system 32
I have had this problem for a time now, every time i boot up the computer and log on 2 system 32 errors pop up right after each other. When i close out of the second one (the last one) the desktop goes blank( just my background no icons) then reloads all the icons (icons show back up). I dont know much about computers, and im pretty sure alot of people here are much better than me, so any help even a point in a direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, except flashfreak22

Re: system 32
System 32 is the folder where a lot of your operating system components are located.
I might be able to help more if you tell me exactly what the error messages said.
But in the meantime, if you haven't tampered with anything in your system, it's probably damaged from a virus.

Re: system 32
Umm... JPB? When you say PS it's post script. PSS is post script script. It's supposed to be PPS as in post post script. But that's off topic.

You just reminded me how much I love WINE!
You can play Age of Empires with it.
So, I'm happy. LOL!

AOE FTW! Yeah!
but, yes, this is a bit O-T.
Sounds like you might well have to either reinstall windows or install Ubuntu.

poor guy... c'est la vie, mon amie (arg! French! I hate this!)... But yeah, that sucks...
Re: system 32
And your mommy and daddy aren't dumb enough to not notice a dual boot?
Sucks, I know.
I just went ahead, and partitioned my hard drive without my dad's permission.
I changed the dual boot screen's choice selection timer to a really short countdown, so that the dual boot screen only flashes very quickly, and then it boots up into windows.
But, if I wanted to boot up into ubuntu, I just held down the up button after I turned on my computer.
Then, when you get to the boot menu, it doesn't just flash quickly since the computer notices that there is input data coming from the keyboard. Then, I can choose to boot up in Ubuntu.
I didn't keep my dual boot hidden for long though. I showed it to my dad on purpose.
At first, when he saw ubuntu, he freaked out as if Windows was gone forever.
Then, when I showed him that windows still existed, he calmed down.
I still got grounded for a week though.
I think he just grounded me for scaring him.
I really don't know.
After all, a lot of his discipline doesn't make sense anyways.

Indeed, such ironic...
For not saying that I'm spamming, go to www.ubuntu.com and then make download of ubuntu 8.10 and record it into a CD using a program like Nero Burning Room or CDBurnerXP.

Re: system 32
Well, I'm pretty sure all of those "*" mean that everything in 32 is gone.
In other words, you're screwed. LOL!
If you didn't delete it, then someone that had access to your computer probably did.
If your firewall was up, it probably wasn't a trojan.
I don't know of any modern trojans that are able to delete 32 completely.
A destructive batch file would do it though.
Or, like I said, if someone had access to your computer, they could have deleted it themselves.
Do you have backup disk/s?
If not, a windows disk?
If you have neither, you're REALLY screwed.
You might have to turn to Ubuntu, or Opensuse.
(Since you're a newb.)

Oh, and dude, you NEED system32!!!!!
NEED!!!
Also, I read your spoiler already.
I know you don't know anything about what happened to it, but that's why I gave you the possible causes.

Re: system 32
it could be just one corrupted file in there.
that happened to me the hard drive messed up and crrupted a critical file in the registery

Re: system 32
That's possible.
It could be trojan damage.
After all, many viruses effect the windows32 filesystem.
But, that's why I told him to conduct a scan.
Also, I suspect it's mostly likely a trojan now, since he says his computer is still usable.
