Facebook Connect/Like

Okey Dokeys, before Shemuel goes and says he doesn't like it, give this a try. I've set it up that you can now connect your Facebook account to the FT:TUF account. To do this, you will have to be logged into your Facebook account and then log out of the forum. When you go to log in to the forum, use the Facebook connect login instead. That way, if you go to your profile, you can do things like invite Facebook friends to join the forum and things like that.

Also, on the left here is the widgets panel. Now I've always avoided having widgets implemented on the forum since it began, but unfortunately, the only way this bit works is by implementing the code into a widget. As you can see, you can like any page/thread on here. Now I'm also working on doing it such that you can type something and post it to your Wall in Facebook when you like a page, otherwise it just goes into your likes or whatever.

You can also use the share function (which has been there forever) in threads by going to the top of the thread, clicking share and choosing which social networking site you wanna share it to. The Facebook widget makes things simpler and faster instead of using the share function, but that's naturally only for sharing to Facebook.

A problem I just encountered...

I can't log on using my facebook.. might just be me or my college's internet, but it opens up a white pop up window that doesn't show anything (the permissions window already opened and I've already allowed it)

It takes up almost the entire page, it can't get that much bigger

Did the pop-up completely load? Cause I got a pop-up, but it loaded fast

It loaded, but was completely white and did nothing.

Wait, I just tried it again. When you hit the Facebook login, a white pop-up appears and then disappears and redirects you back to the forum, except logged in. That's all that's supposed to happen

the white box for me just stays up there and doesn't do much of anything..

But do you log into the forum?

Nope.. I refresh the page after the box has done loaded and nothing happens.. still logged out.

Hm, that is weird, don't think it's a firewall issue or something do you? When you go to your profile, is there a tab called Facebook Invite or something like that?

Yeah.. I clicked the little login button but nothing happened.. I'll try a bit later from my laptop to see if anything changes..

Hmm, well, I don't think it's a problem here on the tech/admin end

and I don't have administrative priveleges to doing anything on my end while using my school computers...even though I work here...

Yeah.. this is the account I had to create when I tried to log in using the FB button... I'll try to see what I can do to see if I can connect it to the Kiyo account.. but I don't know what is going to happen..

I haven't had as many problems with XP as I am having with 7

I gave up with Windows eons ago. It's just unfortunate it dominates most of the market cause once in a while I have to use it, but oh well.

I would use a different one but I have yet to find one I like..

Yes it is. 800X600 is generally the smallest (though there are smaller res's) and 1024X768 is next. What's standard for a fullscreen monitor is 1280X1024

I'm not having any success on Ubuntu (clicking 'log on with Facebook' button, but nothing happening). Innovative, though.

@Shem, there's some form of Java you need installed, I forget what it's called but I like it up shortly, maybe that's the problem

I dont like it because im selfish! I don't want a whole bunch of people invading this sanctuary. I like people, just not a whole bunch. This makes it too easy for lots of people to join.

I'm not entirely sure how. It just means if you have friends you think would like FT:TUF, than you can invite them via Facebook. And contrary to what you want, I want higher activity numbers cause you guys quite frankly don't seem to be able to pull the activity weight and that can make things get quite boring here. I'm not saying this to be rude or offensive.

I totaly understand. 100%. Its just the way i feel. And if a whole bunch of people do come, so what. its not like it would end my activity here. I would live.
