The Skin Thread Empty The Skin Thread

Post by Darkwing 2011-05-11, 12:14

Ok, so I meant to do this way earlier, but as per mostly usual, this thread is for discussing the new theme being worked on.

So before you all start with stupid comments, due note:

The skin is NOT finished and not even close to it at this point.

I'm aiming for a Sci-fi meets hot rod sorta look with colour. Last theme was good, just very dull and uninteresting.

Invision is hard and has lots of stuff to change, lots more than PHBB3.

I don't have a lot of time, so this is probably gonna take weeks, so suck it up you'll live.

On the note of skin, I think we need an actual graphical logo besides just the text. An emblem or symbol or something

I have lots of piercings on my skin...

And this theme doesn't kill my eyes at least, incomplete though it may be. How hard is it to work with the Invision stuff?

Well, there's some similarities to PHBB3, however, a lot goes under different names/classes. But on that note, almost everything is editable and there's much more sophisticated techniques you can use.

For instance, this here is the code that I've written/edited:

Code:
body{
      background-image: none;
      background-attachment: fixed;
}
#ipbwrapper {
        background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/wrap210.png');
        background-repeat: repeat-y;
    margin: 0px auto;
    text-align: left;
    width: 965px;
    padding: 0px;
    }
div.maintitle {
    vertical-align: middle;
        horizontal-align: middle;
        text-align: center;
    padding: 12px 8px 0px 0px;
    background-image: url("http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/catego10.jpg");
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
        height: 30px;
}
div.maintitle .expand,div.maintitle .contract {
    float: right;
    width: 10px;
    height: 10px;
    background: url('http://2img.net/i/fa/invision/exp_minus.gif') no-repeat 50% 50%;
    cursor: pointer;
        text-align: center;
    }
div.maintitle .expand a,div.maintitle .contract a {
    text-decoration: none;
        text-align: center;
    }
.maintitle.floated div.toggle, .maintitle.floated h2, .maintitle.floated h3 {
    float: none;
    text-align: center;
}
table.ipbtable th {
    padding: 5px;
    text-align: center;
    background-image: url("http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/forumb14.jpg");
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
        height: 30px;
    }
table.ipbtable th {
    background-color: #aaaaaa;
    border-right: 1px dotted #b0bbcd;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #9aa4b1;
    }
table.ipbtable tfoot td{
background-color: transparent;
background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/bottom10.jpg');
padding: 0px;
height: 30px!important;
border: none;}

.row1, .row2{
background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/forumb16.jpg');
background-color: #000000;
background-position: bottom;
background-repeat: repeat-x;
}
.post-container {
    margin-left: 18em;
        background-color: #000000;
    }
.postprofile{
background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/postpr10.jpg');
}
.module .maintitle{
background-color: none;
background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/module10.jpg');
background-repeat: repeat-x;
height: 45px
color: #000000;
height: 45px;
padding-top: 2px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
}
div.borderwrap,.borderwrapm {
    border: none;
    background-color: #000000;
    }
.post-header{
background-color: transparent;
background-image: url(' http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/posthe11.jpg');
border-style: solid;
border-width: 1px;
border-color:  #181818 #191919 #161616 #171717;
color: #000000;
}
.post-footer{
background-color: transparent !important;
background-image: url('http://i22.servimg.com/u/f22/11/72/27/48/postfo12.jpg');
border-style: solid;
border-width: 1px;
border-color:  #181818 #191919 #161616 #3f4d60;}

Now it's interesting to note that the other skins with PHBB3, when they were complete, took less coding than what I posted there and I'm not really that far into this skin

Yeah, I agree. I've been inclined to the black and white one from the get-go, but then I tinkered with the lightning and decided to put it up as an option just in case.

Oh, I should mention I'm also gonna play around with this complicated method I found for allowing users to change the skin themselves. That's partly why this one has so much blue, so that way I can make yellow, red, green versions or something and see about making them options so if you don't like blue, you can choose red or something like that
