does it look cool?
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
Oh my god! That's pretty amazing... I'd never have the patience to do something like that..... BTW, I think I'll move this into the Graphics section... I think it's more appropriate...
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
Agreed! Amazing work, me naam! I'd try making 3d graphics myself, but my windows emulator doesn't support my graphics card. And I'm not even sure if there are any 3d graphics programs for Linux Anyways, keep up the good work!

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
That looks great me naam!
I've tampered with Google Sketchup, but it all always ends in frustration.
I like hand drawing my 3d models better.
@ Jerome
You can run it using WINE
sudo apt-get install wine
Then download sketchup.
cd .wine/c_drive/blah blah
wine my_google_sketchup_program.exe
It works under ubuntu 7.10 and 8.x.
It's a bit glitchy though.

Yeah, if we recode the ENTIRE game in C++ or something.Karlo wrote:It rocks ma naam!!!!!

Flash doesn't like 3d graphics that much yet.
Mabe in the future......
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
@MNIM: Well, I've got a lot of free time as well, but I've got a huge lot of projects (I believe I've made a list before, but now I've excluded some stuff from that list...)...
@Darkjedi: I don't know about the existence of something called Swift3d, right? I had it once, but it was kind of crappy...

Well, it's cool
But I can't wait to see it finished!

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
Me neither!!! And how did you do the hull? Did you use the path extrusion tool?
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
I've finished the warp nacelles, with the horizontal wings.
I think it will take half a week to finish the basic meshing, and then maybe two weeks for detailing (windows, decks, guns etc.) and texturing/coloring.
currently the ship is a 1960m long, or 1.217 Mi, or 2143 yards. that's LONG. maybe I'll enlarge it further, it's an cityship / colonization ship. as size comparison: a Galaxy class will easily park between the nacelles.
@ raffitz: which hull? saucer or secondary? and no, I didn't use path extrusion. I simply used the push/pull tool and hand drawn diagonal lines.
I am making the model from a 2D drawing on paper. for scale: one of those squares is 40X40 m in real size, and 5mm in my drawing.
Hey! I have finally found the cast shadows button!

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
I was talking about the primary hull... It's round, and it would be pretty difficult to do without a certain tool... I might make a video to exemplify...
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
oh, that? maybe that was the most simple.
step one: make a slice-through schema.
two. at every edge, make a circle. make sure all circles have the same number of segments.
three. connect the circles like spokes of a wheel.
OR...
step one: draw the biggest circle.
two: pull out that circle. make sure the program still recognizes the circle as a whole, very important
three: adjust the diameter of one of the circles of the cilender, and voila, topped of cone
four: repeat as necessary.

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
There's a much easier way to do that... As I said, I'll make a video to explain later...
Re: My Google Sketchup Model
easier? maybe. less time consuming? higly probable.

Stop being an bum hole.
You're doing exactly what I told you not to do.
You're taking your personal issues out on others.
Just because I helped expose your sorry bum to everyone, that doesn't mean that you need to try to act like more of a sorry bum.

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
I lied.
I've made colors for the warp drives, and I added 2 shuttle-bays already.
here you can see the overall look of the warp units and the shuttlebays
here you see the horizontal wings, and auxiliary whcih have been incorporated into it.
here you see the main warp nacelles and some auxiliary. note that the fronts of the main warp nacelles are see-through yellow. early shots show that the original enterprise NCC-1701 has more yellowish nacelle fronts, as do the newest shots from ST 11. might still going to change that though
closer shot of an auxiliary nacelle. note the line of red windows in the wing. I'm planning to do all windows of rooms that are not meant for living red, like the red light in submarines.
two shuttlebay doors, with above them a line of blue windows from the shuttlebay overview deck. may still change the color.
(oops. I only now realize i had the red patches still selected, hence the blue dots. they're not supposed to be there.)
(Geez... that uploading took half of my life!!! )

[necro]
uergh, freaking windows. gave up on 'em really.
anyway...
jay! new image!
have been working at the front and lower section...
i'm not really satisfied with that large chunk of red there.
hmmm...
i don't like it, i can't do enough with google sketchup.
so i'll be upgrading to pro, so i can export the model in OBJ format, which i can open with my recently acquired program Blender.

It looks really good. The small blue/red nodules on each side look a bit like the training wheels on a bike, but you can see how much effort you've put into it.

Re: My Google Sketchup Model
Well thank you. what you see is the result of quite some boresome hours.
yeah, that's also basically what they are, extra warp nacelles to stabilize warp flight. I try to let them be as aggressive and wingy as possible, like the wings from an ApacheShemuel wrote:The small blue/red nodules on each side look a bit like the training wheels on a bike
