.
Now, the lyrics for this one are just beautiful.
I'd have to say, I can really relate to this one.
Heck, the unforgiven trilogy's lyrics are excellent all the way through.

That's one of the reasons I didn't really like Death Magnetic that much; they had to rework a song that they've already done two times. That may be cool for some, but I personally see it as being lazy and reusing old material. Still, the introspective lyrics are cool.
I do seem to be enamored by 21st century music as of late.
Obviously about the war in Iraq. http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858654811/

Like I said, post whatever you want as long as it doesn't have completely see-through lyrics.

They didn't redo the song, it's a trilogy of songs! That's like saying the lord of the rings movies is just a trilogy of remakes just
because they encompass the same theme!
Oh well, opinions are opinions.
I just might be able to sleep, knowing you have one different than mine.
Back onto your thread topic... thought... provoking.... music....
Ah ha!
One of my favorites!
Kansas - Dust in the Wind

yeah, screw the records industry. because dinosaurs will die!
SOAD - Boom!
Savatage - Sarejevo 12/24
ok, the original by Savatage did not have the text in the beginning, but for the rest this is a good cover from the ORIGINAL from the most underestimated masters of Savatage. It does not have lyrics, the true meaning is in it's origins and it's pure and raw instrumental energy.
this piece however is NOT by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

- Spoiler:
- The piece describes a lone cello player playing a forgotten Christmas carol in war-torn Sarajevo. Wikipedia denotes how Paul O'Neill (co-founder of TSO) explained the story behind Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 in an interview published on ChristianityToday.com:
"...We heard about this cello player born in Sarajevo many years ago (Vedran Smailović) who left when he was fairly young to go on to become a well-respected musician, playing with various symphonies throughout Europe. Many decades later, he returned to Sarajevo as an elderly man—at the height of the Bosnian War, only to find his city in complete ruins.
I think what most broke this man's heart was that the destruction was not done by some outside invader or natural disaster—it was done by his own people. At that time, Serbs were shelling Sarajevo every night. Rather than head for the bomb shelters like his family and neighbors, this man went to the town square, climbed onto a pile of rubble that had once been the fountain, took out his cello, and played Mozart and Beethoven as the city was bombed. He came every night and began playing Christmas carols from that same spot. It was just such a powerful image—a white-haired man silhouetted against the cannon fire, playing timeless melodies to both sides of the conflict amid the rubble and devastation of the city he loves.
Some time later, a reporter traced him down to ask why he did this insanely stupid thing. The old man said that it was his way of proving that despite all evidence to the contrary, the spirit of humanity was still alive in that place. The song basically wrapped itself around him.
We used some of the oldest Christmas melodies we could find, like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Carol of the Bells" (which is from Ukraine, near that region). The orchestra represents one side, the rock band the other, and single cello represents that single individual, that spark of hope."
this piece however is NOT by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

SOAD: Forest.
There's alot of debate about what they're talking about, everything from god talking to jesus to mother earth talking to humanity. My guess is mother earth talking to humanity, because serj isn't a christian, but an animist. But whatever they're talking about, this song is freaking awesome
