The SGC - Background
The SGC (Stargate Command) is the head of the Stargate operation on Earth. The Stargate =is kept secret from the general population, except there have been instances where revelation almost became necessary. The SGC sends out small teams of four known as SG teams, and they are numbered accordingly. The SGC exits as an arm of the US Air Force, though most of the Air Force doesn't know of the Stargate prgram. The Stargate is known to the President and the Joint chiefs, and the Russians, with whom the SGC is obligated to share info with. The SG teams are sent to other planets in the galaxy, to procure new technologies in peaceful means, and to establish new allies and acquaintances throughout the galaxy. The Stargate project attempts to a hold a strong moral code, but that doesn't stop them from becoming violent if necessary. Currently, things are at relative peace, with the main enemies, the Guoald and Ori and Replicators all either destroyed or in shambles. Every SG team carries what is known as an IDC. This small handheld device, allows you access to Earth. This is done, by once Earth has been dialed by a DHD, you enter your team specific code on the IDC. This will allow the SGC on earth to know that you are an SG team, and earth will open the iris, a device that makes things go splat if closed. Stargate addresses are usually in the form of something like P3X 456, or P29 782 etc. Always six digits, with the seventh being the point of origin. Wormholes are created once a Stargate has been activated or dialed in other words. Wormholes are single way, except for the case of radio/visual transmission, and some high level energies. Gates can stay open for no longer then 38 minutes, then it shuts down automatically. Once a gate is active, it cannot be dialed from another Gate.

Re: The SGC - Background
that's good, there's a lot that could go there, so i other sg fans wanna help spot something big and important that a newb should know, then please post it
Re: The SGC - Background
Also, Earth does not have a working DHD, so they have to manually dial, by spinning the inner ring until they stop at the specific constellation they want. This process is difficult and requires a large high-horsepower engine to spin the inner ring.
The most valuable asset aside from the Stargate in the SGC is the self-destruct, capable of incinerating the entire mountain it is under as well as completely destroying the Stargate.
The entire facility can be locked for quarantine at any time, preventing any threats from escaping the facility.
The area above the gate room is a huge tunnel leading up to the top of the mountain, allowing the Stargate to be moved in and out. When the gate is going to overload, this could come in handy.
SGC has no shields, so no surviving attacks from above.
While enough energy can be mustered to keep a Stargate open for a full 38 minutes, there is nowhere near enough to dial Atlantis after the first time. Atlantis does not have the energy to help sustain the connection, and unless we find a ZPM (big yellow crystal thingy that has lots of power) we cannot reach them by Stargate.
The Wraith only somewhat know of Earth's location, and because the Daedalus has been destroyed and the Apollo is presumedly still out of action, we are relatively undefended.
Since the last episode of Stargate Atlantis, Atlantis is currently on Earth near the Golden Gate Bridge in California.
The SGC may now no longer be the center of the action. yay for our snowflake-shaped city!

and the fact that if you pump enough power into a wormhole or it is close enough to a Black hole, it can stay open indefinitely.

Re: The SGC - Background
well, it has organization behind it. i'm just trying to decide how to set up gameplay. should it be one main gameplay thread, or separate threads for each team's missions?

Re: The SGC - Background
..thats a good question.
Id say separate, as if both were on a mission at the same time and both posted into the same area, it would be very hard to make out which team is which.

Re: The SGC - Background
im not in this, but i say separate threads, i mean, in the DW RPG, it gets confusing trying to read back a ton of pages that are worthless to your character, like i had to do when i was johnson.

Re: The SGC - Background
ok, so each team gets a thread, very good. if they're on the same mission, than it'll e one thread, otherwise separate ones. i think we'll start off with a training thread, so everyone gets used to the style of this RP

I don't have a team yet, but can't wait to be assigned one. Got to say, i've never really RP'ed before, but looking forward to it.
And good spelling is an essential yeah? cos it would really tick me off if there was loads of short hand spelling! lolz

ok, i know of no moonbase. the last thing i saw was the episode before unending, and we'll leave any atlantis implications out of this if that's where the moon base comes from

Re: The SGC - Background
well i've seen em all and i don't remember a moon base. We gotta stay true to stargate, not start making up moon bases, and also, why would you have an f302 base on the moon?! why?! it's easier for them to have an f302 base on EARTH.

Agreed. I was just saying if there was an F302 base, it would be on earth, and NOT the moon.

Re: The SGC - Background
you are probaly right i might of got it wroung but when carter spoke to o neal at the end of ark of truth im shoure she mesend it if it dident then im sorry
but i will give you the benfits of a moon bace for example most ship that attack earth first stop at the moon for enmy forces
eg the wrath if you had asgard wepons on the moon then the enamy cannot use it to hide
no2 you can use it as a sorta space station ship can be bilt their without people wordring why eg be report went snoping round where f303 (promethous i dont no if it spelt right) espsaly if most the bace is bilt wit tocra cristels and u can but it on the dark side of the moon
no3 thay can test wepoens in the safty that one that the population of earth cannot be afected also is a spesman gets out where it gunna go to the vacume of space if a ontagent gets out there is i much easy qorenteen thay just one stop ships from docking ore un docking the bace and there is no risk to eny one.
sorry if the splling ant good and sorry if i woffled

Re: The SGC - Background
Well, imagine the power it would take to create a 'moonbase'. If they can power a moonbase with multiple asgard beams then why don't they just do what they did against the Ori? when the Ori came they totally showed them! XD
