Power of a Human Empty Power of a Human

Post by Darkwing 2010-06-22, 21:58

Sorry about the cheesy title, but I was wondering, (aside from toa) what do you guys think of people and their ability to change? Can people truly change, or are they always the same just with more...layers added, more adaptation, but the core the same? And yes, Toa, you can reply, but I'd be extremely surprised if anything other than a super enthusiastic "yes, humans CAN change, we WILL change" Smile

Yes, humans CAN change, but I don't think that many of them will.

But, there's still that small amount. A glimmer of hope anyways.

Still, if God doesn't step in soon, they won't survive.

Human nature is normally too strong... But some can overcome the negative aspects of human nature, i guess.

but then what defines our identity? If we can change our core being, then we don't have the same identity. I see it more like an onion. The core is the same, but with time we just add more layers, so eventually there's enough layers to cover the core, so it can appear that we change, but once in a while, a crack opens and our true heart is still there. I dunno, just speculating.

Humans CAN change. But I think theyre too afraid to overcome the fear of changing, actually, which prevents them from doing so.

so what about identity then? If you can change at you absolute core and I mean the absolute core, everything from your little quirks to particular behaviour patterns, if you change that much and if that is possible, then doesn't that not make us..us? If I could do that, I would no longer be Chris Cameron. My name would be the same maybe, but I wouldn't be the same person that my mother would haven given birth too.

oh and so you're not all being confused, I think we can change aspects of ourselves, but I don't think we can change the actual core of who we are

My bad on the caps.

The way I see it, I agree, nobody can truly change who they are inside. Aspects of their personality, sure, but never the entire core being, and never the identity. If it is possible to change the core being, however (and Im not saying it is), then they probably wouldnt be the same person inside. It would be down to the one changing to change back, and Im not even sure if its possible to change back. At least...not entirely.

indeed, or did the trauma just reveal a part of their core that was otherwise hidden ie, everyone's a murderer if you know what I'm saying. I dunno, just speculating
