General Heavy Metal Discussion.
Since there are like... about two people other than myself that actually listen to it, I really don't expect this topic to go that far. So let's start with... thrash metal. I'm sure all the three metalheads on this forum listen to it.
Metallica vs. Megadeth debate allowed. But intelligent debate, please.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
I agree. Thrash metal is only good when good bands play it.
On the subject of Metallica vs. Megadeth.
Megadeth and Metallica both have some good songs, and both have some bad. I like both of them, but sometimes one can go completely down under and well.. just plain be menace to the ears.

You know, I hate how people spell tHrash metal as "trash". Makes it hard to understand whether or not they're insulting the genre or they're actually just misspelling it.
As you all obviously know by now, I prefer Megadeth over Metallica. But now that I've gotten over my fanboy stage, I greatly respect Metallica for single-handedly inspiring the thrash metal genre (major props to Dave Mustaine, though.) I'm liking their first two albums.
And thrash in general? Well, bands like Slayer and Kreator helped inspire the death metal genre (Reign in Blood and Pleasure to Kill. Great albums) that would come about later in the 1980s with Scream Bloody Gore by Death.
Though my friend says "thrash metal on a whole is a bunch of people that can barely play their instruments and just play as fast as they can." Opinions on this?

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
i am typing on a bloody laptop with a keyboard i'm not used to, tilted 90 degrees while in my sleeping back, in the middle of the night while it is so dark you can't even see the freaking moon, with winds up to Beaufort 7 yanking at the tent. please forgive me while i compose a satanic verse about your death by suffocation.
hey, wouldn't that be a great idea for a death metal song?

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
But that song title "Death by Suffocation" rips two death metal band names. Suffocation and Death, both of which are highly influential. Death for just inspiring death metal period, and Suffocation for the modern blast beat and being a pioneer of the brutal death metal genre.
You probably already know Death, but here's Suffocation.
So yeah, I forgive you for spelling thrash wrong.
Edit - Forum's not liking the code that's obviously correct.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer, they're all great.
For lyrical quality, I would have to vote metallica as the top.
James Hatfield is probably one of my favourite poets.
(Yes, I consider him a poet.)
But, that's just my opinion.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
I actually find their lyrics and arrangement kinda boring. Most of it just standard 4/4, repeating the chorus excessively, etc. Better than Kreator though, I must say.
Switching topics since everyone hates thrash. Hmm... traditional heavy metal. Discuss stuff about Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, The Scorpions, Judas Priest, etc.
But before that...

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
You've never read the justice for all album's lyrics?
Yeah, check that out. You might want to edit your post.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
No I have not because the only time vocals matter is in pop music. Vocals play second fiddle to the instrumentation in heavy metal.
That being said, you've never read the United Abominations album lyrics? Particularly Amerikhastan and Washington Is Next?
Here's the lyrics for Amerikhastan
Recruiting the ill-fated for the war.
A legion of uneducated bankrupt souls,
with a lust for revenge...
Answering the call
From NewYorKhatar to Callitarabia.
Desperation provides fertile ground
For religious extremism,
This glorious brainwashing where prejudice lies
Like a crouching tiger,
Tormenting the peasents till they erect an army
Under everyones nose.
In the end propoganda destroys their DNA,
God help them.
All that they envisioned
of what things would come to be
Turned into a pink mist
When they blew to smithereens
We are just a war away from Amerikhastan
With god vs. god, the undoing of man
Promising the vapor
In the end they become one
No rules of engagement,
This enemy hides amongst women and children.
And to beat violence,
You must ignore the focus groups.
You must set into the mossad,
Turn off the BBC and CNN
And don't look back.
Rest assured there'll be no more
Middle eastern crisis. Hell there'll be no more Middle east!
These are your people, Lady Liberty.
Pull up your dress today,
And tattoed is "property of USA."

But a glory mine is about
To be unleashed on earth.
Hey, Jihad Joe, guess what?
We're comin' to get you.
All that they envisioned
of what things would come to be
Turns into a death knell
When you look behind the scenes
We are just a war away from Amerikhastan
With god vs. god, the undoing of man
And the ones for Washington is Next are here.
Thoughtful, political lyrics. Then again, United Abominations is one of their worse albums with a lead guitarist that I only can say is better than Al Pitrelli, but little more. They made up for it with good lyrics.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
So epic that I have to post it. This is by FAR the best cover of the song I have ever seen. Instrumentation and vocals are spot on, even though the vocalist doesn't do the high-pitched screams that are in there every so often. Near perfect.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
first time i have knowingly listen to "heavy metal music", i guess you call it that. Seems to be pretty good exercising music or riding in a car music, but not trying to fall asleep music.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
Eh... It's, not really music for driving, sorry. And if you actually liked it, then I'm sure you'll like some of their other stuff.
If you like melodic stuff
One of their heavier songs
Testament is just the one band out of thousands of good metal bands, though they are certainly one of the better ones.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
When I first heard this song, I thought to myself "Wtf?" But really, the song after the sludgy buildup did not sound like Slayer. Then again, I was only really familiar with Show No Mercy and Reign in Blood.
Melodic Slayer. Sounds good too.

Re: General Heavy Metal Discussion.
So out of the four most influential metal bands (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Metallica) which one is your favorite? I personally prefer all of the latter three over Sabbath. My favorite from the remaining three would probably be Maiden.
